* UPDATE SINCE IVE GRADUATED OFFICIALLY FROM NEISD *
I'm 18 years old now and I wrote a review about bush when I was 14. While I still stand by my review, I didn't go into detail about what occurred because I was deep into trauma and mental turmoil due to the incidents involved on that campus.
Starting off in 6th grade, I was hazed endlessly by peers and even staff for being "too feminine". Instead of helping, the administration at this school disregarded my mental health altogether. If I did anything that was not in their standards, I was either punished or ignored for complaining about being bullied.
In 7th grade, I started to engage in self-harm and fell into a state of depression and anxiety that I was unaware of. I would come into school everyday with the mindset that I was going to be bullied and I wouldn't have any support if I decided to speak up. This was instilled because of the lack of care the administration had for students, typically POC or individuals with disabilities. I watched alot of my friends with learning disabilities get negatively criticized and even punished for "bad behavior".
Specifically, there was an incident where I was physically assaulted by multiple male students on campus, and when I went to report it, those students still roamed the halls and hazed others while I would get ISS for any altercation or incident where I was behaving inappropriately.
8th grade was manageable, because I understood the school didn't care for certain students and I unfortunately fell into that bias. I had one teacher in particular that would comfort me because she also understood the underlying motives the administration had against certain students, and tried her best to help those in need.
There was also 2 incidents on campus that involved a student bringing a firearm, and threatening the school. I personally saw alot of white students carry pocket knives and drugs on them, and were never considered suspicious or searched for their behavior and comments they would make.
The counselors at this school were helpful, however they were not confidential and revealed information to my parents that were unnecessary to announce. I understand counselors need to tell parents when they believe their child is a danger to themselves or others, however, the information told my parents was in fact not dangerous or threatening, but took a jab on their parenting styles and blamed their lack of care for the school's trauma-inducing incidents.
I've left out plenty of specific incidents that led to therapy, and while I don't think the environment is the same as it was 2015-2018, I still stand by a 1-star review that I don't think they deserve.
If your child is going to be attending a middle school soon, please consider online, private, or even a different local school for them, as they will not be enjoying their time at this school.Helpful 6Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 2Dec 27, 2018Previous reviewThis school is just plain terrible. The staff here are horrible to their students and if they don't treat you harshly they are way too relaxed and carefree. Most of the reviews on here are either by kids that have gone to bush for a short period of time, or parents that don't check up all the way with their kids. I have attended bush all three years and my last day is soon. DO NOT ever let your child attend this school. They don't teach anything, just give out work. They always motivate an "anti-bullying" symbol throughout the school, yet it doesn't work. I have reported several things to admins that work here, and they don't do anything AT ALL. I have attempted suicide 3 times because of this school and they didn't do anything but tell me not to do it again. I have been beat up, threatened to death and have been called racial slurs. This is school is very discriminative, they don't do anything in terms of consequences to white students but to black or Mexican students they are always on the lookout. I once got suspended for something that involved two white students, and nothing was done to them, I was barely involved and got heavily harsh consequences. If you're students behaves badly they will put them in a prison of a room called the "BMC" room. You are not allowed to talk, turn around or move your head, you can't even have bad posture or they yell at you, and there is 0 freedom. This school is racist and downright terrible, don't listen to these 5-Star lies. Don't let your kids attend here.
And to bush,
I hated your school and everyone including staff in it.
Thank you for making my teen years miserable. - Biggie C.San Antonio, TX02Sep 15, 2023
The teachers are amazing and sweet helpful and kind. Just to let you know though the holes on the main floor in the sixth grade stairs can get crowded during the passing periods. So make sure to get there before everyone gets to the stairs or after everyone gets to the stairs.

I graduated from NEISD and had two children go through NEISD until 6th grade, after which I pulled them both due to their experiences at Bush M.S. If you care at all about your child's mental health, do not send them to this school. Even one of my teacher friends told me that Bush is the WORST and would not recommend it. Students and teachers alike are very disrespectful and lots of bullying goes on here. While my kiddos were not direct targets of bullying, they witnessed a lot of it...much of it by teachers. Over time, this has a negative effect on your learning, how you see yourself as a person, and the world in general. My first kid started developing mental health issues and missed a LOT of school, causing severe stress and depression. Second kiddo would come home telling horror stories of things teachers would say to the class. There were a few good teachers in the lot, but overall, it was not a great environment to be in. I pulled both from NEISD after 6th grade because this was not the behavior I wanted to be modeled for my children. They are now in a much better place. What a shame, Bush M.S. You lost two very bright straight-A, honors students. I had higher expectations for this school.

Excellent staff teachers keep parents apprised of work assignments due. School administration is great. They treat students with dignity and respect. I have had positive interactions with students, teachers and administrative staff. The principal cares about his school and strives to make it the number 1 school in the district. My son is very happy here. The one thing that a parent wants to hear from their child is Mom, I love my school!
I would definitely recommend Bush middle school for your kiddos.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Matt F.San Antonio, TX124194253Apr 7, 2017First to Review
Good school, enjoy what we have experienced here. Plenty of before and after school programs and from what I heard, the cafeteria food is pretty good too.
