Always had a great experience coming here to get my hair done! Even for an awkward person such as myself, I felt comfortable and relaxed during the process every visit. A few things that stick out the most:
- The space is always clean and beautiful,
- Products they sell and use smell AMAZING,
- I let the stylists know I am on a tight budget and always have they provided me with options within the price range (I make sure I leave room in the budget for a nice tip),
- The stylists always let you know what they are going to do before they do anything,
- Always feel a confident boost when I walk out knowing my hair looks great and how I want it.
Lastly, this location is open really late Mon-Thu which means less struggling on my end to find an appointment that fits my daytime schedule AND I can schedule when traffic isn't chaos in Altoona.
10/10 recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nicole I.Altoona, IA02Dec 28, 2023
For the second time in 6 months we were charged over twice what we were quoted on the phone upon receiving service.
I took my five year old in for her first haircut before the start of the school year; when I called to schedule I was very clear that this would be a simple trim for a five year old so I did NOT need a top tier stylist, and was quoted $20-30. My child's hair is shoulder length, was not washed or dried or even styled by the stylist, it was sprayed with a spray bottle and a maximum of five snips were made, and she was done. It looked no different than when we arrived. It ended up being $50. I called and was told I didn't specify the stylist level so received services from a top tier stylist. I chalked it up to a possible miscommunication.
My 15 year old then made an appointment for a color, cut and style, we were VERY careful and detailed, not only because of our prior experience/lesson, but because she was saving her own money for this. I told them this when we scheduled our appointment, and was explicitly quoted a total of $90 for various services by a newer stylist. She went in for a color consult, and all seemed on track. She was then charged $197 for services at the end - over TWICE what she was quoted and saved for.
I called, again, and spoke to the stylist who explained she never talked about pricing with my daughter and essentially that regardless of what we were quoted on the phone, she charges for services rendered. She offered for me to speak with the manager, but repeated that she must be paid for services rendered. I was too frustrated to continue so said no thanks and reiterated how disheartening this was for my daughter. After giving myself some time, I called back and requested to speak to the manager, they took my name and number and said they would be in the next day and would call back then. I have not received any reach out.
As someone who came from a low income family, considers trips to the salon a luxury or treat, and whom is very conscientious of what I spend, in addition to us being very clear we needed a true close estimate for my teenage daughter to save for, this is frustrating, disheartening, and seems to make going to a good quality salon inaccessible for everyone. When people ask for pricing, they should be aware for some, that is crucial. Not everyone has the funds to spend TWICE AS MUCH as they planned for. And the cold, dismissive, and seemingly careless tone when confronted with that by the salon and stylists is just another let down. EVERYONE deserves to enjoy a day at the salon, even people who have to scrimp and save, and ask VERY SPECIFICALLY what it will cost so they CAN AFFORD a special treat and to FEEL SPECIAL. We've gone to Signatures many times over the years. I don't know what has changed, but this is enough to not return when we literally can't do anything to ensure we have the funds and know what we will be charged.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Shawnalee S.Bondurant, IA483518Oct 27, 2020
Absolutely amazing! I love Becky and have finally found my new hair stylist here in Iowa. One of the hardest parts about moving from Southern California isn't the blistering cold winter, but finding a great stylist.
I have to start with the fact that I have springy ringlets, but kind of fine hair. Its very unique and hard to find people who know how to fix it. Needless to say I have some serious trust issues with my hair. Normally when I leave a salon I want to cry. If my hair is not dry cut it almost always comes out uneven and the next day is a disaster. I went to Becky to get a color knowing I also wanted to a cut and straightening treatment. She went over the options with me and we decided to do the coldwave treatment first. I was going to do the heat wave treatment, but she said we should try the cold wave and see how it goes. It worked beautifully. My hair is so soft, it still has some waves and curl to it but cut my style time drastically. Becky also did a quick trim on my hair as well. It not only looks great, but it feels amazing. Becky is friendly and so sweet. I will definitely be going back to her. Already booked my next appointment. She really works hard to have you feeling spectacular when you are leaving the salon.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lisa K.Fairfax, IA099Feb 16, 2017
Looks can be deceiving! The new building is beautiful and nicely decorated but the service is still poor. The ladies that work there are less-than-professional and more concerned with chatting with each other.
My friend and I got manicures and pedicures in February. The pedicures were ok, but nowhere near the quality you get at other salons. The manicures were straight up terrible. The way the manicure station is setup isn't comfortable or functional. They didn't even soak our hands or push back our cuticles!? The polish looked old and went on super thick and "gooey".
The gal who did my toes didn't even notice she dinged up my big toe when removing the toe separator. She tried to fix it but it looked terrible. Four days later both my manicure and my friends shellac manicure were peeling and chipping off.
Terrible service and quality. Don't get sucked in by the pretty building.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Carrie M.Urbandale, IA207268421Oct 4, 2017
BEST nail artist in town! I have been going to for years now and their has never been a nail art challenge that Becky hasn't accepted. I show her a design and she knocks it out of the park every time. I also appreciate their week guarantee on Shellac nails. Although it doesn't happen often, when I do need a quick fix they are their to accommodate. I have also had Allysa do nail art too and she is also great. Boring nails can be done anywhere, these ladies take nails to a whole new level!

Getting a Brazilian wax last minute gave me very few options so i ended up here. First things first, when you arrive the place looks sketchy to begin with, I had to double check to make sure i was at the right location.
When you walk in, the receptionists blankly stare at you literally waiting for you to talk to them. No greeting whatsoever, in fact they make you uncomfortable.
Getting into specifics with what I went for... within the paperwork for consent, theres a box you check confirming the esthetician went over the procedure with you and i of course left it blank while filling out the paper work because she didnt go over anything with me. I (my mistake) assumed she would before taking back the form. Nope!!!! This being my first time getting a Brazilian, i was very nervous, i expected a step by step explanation about what i was about to endure. Nope!!!
In fact, we hardly spoke at all. She was very annoyed with my as i have a low pain tolerance. Later i watched videos about how its done more professionally and found out she was supposed to apply pressure after removing the wax... nope!!!!!
At one point when i was trying to talk to her to get my mind off the pain, she asked me to please be quiet as someone was getting a massage in the next room.
The very little we spoke, she was very rude. She was so annoyed with my discomfort she literally offered me to stop the process, with wax still literally on my skin. This lady was willing to let me go half done WITH WAX STILL ON MY SKIN.
Why? Because my instinct to the pain was to close my legs every time she pulled. Sorry you don't know how to minimize the pain?
ON TOP OF ALL OF THIS
When i got home and hoped in the shower, i noted i still had hair on the inside.

Sometimes you really need to trust your instincts, and this was one of those times for me. I was trying to decide between Happy Nails and this place, and boy did I make the wrong choice. Although I was happy they could "squeeze me in" the same day for a simple pedicure, I will never go back here for these reasons:
- I'm not too keen on receiving a dismissive greeting while checking in, and then being forced to wait 12 minutes past my appointment time.
- I really don't enjoy watching someone polish my nails with the same interest level as a 5 year old in a doctor's waiting room. This, I now know, causes an inconsistent polish job (read: streak lines, polish on my cuticles) and makes me grumpy.
- They don't have UV dryers. WHAT??? I have never been to a place without those before. I could not believe that after finishing and "leaving me to dry," the girl came back over, pressed her finger on my toes, and said, "ok, you're good to go now."
If only there was such a thing as the Shotty Nail Service Police, I'd be glad to report her considering how I now have her fingerprint so gracefully placed on my two big toes. And coincidentally enough, a day later, a huge chip on my big toe appeared.
Most importantly, although it was only $25, I'd much rather give that money to people who are actually genuinely nice.
See ya never, Signatures.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Debbie C.Des Moines, IA03Mar 26, 2012First to Review
I would of given NEGATIVE stars if I could!! I took my daughter there, and she absolutely hated it!! (And I wasn't too impressed either) The gal at the front desk was unfriendly--unless she knew you. Wouldn't smile when we walked in. All the workers talked about what they were doing after work--never seen 1 of them talk to the person in their chair!!
Felt like they thought they were better than most!! I thought well, your not!!
Never seen a price list--was told that the stylists can charge whatever they want--and boy do they!!!
VERY SNOBBISH!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Amanda H.Grimes, IA010Feb 26, 2016
I would not recommend coming here for shellac nails or a massage. The shellac chipped and peeled off easily within a week. The massage itself was good but the therapist talked the entire time. Not a relaxing hour to think about nothing.
