On our way East to Bryce Canyon, our car was slammed in the driver's side by a huge doe. The deer connected about front left wheel and her backside slammed the driver's door. Fortunately we were about a mile west of Bicknell so were doing about 45 and my wife was driving. She drives with both hands on the wheel so never lost control.

We found an open garage and they bent materials away from wheel enough to drive the car but left headlight gone so we couldn't drive at night and had to spend the night in Bicknell.

We were able to get a room at Sunglow. This is a cute, old style motel with rooms in a row in a courtyard. Our room was sparse and diminutive but very clean and comfy.

After the accident and a couple hours with garage and highway patrol, then Thrifty Rental Cars and auto insurance, we were hungry. The restaurant looked very inviting so headed there.

First things you notice are the pie display cases and the unusual pies. Pinto Bean? Pickle? Oatmeal? Hmmm. Of course they had plenty of "regular" pies but those were what they were famous for.

Looking over the menu, my wife selected the Chicken Cordon Bleu and a salad. Several items appealed to me and I chose my fav - Country Fried Steak and French Onion soup.

My French Onion soup came quickly and was some of the best I've ever eaten. My wife's salad also came but seeing my soup, she switched her salad for the same.

My wife said her Chicken Cordon Bleu was delicious. Unfortunately for me, my Country Fried Steak was tough and full of gristle. The worst I've ever eaten.

Of course my wife had to try a slice of pie. She shied away from the unusual ones and chose Cherry pie with vanilla ice cream. It was really delicious.I

Great little place for the price.

Very clean. The shower was hot and great water pressure. Definitely better than a campground if you're looking to rough it abs have a shower.

The a/c in the room worked, but was a little loud.

We, (my wife, a friend and myself), could not find an open spot for tent camping so looked for a reasonably priced motel room and did we luck out!!

Our room had recently been renovated just like new. It was exceptionally clean, quiet, and comfortable, a wonderful break after weeks of camping. The bed was superb and the new climate control was excellent, easily and quickly got to the perfect temp.

We arrived later in the evening very tired and very much appreciated that the owners were extremely welcoming, responsive and friendly.

      Thank you Sunglow.

At $19 per pie with 20% automatic gratuity, there are much better choices. The pies were frozen and honestly didn't taste any better than a frozen pie from the grocery store. This place was much, much better in past years before the megalomania kicked in.

Stayed here one night in March 2021

Tip: Call ahead to ask about check-in / checkout - if you arrive late in the evening or leave early there are special instructions

      Pros:
      Very quiet
      Refrigerator and microwave
Portable fan/AC on wheels in window
Built in heater, I didn't use it
      Shower good pressure and hot
Overall good deal for the price
Very close and convenient to Capitol Reef National Park
Beautiful scenic drive to the park.

      Cons:
Light fixtures were so bright - no dimmer option (I usually unscrew a few bulbs when this happens)
Bed pretty saggy but I still slept well
Sink is in a separate room from the toilet and shower
Carpet could have been a little cleaner

      Unknowns:
Restaurant attached to motel which sounded great but I didn't have time to try it
Weird shelf above TV. What is it for? I may never know

For the price, this place was okay. The restaurant had good food. The people that ran the motel and restaurant were very nice. The bed was not comfortable at all. Very saggy. We ran the air conditioner and it was dirty and loud. My wife woke up with a stuffed up nose. We put towels down in front of the door so the bugs wouldn't crawl in. The painters made several splashes around the bathroom with paint that was never cleaned up so there was dry paint on our bathroom stool and other places in the bathroom. There was no hair dryer so come with your own. If you want a basic hotel with no fluff, the $50 you spend here is worth it. It is very close to Capitol Reef National Park. The restaurant saved this motel.

Standard cafe food. Shared ribeye steak with husband and there was plenty of food. Good fries. Side veggies was canned corn. They gave you a small piece of "fry bread" which they called a scone but it was pretty good.
While it is nothing to write home about it is the only place opened for dinner in Bicknelll and they say they are open year round! A plus if you are going to try to experience Capitol Reef in off season.

The room was very clean and the service was great. Everyone is really nice and attentive. Also, they allowed our dogs to stay. Food was good. They have awesome pies.
