Pepitas Mexican Restaurant

In regard to some recent bad reviews, I can provide a bit of background.

About a month ago, I arrived and parked next to a refrigeration repair truck. I noticed a Closed sign in the door and as I was contemplating what to do next, the technician came over and explained that Pepitas refrigerator had died and that they would be closed for a while and that I should call before coming. A week later my wife and I came for dinner and found they were using a very limited paper menu which did not have my usual entree. The food was in fact not up to par at the one week point. My guess is that they had to discard all of the contents of the refrigerator and were not yet back to normal.

A few days ago, we went back and things seem to be fine. The salsa was still different and very hot but my normal entree, a chicken mole burrito, tasted fine. I didn't see the menu because they know our normal order.

Servers are nice and energetic, but some dont speak much english.
Decor is very nice and colorful; makes you feel like you're in the jungle. The lighting is dark with nice lit up decorations such as christmas lights and lit up snowflakes (in february). Tables and chair have nice designs, and the booths are comfortable.
Prices are reasonable: $5.75 for kids meals, $15-19 for adult meals.
Food was served in a decent amount of time. Menu has a decent amount of options.
I ordered mole poblano which was described as chocolate chicken. It was not sweet, but maybe that was how it was supposed to be.
Complimentary spicy salsa and a big bowl of tortilla chips are given at the beginning of the meal. No complimentary mints or dessert.
Meal portions are large.
French fries taste saltless.
Music is loud spanish radio.
Takeout boxes are small.

I used to love this restaurant.
I went in today and what a dump it has turned into.
We walked out.
If you're an old customer and have been going here for a long time, prepare yourself you will walk out yourself .

I had dinner with a friend of mine last night. We got Steak Tacos and Fajitas. The table wasn't properly cleaned. The cutlery wasn't either. The knife inside the Napkin was dirty and I asked for a different one. I asked for Salsa Verde and they didn't have it.
Today( i.e. The next morning) both me and my friend got really bad diarrheas and that was the only thing we ate in common. This is bad. My friend is Mexican and neither of us had ever gotten sick from Mexican food like this.

My husband and I used to love this place. Went yesterday with our kids and our experience was awful. Our server's interactions with us were so weird & uncomfortable I just don't know what to make of it. TBH, I couldn't tell if he was just an a****** or possibly on drugs. Besides our weird/uncomfortable interaction ordering... every time our server would walk by (very few times) he deliberately would not look at us. He forgot our silverware & tortillas. Flagged a worker about silverware. My husband finally had to go find the server about his tortillas, to which our servers came back happily, telling us he stole them from another order as if to solve everything- there were only three. Had to flag down another gal to pay. She happens to run the place - this restaurant's only saving grace- She is wonderful. However, food was ok, service was trash. We will not be back.

Food is good, service is why I won't ever come back.
I keep giving this place chances and every time I'm frustrated that I did. They have good food but absolutely need a better server. The older male server they have had for years is terrible at it. Always not engaging or seemed interested in being at the table. We ordered drinks and some apps and he NEVER came back. We had to flag yes flag a woman down because we waited very patiently for awhile even making eye contact with the guy and he would head in the other direction every time. Do not waste your time or money on this place unless it is to go.

I lived in El Paso, TX for four years and have been looking for an authentic and delicious Mexican food in portland for the past year.

So glad my search is finally over. This place is definitely the real deal. The food comes in such great portions and very affordable. The quality of the food was soooooo amazing. Everything was full of flavor and well made. Service was really quick too! Super cute place that's very welcoming.

We got the carne asada and man.... It made me carne aHAPPy for the rest of the week. My new favorite restaurant in Beaverton

We had great service and an excellent arroz con pollo. The owner is super friendly and welcoming.

Had very poor service there today. Got up and walked out before even ordering dinner because the guy was so rude. When we walked in we asked to sit in the bar the guy snapped that it was closed. Then the same guy brought us brown unappealing (not the usual) guacamole and got an attitude when we asked about it. This was one of my favorite places before now. Won't be going back.

Went there yesterday ( feb 21) 1:15 pm. Only two people in the dining room and music very loud. Place looked and smelled dirty. Wouldn't use my knife- filthy. The salsa for the chips ; very spicy, we were told no other choice.wife order combo fajitas-- no shrimp - but pretty good. Just three 6 inch tortillas. Asked for more and were charged for three more. I had a burrito- ok -nothing special. Place got a delivery half way through our meal .propped the front door - two rows down from our booth-- burrito. That place acted like they could care if we ever came back. We will learn from this and never never go back
