I've been to a bunch of 24 Hour Fitness locations across Houston and they all have their pros and cons. I checked out the Meyerland location on a Saturday evening. They have a large parking lot so parking isn't a problem.
On the pros side, this is one of their larger locations. In addition to the standard free weights, machines, and cardio equipment, they also have a basketball court and a swimming pool/hot tub/sauna/steam room. Since they offer the full nine yards, it was pretty packed when I was there. All in all, I was happy with my visit and I'll add this location to my rotation.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jasmine R.Houston, TX806313881Jan 21, 2019Updated review
I actually like the gym. Of course it's not a super sport. And yea a few of the weight machines are dated. But the cardio machines are up to date. I visit this location a lot. And what I like about it is that it's easy to get in and get out.
My workouts are usually early in the morning around 5am. I have never felt unsafe at this location.
I've also read other reviews (including my own). And management has definitely resolved a lot of the issues.
This gym is closer to my apartment and I will continue to workout here.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for your comment regarding our location at Meyerland Plaza. I will check the ambient air temperature to make sure the club is comfortable. Thank you again.

This 24 definitely needs an upgrade. it is probably one of the worst locations in Houston! All the equipment is so old and dingy. Even the dumbbells and plates feel dirty just holding them. The annoying thing is all the dumbbells are never in the right section. Sometimes I'll see the 70 pound dumbbells in the 20 pound section.
The locker rooms are always gross and in need of a cleaning. The restrooms are consistently dirty at every visit. I really don't know why the staff here can't get it together. The 24 next to the Galleria makes this one seem disgusting in comparison. Save yourself the trouble and find another gym!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Jermaine T.Houston, TX262Apr 5, 2019
This is the WORST 24hr Fitness I've visited. It's literally 2 minutes away from my house, and I drive 12 minutes fown the freeway just to train at the Richmond location The restroom/locker rooms are super outdated and unsanitary. The urinals are usually backed up and smells like stale urine. And when they do work, the water pressure is horrible, so they barely flush. Secondly, the sauna smells like boiled eggs and appears as though it's not cleaned daily. Also, the machines are very outdated and rusty. I'm ok with using old school machines, but these barely function, extremely difficult to adjust the seats because of rust, and most squeak due to rust and lack of maintenance.
Only pro: There are plenty cardio machines are updated
I've visited a total of 5 24hr Fitness Houston locations, and they usually have reputation for being decent, relatively clean, and updated. Meyerland location is by far the worst one.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Peter K.Coquitlam, Canada1278108Feb 15, 2019Updated review
Surprisingly has a swimming pool and a basketball court!
Nice place to workout and it wasn't even packed at 4pm. The gym was super nice and the hoops were in good condition.
The equipment was good and it was really clean. Also, the workers aren't too pushy about you signing up. People working at the desk were friendly too.
Just took a star off cause it's humid in there. I don't think they have AC~Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 14, 2019Previous reviewSurprisingly has a swimming pool and a basketball court!

Not too impressed. Still dirty. And don't even bother with the classes and the app, neither are consistent. Management doesn't really care about anything but signing people up. I'm just tired of getting here for a class that's been cancelled at the last minute. And all they say is we're so sorry ma'am...

My friend caught a staph infection here so I try to wear gloves at all times. NOTHING has changed. The weights are a mess, people don't store the weights they use and are soooo rude when you call them on it. I don't know if this disgusting mess should be attributed to the kind of people that work out here or the employees not keeping the equipment organized. Staff doesn't do anything but hang out at the front, on cell phones, laughing and socializing. I left to go to another gym for a couple of years, which flooded during Harvey so I renewed membership here. I now only go to classes, waiting for Lifetime to open up a gym around here.
Sep 20, 2014Previous reviewYes this gym smells gross. The staff is pretty arrogant, and they don't enforce the rules about unloading heavy weights off machines so that someone else can use them.
NOT good about their class schedule, sometimes fail to update when a class is cancelled. Also, I've asked several times about what deals they have for teens... NONE so that I would have to pay MORE for my 15-year old kid than myself. They have some new cardio equipment but the STEP MILLS are all ancient and half of them are always out of order and when you tell the staff, they kind of blow you off like, "we know, you dumbass, and we don't care..." Overpriced for what you get, snap fitness around the corner is cheaper, and you are treated like an actual paying customer, might go back to that and take some friends from 24-HF with me! - Brandon B.Houston, TX021Apr 30, 2018
I came in with a "Free three-day guest pass", hoping to experience the gym at my leisure. I received a call to activate my 3 day pass, so I went in to do just that. Upon arriving and trying to do so, I was denied access of the pass. In the past, I have literally visited this gym one time and this was about 5 years ago. The fine print on the pass says "must not have been a guest or member in the last 6 months". So I'm thinking maybe they think I'm just trying to use all of the guest passes that I can put my energy into acquiring ...
or something like that. who knows....
I would've used a guest pass in the past, so I suggested they put my info into the computer and seeing if it came up. They proceeded to tell me that since they were a "special location" I could not utilize this pass....even though the pass specifically states "valid at all locations".
I was accused of trying to fake my name in their database(I put a shortened version of my FIRST NAME on the guestpass sign-up sheet), as well as my zip code... not my address... my ZIP CODE. I urged the lady to search the address in a maps app if she felt so strongly that I was lying about the zip code. I kept my cool and only spoke facts the whole time and they eventually "could only give me a 1-day pass" all of a sudden. I am giving two stars because I enjoyed the gym. It has been renovated since I last visited five years ago and it was a nice experience, minus interacting with the people working in front at the computers. This was a very aggravating experience. I won't flat out say that I was being discriminated upon, but this location is in Bellaire and I see that other reviews show no problems in the past, with using 3-day passes. Very disappointed in their service, will not return.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 4, 2016
This gym is now my shizz because I moved and I had renew my membership through the Costco gift certificate (despite what the fine print says, the gift certificate isn't just for first time/new 24 Hour members), thus lost my grandfathered status at the Galleria Super Sport (sigh!). Nonetheless, this quaint basic b gym gits er dun, especially when all she does is cardio (look, at least it's something, okay!?!).
All my limited interactions with the front desk staff have been really friendly and positive, so no complaints there. However, the women's restroom . . . Holy hell, is it ever not a mess? Granted, this more likely attributable to the beastly animals whom frequent this gym (truly, I've seen unattended dive bar restrooms in better shape), but I get the feeling the staff avoids checking on the toilet stalls as much as they should.
This location seems to draw in a rather diverse crowd. There's usually a fair amount of senior citizens and families maintaining their fitness here, along with quirky sing-a-loud elliptical machine dude. It's a, how do you say, less meat-headesque environment than the Galleria 24 Hour. However, it does also lend itself to a grimier and stinkier experience, I guess since it's smaller and not as luxe as a Super Sport location.
I do try to avoid coming here right after work, as parking becomes frustrating (I don't wanna park across the street damnit!) and the non-malfunctioning fully ellipticals are usually occupied. But you know, it's conveniently located for me and close to a Target. Because sometimes I like to reward myself with knick knacks after going to the gym. Hey man, whatever it takes to stave off my transformation into my true couch potato self.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Cecy A.Southeast Houston, Houston, TX034Oct 9, 2018
Im a member at this gym but today the afternoon yoga instructor really pissed me off. I had a bad day at work and some other personal issues going so i wanted to release all that stress in the gym. They where having a yoga class which i quietly entered and went all the way to the back corner so i can do my own thing and not bother nobody. Keep in mind ive done this in previews other class besides the yoga class and they've never mentioned anything before so i though it was a ok.
I had berly got some weight when the instructor comes running towards and tells me i need to get out, the yoga class will end in 30 minutes. I told her my bad, but I wasnt bothering nobody. That when she screamed at me and said "Your bothering me, I need you to get out now" while she was still wearing the microphone on, so the other people start looking at me. I grabbed my stuff and tried to put the mat back, she had already put the weights back, i told her i could put the mat back, no problem but instead she janked it from my arm and walked away pissed. I was so embarrassed, i dont usually complain but that really got me mad.
she humiliated in front of people, I place where i pay to go work out. I'm a grown woman, she could have nicely told and i would have left, and gladly apologize. She made a big oh scene instead. The rest of the staff is great but i dont know whats her problem. I was so mad i didnt even want to finish working out, Im considered changed gyms now.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jae L.San Antonio, TX5286723Jun 26, 2018
Probably one of the more poorly maintained 24 facilities around. I've been going here for a month now and it's always a mess in here. I've seen the employees re-rack weights once, but you can't totally blame them for the gym being a mess. Some of the people that go here have absolutely no respect for the gym and others. They leave weights all over the place, don't re-rack their weights, and put dumbbells in every incorrect order you can think of. You'll find a 75 lb dumbbell next to a 10, and then you'll have to look for the other 75 lb dumbbell if you want to use two of them as a pair. There are a handful of people that work out at the same time I do that act like they own the gym. They go around walking with their shirts off and will tap on your shoulder asking, "how many more sets yah got?"
I'm considering either paying $10 more to upgrade my membership so I can go to the Rice Village location or just switching gyms entirely. Haven't decided yet.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
