Suburban Lawn & Garden is a KC icon when it comes to gardening in the metro. There are a few locations in the area, but this one to my knowledge, is the biggest. When I come here it's a bit of an adventure since it's so far south, but I usually enjoy perusing the aisles of hanging planters, succulents, and flowers. Outside you'll find trees, larger shrubs, and things like rocks, pavers, and cement statues for your garden.
Overall, I enjoy visiting this location and I'm not sure why the star rating is so low. My only critique is that I do find it to be a bit on the pricey side, though I do think you sometimes get what you pay for. I've purchased trees, vegetable plants, flowers, succulents, etc. from Suburban and overall had good luck with them.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Jul 29, 2020
This place is HUGE!
I had never been inside, I've only passed by. I went in to get help to repot some plants. I was introduced to Tara and she knew exactly what to do. Although I had to leave my babies overnight, I knew they were in good hands. Also, I ended up talking to Karen who helped me pick out more plants to fill 2 planters that are now sitting outside my house. Plants gives us life and makes an area look better than it originally did.
Thanks for taking care of me and my plants!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - R K.Lee's Summit, MO1319Jun 6, 2023
The guy at the corporate office drives a yellow Porsche turbo if that tells you anything about the leadership at Suburban LG. I'm inside doing paperwork so I can get loaded while my guys are sitting in my truck getting paid. Best price in town. Worst commercial service

On a terribly hot,hot day outside in the landscape rock area at Suburban Lawn and Garden in MartinCity, I came just for one small bucket of rocks. I met Vincent who was very friendly and patient especially with someone who was taking up his time on such a small purchase. He was knowledgeable and helpful and I was very appreciative . Great employee.

I came in today to bring back a seeder that I rented.
The seeder is a great way to spreed weed & feed etc quickly and efficiently.
The staff at Suburban Lawn & Garden are very knowledgeable and attentive.
They got us right together with the yard and the best process for how to move forward.
If you are ever thinking garden/yard give them a try.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - C L.Kansas City, MO061Jun 6, 2020
Very disappointed with the owner of this place. I have purchased probably a dozen trees from suburban. I had one that died and got a replacement. This time we made sure to dig a large hole with fresh topsoil. We did everything we were supposed to do. The replacement that we got survived two weeks and started turning brown.
After six weeks we pulled it out to find that it had no roots on it. It was in the burlap with dirt so we couldn't tell that there were no roots. I took the replacement tree back to the store and they refused to take responsibility for it not surviving. Their policy is one replacement only. I would have no problem with that if it had roots on it. I will take my business elsewhere. You should not sell trees without adequate roots on them, especially when the trees are $300.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Hannah J.Topeka, KS13203Mar 12, 2020
I've never had a problem with this place. I can only speak for the succulents/ cacti when I say they're reasonably priced. There was this one aeonium I wanted that was marked at $15, but was suppose to be more, but they were happy to give it to me for the $15. I also got an Agave potatorum cv. Shijo-Raijin cluster from this place for $16, which is a complete steal considering a small pup goes for ~$25 online, and I got a relatively huge one w/ 3 pups.

I called after looking online to see if they had a specific tree in stock before going to the store in person. the crabby, rude receptionist gave me a lecture about how the people who work in the nursery can't just drop what they are doing to answer the phone, so they don't answer and that I should look online ( I had already done that). I am a customer and unfamiliar with the inner workings of their store. I expect that if there is a phone number listed, the store expects phone calls. She then had the audacity to ask if that helped ( to which I answered no). I then proceeded to purchase my tree from Loew's, where they were happy to help! What a crab!

Absolutely worst customer service I've encountered. I hate writing bad reviews but this was frustrating enough to warrant it. I bought thousands of dollars worth of trees a couple months ago and one of them died immediately. I spoke with someone over the phone on Thursday explaining to them that the tree was too heavy for me to return and I have no tools to cut it. I offered to pay for someone there to bring the new tree and take the old one. The person I spoke with said they would allow me to take a photo of it and bring the receipt. I made the drive all the way out here this morning to be told by the manager, Gregg, that he would not honor what the other employee had told me. He didn't even offer empathy or apologize for the inconvenience. His voice was stern like I was the one that did something wrong despite me following his employees instructions.
