These people have some passion for service and good food.

Been a few times and i will reiterate what others have said. Margaritas are good. Like the Crazy quesadilla- the tortilla its made with is bigger than the plate. Had the Baja shrimp twice and they were good. One time they could have used another minute on the grill to crisp up the bacon but they are worth getting. The employees/owner/managers seem extremely interested in you having a good experience and will fall all over themselves if something isn't exactly right. That is extremely refreshing in the restaurnt business and if they stay that way the place will be a huge success. One criticism- last time I ordered the Baja shrimp it came with some melted margarine type cr+@ instead of drawn butter. I asked and they brought me some other oil-based butter flavored drivel to dip the shrimp in. I swear the previous visit they had butter. Moral of story- buy some real butter and melt it, like the menu says. Also, lose the frozen carrot, broccoli and cauliflower side dish. It doesn't cost a dime more to buy fresh and steam or grill it for a couple of minutes. Otherwise this place is great and deserves your patronage. Their attitude is super-great and just what's missing from most places. Come see what people who care can do in a restaurant for a change.

      First to Review

I went into Crazy Cactus with some reservations. First, the name did not appeal to me. Second, I could find no online reviews of it. Oh well, I guess as a food reviewer it is my responsibility to bear the burden. After eating there let me just say: you are all welcome.

The menu is huge, and contains a mix of more "authentic" items, some tex-mex, and some weird stuff (like wings). The server enthusiastically recommended the jalapeno poppers, saying that they do them "really special". Unfortunately, that was not my experience. They tasted like something off the back of a frozen food delivery truck, dripping with grease. Not good.

Let me interject something good: my server was all over it in terms of keeping my drink refilled. That being said, the food itself was less than stellar. The chips were meh, the salsa kind of bland, and the rice and beans were just plain ordinary.

The lunch special was reasonably priced, two items for $6.99 or three for $7.99 (and you got rice and beans included on either). I got the three items (have to do a proper test) and I do have to say that the ground beef burrito was tasty. The meat was well seasoned, and there was some dark sauce on the burrito that had a good flavor. The chile relleno, however, was average, and the chicken taco was a greasy mess (although the flavor was decent).

I just cannot recommend Crazy Cactus to anybody. The owner shook my hand, and seemed nice, and the atmosphere is good, but the food was disappointing and the flavors just didn't stand out. I will also mention that the prices on the menu were high other than the lunch menu. Considering the quality of the food I received, I probably will not be trying out any of the more "full featured" fare.

One final thing that was weird and NOT how you should treat your customers: i took a sip of my beverage and put my glass on the table and i was sharply reprimanded by a lady who gave me yet another coaster "Glasses go on the coaster!" she said. Yes ma'am, and this customer doesn't come back either

The food was tasty and at a great price. But this is far from authentic Mexican food. I wouldn't even call it Tex-Mex. My taco salad wasn't anything special.
The portions are good and we ended up with food to take home. There are lots of menu options for all the picky eaters on your list.

I agree with Erica, the space is nicely done. It's open and welcoming and the staff is attentive and friendly.
I just went in expecting a bit more out of the food.

Once again a super nice staff and we had a nice time all the way around. The staff has been a 5 every time and the food has been a solid 3. We get the Crazy dip ($3.99) and this time also got the chicken tortilla soup which was loaded with chicken and flavor for a paltry $3.99. I would be willing to try more things on the menu in the future when stuck in the Dirty Dova.

I almost let the negative reviews turn me away from this spot and I'm so glad I tried it out for myself. I might have missed out on some pretty damn good food. Is it the best Mexican in Memphis? Not hardly, but that doesn't keep it from being delicious. I have come to the conclusion that you have a different experience as a vegetarian than you would if you eat meat. This place totally passes the veg test.

First, hats off to whoever decorated this space. It's ultimately refreshing to walk into a Mexican restaurant that doesn't have sombreros and pottery in every corner. It's a cozy space and I love the light fixtures. The menu is rather large, just like every Tex-Mex spot, but here they actually have a section entitled "vegetarian." Sweet deal. Hunting and pecking trying to find something that still sounds good sans meat is never fun- especially when you didn't give up meat for some moral obligation but more as an accidental side effect to something else. In other words, meat still sounds fan-effing-tastic to this gal on most occasions.

My husband ordered the vegetarian burrito which was stuffed to the gills with perfectly cooked veggies including grilled cactus. It was topped with cheese, sour cream and slices of avocado and was ginormous. I was so jealous of that burrito. Delicious doesn't even cover it. I opted for the fish tacos, which were the best I've had yet in Memphis. Lightly breaded in cornmeal with seasoning, the fish was outstanding. It was wrapped in the flour tortillas and then individually wrapped in foil to keep each one piping hot while I ate the others. So smart. The rest of the toppings were served in side dishes- pico, fresh shredded cabbage and an orange sauce that was delightful. Not only was it fun to make my own tacos, but it made sense. All the ingredients stayed hot or cold, crisp or juicy- whatever the original intention was supposed to be. The breading on the fish was perfect with all the toppings. So many times fish tacos lose all credibility because they become a mushy, mealy mess.

Our waiter was fast, attentive and very friendly as were the rest of the staff and the bathrooms were clean. I don't have any negatives on this one. Perhaps the kinks have been worked out, perhaps I would have had a different experience if I ordered meat. Not sure, but either way we will definitely be back to try the other vegetarian options- chimichanga, tacos, quesadillas and even spinach enchiladas. Yum!

Great location. Good service. Okay food.

I would really love to give the Crazy Cactus more than 3 stars. Maybe In the future I will have reason to update this review with a higher rating.

The Crazy Cactus is a relatively new restaurant located in a strip center on Germantown Road near I-240. The dining room is large and open. They have a bar area (full bar), booths and tables with plenty of room to accommodate larger groups. We visited for a late lunch with friends. I shared the chicken and beef fajitas with one other person. We decided to get the lager order intended for two people and we ended up with more food than we could eat. I thought the chicken was a little dry but the beef was good. There were plenty of peppers and unions on the the skillet. Too many Mexican restaurants skimp out on the peppers and unions but that wasn't the case at the Crazy Cactus. I ordered extra sour cream and guacamole because the regular setup just wasn't enough for me. The guacamole pretty good. It tasted fresh and it had large chunks of Alvarado. I thought it needed a little more salt.

The site of this restaurant has been about four other (failed) restaurants since I've been in the area. I think Crazy Cactus has the staying power for this location. Yes, the Memphis area is overrun with Tex-Mex restaurants, but I happen to like this one.

Guacamole was disappointing. It was obviously frozen. Chips and salsa were standard fare. I had a veggie quesadilla, and it was delicious. My issue with it was the cheese was all clumped in one place, rather than intermingling with all of the delicious vegetables. My husband had the beef chimichanga which he deemed 'passable.'

So, what we have here is your standard Tex-Mex restaurant. Nothing more, nothing less. For what it is, it is good. The prices are competitive, which is great. I'd pick this place over a lot of the options in the area.

Second visit - got the $5.99 all you can eat lunch. Ordered one hard beef taco, one cheese enchilada and a soft chicken taco - comes with beans and rice. This was too much food and I could not finish it. All You Can Eat - is a good deal but I could not take advantage of it lol. Everything was tasty and fresh. The salsa was a little thin but seemed freshly made. We will come back.

I liked this place. We did not try a whole lot of food just there for a snack and to watch football. The bar is nice with 2 large tvs so I would recommend it for a nice place to catch a game. The staff was excellent they checked on us the whole time and we were there all afternoon!

Crazy Cactus is not your typical mexican restaurant, they have a trendy atmosphere with hip music! The food is gourmet, I absolutely love their fajita quesadilla along with their drinks! They have two for one pitchers of margaritas on Thursdays. I like that Crazy Cactus rewards their customers. They have this awesome program called SPIN STREAK. When you go to eat there on the tables there is a game you can play to earn loyalty points and cool prizes! All you do is download the app Spin Streak and spin to win prizes and rack up loyalty points! I will be back real soon!
