I have been taking my Cavalier King Charles to Dave for over 2 years for grooming. I have never boarded him there. While I can see why some people would be taken off guard by Dave's odd personality, he knows what he is doing. I would say he is more of an animal person than a people person, if you know what I mean! We have tried several different cuts with my dog, from shaving in the summer to just an undercut in the winter and he always looks great. The thing that I really like is that Dave allows me to stay with my dog during the appointment and being there during the grooming process allows my dog to be calmer. Yes, Dave has been short with my dog if he is not cooperating, but my dog actually listens to him and therefor I have no problem with it. In the end, if my dog is cooperating, the appointment goes smoother and quicker. I have taken my dog to other groomers who have knicked him, cut his nails incorrectly, and in general made my him very scared/unhappy. Dave has always done a great job and my dog doesn't seem to mind it, which is a win win in my book.

I went here once to look at golden retriever puppies and went in to meet the owner, he rudely stayed on the phone for 20 minutes when I was patiently waiting. I then saw where the grooming station was and its a grimy tiny table. Then I went up to see the puppies at his home and I heard all the dogs outside barking. (Mind you it's only 15 degrees outside). He only allowed his own two dogs inside. The puppies we located in his basement on a hard wood floor, their pee/pooing area was in a gate next to them that looks to not have been cleaned for months. I saw him just add new papers on top of where the puppies went to the bathroom. The dogs are only caged when staying at the kennel and let out of the cage to go pee in his small backyard.

I don't think anyone should allow their pet to stay at Briarwood Kennel, he's a rude owner and doesn't care for your animals. He talked about disciplining dogs and "how he doesn't point at the animal and say 'no', but he would put up a fist, and if the dog still doesn't listen then he would throw the fist in the dogs face."

This place should be shut down and if you are a pet owner and allow him/her to stay at this kennel, you need to take better care of your animal..

BEWARE if you are considering this kennel for your pets. I would never, ever leave my dogs at this kennel. I went to visit the location when looking for a place to board my 2 dogs (having just moved to the area). The location is great, and it looks ok when you pull up. The kennel itself is a strange set up - chainlink pens that are side by side (not a good fit if your dog is even the slightest bit aggressive towards other dogs, as there is NO privacy at all from the other dogs). The pens are narrow and long (maybe 4'x 20'?) and pea gravel is on the ground. The kennels are fully exposed to the elements (there are drop down canvas-type sides that can be raised/lowered). The dogs are NOT allowed in the lawn, so they transition from pea gravel to hardscape (pavers on a patio) and the general play space is small for the amount of dogs there. There are a good amount of dogs that are kenneled there and also a large amount that attend for doggy-daycare, so I'm not sure if people are just less aware of what goes on?

What did this kennel in for me was not the owner's gruff interaction with the dogs (it is NEVER a good sign when a dog hears its name and drops its head and puts its tail between its legs, slinking away from the person calling him/her), nor the lackluster accommodations - it was when the owner, while filling the water bowl in a kennel with the hose, TURNED THE HOUSE ON THE BOXER IN THE NEXT KENNEL AND SPRAYED THE DOG WITH THE HOSE when I walked up and the dog barked at me. He actually punished the dog by spraying it from the hose (and it was a high power spray!). The dog ran to the far end of the kennel and cowered in a corner.

I WAS HORRIFIED. Having a Boxer myself, I could not IMAGINE if this happened to my sweet girl - she would be terrified to stay there! (NOTE: not that I think this is acceptable for any dog!). I could not help but think that if the owner was willing to do this in front of me, a potential customer, what in the world does he do/how does he treat the animals when people aren't around to see?

Long story short - if you need a kennel, do yourself a favor and avoid this location at all costs. There is nothing so desperate that it is worth leaving your pet here. There are other local options and your pets will be in better care in them. If I could give ZERO STARS for this business, I would!!! AVOID THIS KENNEL!

I had visited this kennel this past spring, 2016. My fiancé and I are getting married in Costa Rica and since all of our friends/family will be there with us, we wanted to start researching early on to find a good place to leave our 8 year old Great Pyrenees/Border Collie mix. Immediately upon walking into the kennel I was horrified. The conditions were unclean and downright disturbing. The dogs had no place to run, and were on gravel and concrete everywhere they were allowed to go. There were feces everywhere, it was clear that he had no cleaned in months. The owner was rude, and was yelling at the dogs putting his fist up at them if they made any sound at all. I felt so horribly, they would cower in the corner of their tiny kennels. I wanted to run out of there and chain him up, taking all the poor dogs with me. I pretended to get a phone cal and ran out of there. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PRECIOUS PET HERE.

I will add my story to many of the others here: several years ago while searching for a boarding facility for my Pekingese dog, I visited this place and was sickened by the way Mr. Ricardo treated the dogs that were in his care. When they barked, he shouted and lunged at them forcing them to cower in fear. When I asked him if he would treat my dog this way he laughed and said, "no the small dogs play together in a special area". I didn't believe him and left, wishing I could take all the dogs with me. I never returned to that place and was shocked but not surprised when I heard what has happened there. I'm glad they have closed it down. I hope it stays closed and that he is made to take responsibility for the suffering and death of the dog that was attacked.

DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE!! My interaction with this kennel was years ago but I still feel the need to post this review after reading the others here. It seems that nothing has changed and I regret not writing sooner. I needed urgent daycare for my yellow lab/golden retriever mix, Molly. I called Briarwood and spoke to the owner who said that he had room. When I got there, I was shocked by the gruff nature in which he spoke with me but stupidly ignored it b/c of my desperation. We walked over to where the dogs were kept (chain link cages on gravel) and he put my dog in the cage. Incredibly, he then tells me that he will spray my dog with water if she gets out of hand and that this is how he keeps the dogs in line. I couldn't believe it. I had to go to work but I was so upset that when I got to work, I told my boss that I had to leave, and went back to pick up my dog. When I got to the parking lot, the owner saw me and said "I knew you'd be back". Unacceptable treatment of animals and this guy should be SHUT DOWN!!!

0 stars - should be shut down.

I did not even get to the point where I allowed my dog to stay at this facility. Due to a last minute over-booking with my dog's current facility, Briarwood offered us the opportunity to board for a night last minute. Great! Now I know why there was availability...
We arrived and at first I was not sure where to go so for obvious reasons, we headed up the hill towards the kennels away from busy 53. I began to hear this loud whistling and turned around to a man whistling at me and frantically waving his arms and shaking his head for me to walk back towards him. I wasn't sure if he was whistling at me or the dogs.
He walked into his little shed and I assumed to follow where he sat at his computer and without looking in our direction started to demand info for myself and the dog. After having to explain to him the he was wrong about my dogs assumed breed and that he was reading my vets records incorrectly (but of course, this was my fault), he then told me to have my dog walk.
      Ok.
So he walked and apparently, even though his nails were recently trimmed they were too long. So without asking, permission or any hesitation, he grabs my dog by the collar and has him jump up onto a rickety, rusty table, attach him to the table with about 4 tethers, grab a vacuum and nail drill and attempts to cut his nails.
      I said no thank you.
He then grabbed a comb from god only knows where and when this comb has been and proceeded to try and comb my dog who was now panicking and shedding like crazy (which he does... he sheds, especially when being attacked by a crazy person). He asked me if this hair was all over my house? "Don't you have fur all over your house?!?!?! You need to comb him!"
      He is brushed every day.

Me: Get my dog off the table, we are leaving.

Briarwood guy: But I've been doing this 50 years!

Me: Please let my dog off the table - we are leaving.

Briarwood guy: But you haven't even seen the facility!

Me: Give me my dog NOW

      5 minutes to untie dog.

If you love your pet, don't ever ever ever ever ever take them there.

I stopped in to look at the advertised goldendoodle puppies (asking $1500!!) and was horrified at the owner's gruff treatment of a dog who'd been dropped off earlier that morning. The owner didn't even know its name. The poor thing was clearly shocked at being there, & when the dog wouldn't go into the cage as directed, the owner yanked it up by its collar and tossed/dragged it in! There were a couple dozen dogs in the cages, and a preferred few - the owner's own dogs and a couple of others, who get to wander around more freely. This isn't doggy daycare - it's doggy jail!! Stay away!!

I've been kenneling my daughter's dog (Buster, a toy poodle) with Dave at Briarwood for over ten years. I trust Dave more than I trust the vet! Dave knows his dogs and treats them well. He grooms at a reasonable price and does a better cut than the high-priced doggie salons. He also cleans teeth at a small fraction of what the vet charges (and the vet always raves about how great Buster's teeth look). Buster is high-strung (like I said - a poodle!), so I have Dave kennel him in the house rather than out in the yard. It's $5 extra a night but worth it. Buster used to be nervous about going to the kennel but now he enjoys it. He and Dave are best buddies!

For boarding and grooming our Goldendoodle Dave surpasses all expectations. His attention to detail and calm assertive direction puts our one year-old pup at ease, and after an extended grooming session he is now cooler and obviously more comfortable. Thanks Dave.
