St. Francis Xavier Church (also known as a Parish) is a long standing part of Lower Pacific Heights. It was built in 1939 to serve the Japanese living in the area. From that time, there were also Catechism classes for the students who were attending school across the street. Taught by the Nuns who cared for the Parish and the School.
Over time, more to reflect their own culture, the Japanese in the area began to return more to their Culture's faith of Buddhism. The Parish still stands and is now primarly the parish of the Deaf and hard of hearing. Offering Mass in American Sign Language.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
