Holy wow. Such delicious food and fantastic waitstaff. Our waitress (totally forget her name - sorry!) gave us out of towners an excellent list of suggestions for what to do while we were in town.
Fantastic vegan and vegetarian options. Walkable to other great restaurants and bars, great location. If I ever make it back to Louisville, this is at the top of my list!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 2, 2024
First time trying Ramsi's of the World restaurant that is located across the shopping center with Value Market in it.
My ribs were tender but I didn't like the bbq flavor. I fixed that by pouring some Sweet Baby Rays on it. My wife enjoyed her food.
The service and delivery cost was a big let down. My food was ready at the bar when I arrived and made to wait 20 minutes to get it was outrageous. Since I don't like dealing with parking on a very busy street originally I put it in as delivery but the that added $30 to do that.
So I picked it up and parked across the street in the shopping center. The inside is sort of funky to figure out, got lost trying to leave for example. I didn't get the magic so will skip it in the future.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 3165231Feb 25, 2024
Ramsi's Cafe of the World describes their cuisine as being global comfort food. I'm a fan of international foods, and was really struggling to find something that sounded appealing for dinner. As a Louisville native, Ramsi's has been a place I've patronized many times over the years. It feels like it's been ages since I've had Ramsi's; it caught my eye while browsing third-party delivery services. I reminisced about pre-COVID all-you-can-eat breakfast buffets and was sold on giving it a go.
I ordered Salmon Sonesta-Blackened Scottish salmon, sun-dried tomato cream sauce. With mashed potatoes and stir-fried vegetables.
The sun-dried tomato cream sauce was the star of this meal. The salmon was cooked to perfection. My only complaint was that the delivery service took too long. This was not the fault of Ramsi's and it wasn't enough to stop me from enjoying the meal cold. The sauce was well-packaged separately and is not in the corresponding photo.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 12, 2023
After hearing so many folks rave about the food here, and their versatility of making dishes gluten-free and dairy-free, I finally made it to this establishment.
I ordered the Shanghai Stir-Fry with the tamari sauce on the side (this sauce is the gluten-free option they offer for this dish). The dish is very flavorful, even without the sauce, a tad spicy. The vegetables were very fresh and the rice cooked perfectly. This dish could feed 2-3 people, a very large portion for the price.
My companion ordered the Moroccan Lamb Chops, a side of mashed potatoes, and a side of roasted potatoes. They enjoyed the lamb chops and mashed potatoes, but was not a fan of the roasted potatoes nor the quinoa that accompanied the lamb chops. All portions of food were very generous for the price point.
After viewing the website pics, and their menu prices, I must admit I was expecting the restaurant to be a bit more upscale. My companion and I both dressed up, and were far over dressed for this establishment. We easily could have worn jeans or sweats and blended in just fine.
The walkway to the door is uneven, not conducive for walking in heels. The exterior dining area has plastic around it, to close it in for the cooler weather I gather. The restaurant is older but seemed a bit under cared for, and could use some cleaning up.
We made a reservation and while waiting to be seated, two people, who were staff, nearly pushed us out of the way to get through, without saying excuse me. At first I thought they were patrons, until I later saw them refilling water glasses for patrons. Theses staff members were wearing jeans and t shirts. All of the staff wore whatever they chose, it was difficult to decipher staff from patron.
I suppose all the hype from others was just that, hype. I doubt I will return to this establishment.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 2 - Serena M.KY, KY02Apr 20, 2024
Rude food runner + 4 of us got sick after we left, do not eat the chicken.
Service was good at first the server and host were kind but the man who served out food was RUDE slammed down the plate in annoyance only because two people ordered the same dish and both claimed it when he asked who's it was. Very much an over reaction of anger and irritation. The manager offered dessert in replacement for the accident which was very kind and delicious so if you have a problem tell the manager, they will make it right!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 28, 2024Updated review
Return visit in less than 3 months, which says a lot considering the multitude of choices we have in this foodie town. Met several friends here on a Friday night for a pre-show dinner and had a splendid experience -- again! Parking was fairly easy around 5 PM and we all knew what to expect for Bardstown Road on a Friday night.
We were seated in the central dining room located directly inside the entrance and the place was packed by the time we left around 6:30 PM. I started with a glass of Pinot noir and a small order of spinach salad, which was baby spinach, strawberries, apples, and toasted almonds in a basil balsamic vinaigrette $7. (The portion was so large that it could have possibly been mistaken for a full order at other establishments.)
I ordered the calamari Terra Santa again during this visit because it was so memorable from the past experience. Deliciously tender and delicate batter!
My friends ordered wine and cocktails, the Punjabi samosas, tuna tartare, and other salads and entrees and were all extremely pleased. We already plan to visit again in a few months, which also speaks volumes regarding the food, service, and comfortable atmosphere.
Our waitstaff was pleasant and friendly, as well as the support waitstaff who assisted with bringing items to the table, clearing plates, and offering refills.
The only suggestion I might have is that the facilities could likely benefit from a freshening up as wear and tear are showing; however, the menu is eclectic and exotic, everything has been consistent quality, and the service is terrific. We will be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 11, 2023Previous reviewI enjoyed my prior rookie visit so much and was intrigued by the menu, so I returned for a solo late lunch on a Saturday.
I chose to sit at the large bar in the dining room to the right of the entrance and ordered a glass of house red wine, a merlot $7.
I intended to sample several items to justify my visit and have leftovers to enjoy next day, so I started with an appetizer this time of Punjabi samosas which consisted of dumplings with potatoes and peas. These dumplings were tender and had warm spice flavor. There were 3 and came with a tamarind sauce.
I ordered a Crispy Petal Salad as my main and this consisted of roasted brussel sprout petals, lima beans, goat cheese crumbles, almond fig cake, crispy onions. olive oil and balsamic glaze. I enjoyed all of the flavors and uncommon combination of ingredients as a welcomed change of pace. I will be thinking about this salad for a long time. I took over half of it To Go as well as a dessert treat of devil's food trifle (chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, raspberry sauce, whipped cream) for next day's special Sunday lunch.
The barkeep was attentive with service in the bar area, as well as answering the phone to take call-in orders, without missing a beat. The vibe was laidback and felt indulgent for a Saturday afternoon.
Parking was manageable for the time of day, but Bardstown Road is definitely bustling. I plan to return periodically when I'm in the area because of so many menu options left to sample.Dec 2, 2023Previous reviewGroup of 6 for a Thursday night dinner at 5 PM and we were immediately seated at a lovely table near the window with views of bustling Bardstown Road. My dining companions have been here multiple times, so I was the rookie.
Parking was a nonissue, but I can well imagine it's more of a nightmare later in the evening and weekends. There were several street parking spots out front as well as on nearby side streets, so one might need to circle around to jockey for plum picks.
First impressions: Wow! Eclectic menu -- items to please most guests and so many dishes I would want to sample. I plan to return in order to scratch the itch.
Decor is middle eastern, soft lighting and atmosphere. We sat in the dining room containing the large bar, but noise level was not an issue.
Our server was pleasant and friendly and she was very accommodating to help us get on our way to our next event. I look forward to returning when not so rushed.
I selected an Old World Salad, small size $8, to start and presentation and taste were great with roasted vegetables, warm goat cheese, mixed greens, with olive tapenade croutons and white wine dijon vinaigrette. The warm vegetables and goat cheese were melt in my mouth and were wonderful paired with a glass of the house red wine $7.
I decided to have calamari Terre Santa appetizer $15 as my main, which was a great choice due to amount of food. This was squid rings in oriental spices, lightly fried with sauteed peppers and onions and sweet chili garlic sauce. I really enjoyed how light this dish was -- no breading and just delicious tender squid.
My dining buddies had the old world hummus which had a beautiful presentation with assorted pita and vegetables to dip; a chicken quesadilla which was warm, cheesy, and crispy with chilled sour cream; and capellini marinara served in a warm bowl with noodles well enrobed in the sauce.
Plan to return soon and often and it's easily worth any parking headaches in order to dine here! - Aug 3, 2023Updated review
My friends and I came for a late night dinner at Ramsi's, thankful to walk down from happy hour at a nearby bar for a meal. The night was great so we sat the the patio. Servers were also great - friendly and attentive.
I got us an appetizer of queso and chips, which is a longstanding favorite. We ate it all and almost ran out of chips. I'd never ordered a burger from Ramsi's before and it was a fantastic choice. The spicy aioli was flavorful and I was thankful it didn't bring a lot of heat. The dish came with home fries that were great to dip too.
Sadly my friend didn't have the same experience as me. He took a few bites of his tortellini and stopped eating, saying it tasted freezer burn. When he realized the price he had to pay the the dish, it added to his disappointment.
Ramsi's menu continues to be plentiful and gives you a variety of dishes. I truly miss the fajita pita and its absence will decrease the crave I have to stop in. Empress chicken is a close favorite though and still available.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Jun 23, 2019Previous reviewRamsi's is a long-standing Louisville original. I began visiting here almost 25 years ago when dating my husband, when the restaurant was so tiny and the wait time was up to 2 hrs. We'd check in and then kill time at the nearby coffee shop and bookstore.
One of my best friends came in from Australia so we reserved a table for 4. I highly recommend reservations. Ramsi's offers indoor and patio seating.
I ordered a mojito as my cocktail. While I appreciated it wasn't sickening sweet, it didn't have much flavor or kick to it. I wouldn't recommend it.
The goat cheese appetizer was phenomenal. In the middle of oil sat goat cheese. The oil also included bits of red pepper and green olives. A roasted garlic clove sat on the side and sliced toasted bread. We asked for additional bread. They should give you double than what came on the platter.
My husband ordered our old favorite - the empress chicken. A healthy amount of chicken sits on a bed of rice mixes with broccoli. The sauce is flavorful and not spicy. It's a great dish for when you're hungry but it could be split or some taken home for a later meal.
I ordered the Greek chicken fajita pita, another favorite. Two huge pita are filled with grilled chicken and peppers. A small bowl of cucumber sauce was fantastic for adding to each bite. The pita also came with house fries. Again this is a dish you could split or take some home.
Our server was attentive. No issues with our order or bill. We waited only a few minutes for our table after checking in for the reservation. The restaurant stays busy so allow time to get in and out, or request your bill early on if you're on a time schedule.
The crowd is very mixed and included families. Ramsi's offers a kids meal. Most dishes average $15-20 each. - Bea C.Collegedale, TN902216Apr 13, 2024

It's a larger place than it initially appears, combining multiple indoor rooms and an outdoor patio. The indoors has extensive decor to match their claim of being a global restaurant. It was a local, oddball crowd when I dropped in.
I had picked it as a place where I wouldn't get a ton of food, but quite to the contrary, my portion sizes were quite generous. Starting with a salad gave me a large amount of spinach and fruit. Ordering a Jamaican tofu sandwich, which was in a foccacia for some reason, resulted in a quarter of a foccacia, quite a lot of breaded tofu in a sauce that lived up to its promises of spiciness, and a large side of potato wedges. A house ginger ale clearly had plenty of ginger root in it.
And with them having a happy hour discount on everything most days of the week, it came out to a pretty good price all things considered. I housed some skepticism that such a broadly oriented restaurant would be able to produce any particular taste well, but I was convinced. And there's plenty of options for all the vegan and gluten-free diners out there.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
