About the Business
1 Kitchen. 2 Great Menus. Established in 1983, Dierdorf & Hart's Steakhouse proves to be committed to serving the highest quality food with an enduring dedication to outstanding service. As one of the premier, independent, fine-dining steakhouses in America, our steaks are aged for 21+ days. They are broiled under intense, forced heat that instantly sears the steak allowing them to retain all of their natural juices. This consistently produces the best flavor & tenderness, which portrays why Dierdorf & Hart's Steakhouse has such an incredible reputation; one that they are extremely proud of. Dierdorf & Hart's also features an extensive collection of fine wines to enhance the enjoyment of their steaks, chops, chicken, lobster, & fresh seafood. In 2011, we introduced a 2nd concept into our kitchen - D&H American Bistro. D&H has over 20 featured items under $10 dollars and served in a casual setting. While the quality of food remains identical to our Steakhouse, the new menu offers s

Pretty average steakhouse......would not really be in a hurry to go back. When I was seated, they put me in no man's land and I was ignored for about 10 minutes, while people seated after me already had their drinks. Pretty shitty service for a place serving $40 steaks.
The bread that comes with the food is some kind of a biscuit instead of a roll- definitely not a fan. The steak (strip) was good, but it only came with one side, for the price you should be able to get a potato and some veggies.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jennifer B.Grover, MO14381423May 31, 2008
Dierdorf & Harts is one of my favorite restaurants, and has been since I was a kid. I am very lucky in that my parents always put quality food high upon the totem pole. Here is where I had my first filet mignon and my first lobster tail, embedding within me a love of good food. We celebrated our milestones here throughout my life.
Recently I was able to go back, now being on my own I'm not usually able to afford a meal here. I was so happy to see that they have retained their consistent high quality! I had the smaller 8 oz filet and had them add an 8 oz lobster tail. The filet I got medium/medium rare, and I had them cook the lobster tail a little longer than normal, as is my preference. My dish came out just as I had ordered, and our wait for our meal was not long. My husband got the filet, and his was cooked perfectly as well.
The people who work here are consistently friendly and are eager to please. In fact, my family used to come here so often that they knew us by name and we didn't even have to order! I'm saddened that their location downtown closed, but I want people to be aware of the Westport - the original - location. If you come here, you will be treated like royalty. Come and support the best local fine dining and steak house that St. Louis has ever had.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - L V.Dothan, AL53162385Aug 23, 2012
Yeah ... 5 stars... why? because the waiter was fun and full of knowledgeable information just when you think you know what you want from the menu, they bring out a platter of their steaks and meat specials for the night and give you a visual representation of what you're getting, this threw me into a loop of hard to make decisions on what to order because it all looked absolutely amazing!.
the food was great, and so was the beer. I dined here twice while in St. Louis earlier this month, and I've posted pictures of both steaks that I partook in.
The first one was the dry aged strip. It was extremely flavorful and cooked perfectly, the herbed butter they throw on it really gives it a lot more flavor but does not take away from the actual taste of the meat, this ... I like... there was not one piece of inedible gristle on it the best part was the "pointed end" piece.
The second cut that I got was the filet... it may look small in the picture but that thing was very filling once I cut into it.
With that I had an appetizer of the Crab Cakes as you can see in the picture. They were 99 percent crab. 1 percent filler fluff which I liked. Its rare to find a restaurant, especially in the central part of the united states that isn't afraid to pack actual crab into a crab cake rather then add a bunch of fluff to it instead. I would order these again!
The side I got was the mushrooms, they were varieties of wild mushrooms and had great flavor.
I forgot the waiters name but he has been there for 20 years.
I might mention that when I arrived the second time I had a plane to catch and the manager offered me the full menu of the steakhouse while I was seated in the Bistro section as the Steakhouse itself was not opened yet. Menu Items were available and they were extremely accommodating to make the last meal I partook in on my yearly trip as amazing as possible.
The beers they have on draft are very good and they are priced right and along the same lines as the comparison to the other bars in the plaza area.
I will return! Thanks so much for being a special and tasty part of my trip to St. Louis!.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cliff M.Mechanicsville, VA5527631Jul 1, 2009
I was in town on business and my client recommended we check out West Port Plaza. There's a lot of restaurants there and being in the mood for a steak, I chose Dierdorf and Hart's. It was a positive experience except for one significant caveat that prevents me from giving it anything higher than two stars.
Atmosphere here is nice but won't make those casually dressed feel uncomfortable. Service was very attentive and friendly. They have a "table captain" come around and show off some of the cuts of meat, seafood and a few interesting cuts of game. He warned us that they tend to undercook their steaks slightly but I thought to myself, "Well, this is a steakhouse. It can't be that far off."
I ordered the bone-in ribeye and asked for it to be cooked medium rare, my usual. Unfortunately it came out completely rare, red all the way through when I cut into it. They had even slathered some house butter on top which totally refused to melt given the low temperature of the steak. There was also a little bit of cartilidge in the meat that wasn't real fun to cut around or chew through. It had good flavor but the temperature issue really ruined it for me.
The rest of the food was good, helping to salvage the experience. I highly recommend the calamari; the aioli was unique and very tasty. They also had some gouda mashed potatoes which were excellent.
I have to imagine that if I had heeded their advice more seriously and ordered medium that they steak would have been just the way I like it. But as a steakhouse, it kinda blows my mind that they would consistently and significantly undercook their steaks. Correct that one part and it could easily be a 4-star joint.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sherri K.Alexandria, VA6501034133Oct 19, 2012
Fantastic service!
You can choose between bistro (bar) seating or the fine dining area. You can still get the fine dining menu in the bistro area but there are plenty of choices on both menus.
The lamb lollypops were delicious - the pesto was a nice touch.
The crab cakes had a spicy kick. Great for a little snappy appy with a glass of wine.
Te chicken mushroom Caesar salad had great flavors and was plenty for one or two to share. Good wine list and plenty of options for steak or small plates.
Good variety. Good westport option.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mike Z.Dallas, TX3791574Mar 18, 2009
When I grew up in St.Louis I would always go to the location Downtown. However they closed the downtown location like a year ago. Either one you go to will be amazing. This place is "in my opinion" the best restaurant in St. Louis. The steaks are cooked perfectly and and they have a great wine selection. The last time I was there I had the full rack of lamb. AMAZING. This place is not cheap but I have been to places elsewhere in other cities that were more expensive then D&H's.
If you are in STL and are in the West Port Plaza area, stop by and check it out.
Peace Out,

In my opinion one of the top 5 steakhouses in town. If you've never been to Dierdorf & Hart's your experience begins with a mouth-watering presentation of the various cuts of meat available - strips, filets, porterhouse and ribeyes...all ready to be cooked to the temperature of your choice. Prices range from reasonable to you get what you paid for...a big piece of meat. I tend to always get a filet, but the strip is great too.
Seafood lovers won't be disappointed here either with offerings of lobster, scallops and salmon. There's always a chef's special to make your choice more difficult.
You'll find a great selection of wines and spirits and did I mention they have desserts...house-made desserts. (Can you say coma.)
If you like steak you need to put Dierdorf and Hart's on your list and then go eat.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 15614952Jan 13, 2013
I was very disappointed. We stopped in the bar to have a drink and appetizer before going to the Funny Bone. The service from the bartender was great, but was a bit put off that she decided to clean the bar, spraying cleaner directly in front of us while our food was out. The crab cakes were too spicy for me, but I was surprised for a steakhouse that they used crab meat that you could find in a can, not that I expect from a steakhouse. I was also surprised how dead it was on a Friday night. I hope Westport can survive.

I was staying at a nearby hotel for business and was trying to figure out where to go for dinner. Thanks for Chris M.'s review, we decided on Dierdorf & Hart's. It was mid week and we didn't have troubles with seating. Luckily, they have a casual dining area and then the white table cloth formal dining area...not wanting to go too formal, we opted to sit in the first area and were able to have the choice of ordering from either menus.
I split the mussels appetizers with co-workers (their wine sauce was delicious!) and got the scallops entree. It was a wonderful dish! My only take back is that the scallops weren't as big as I was expecting so thank goodness I didn't have too big of an appetite...or I may have had to order another dish.
For dessert, just wanting a little bite of sweets to finish off dinner, we got the 3 little cheesecake bites. The trio is composed of 3 different cheesecake types, but the waiter was very accommodating when all three of us wanted the chocolate one...we each of got and were very happy.
In the whole outdoor area with different restaurants and small shops, I'm so glad to have picked this as our dinner choice.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sara H.Lake Forest, CA24513050Dec 12, 2011
