Blown away this last weekend. We had a large family gathering and figured we'd give it a shot and see if Buttercup could potentially accommodate as it central to several of our guests and we know the food is consistent. We made an excellent choice. We came Saturday evening right at dinner time. They were busy, but our entire party could not tell. We were greeted promptly and drinks came out quick. Manager was lovely and assisted her team with ease. The team at Buttercup did not miss a beat; from the delivery of hot food, to clean utensils, pre bussing dirty plates, to timely dessert delivery...our family truly had a memorable dinner. We'll be back.

I normally don't do reviews, but I'm the type of person who prefers to see photos of food before I order because it helps me make decisions, and I was absolutely shocked that not a single person on the entire internet had ever uploaded a photo of the incredible macaroni and cheese at this restaurant, on Yelp or on Google.
The mac is plentiful. It is cheesy. It is melty. The cream sauce is delicious. Get it with the bacon because they do not skimp. Literally my only criticism is that the noodles were a little too soft for my personal preference, but I know people who absolutely love a soft noodle (and that's okay).
Just to round out this review, the ambiance was lovely and our server Paula was perfectly attentive. The staff also made it really easy to split the bill item by item at the end when my group paid at the cash register.
Oh, and the curly fries were bomb (sprinkled with black pepper)... and they have free lollipops to-go.
You're welcome.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Richard F.Vallejo, CA41273Mar 31, 2024
Been going here for years. Usually I leave satisfied with the food and service. Tonight I was underwhelmed. I wanted fish and chips and so did another old fart that walked in while I was seated. They said it's seasonal. It's probably frozen anyways. So not sure which season Thier talking about. Frozen season ? So I got a safe choice. A burger. It was under cooked. Well it sucked. I could have turned it back but I didn't because it was close to closing and a holiday . That being said. Guys just put a little more effort into the food and service and things will be great ok. I've been going to buttercup for over 10 years. The bun was loaded with grease and flat. The onion slice was the end piece the piece that should be thrown away. Cheesecake blah.
My daughter ordered brownie with vanilla ice cream and they put mocha on instead. We had to get the manager a couple times for help because our waitress was visiting with co workers or friends. Not a lot of table or people in there. We should have had lots of attention. Ok it was a holiday but ....come on people.86 bucks for taking my kids out for a snack.
We can do better then this. I will keep coming back /light late dinner. but I hope they step it up a notch because I found a new place that has. So maybe one more try and then if that is bad I won't be back. We'll see ??Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Julia W.Oakland, CA203511Mar 3, 2024
EDITED TO ADD: I spoke with a manager today, who was very apologetic, refunded me for the sub-standard items, and made it up to us. So maybe we will consider returning, but definitely not take-out.

We had a bizarre experience with our pickup order on March 1st. I really wish someone had reviewed the order before giving us the bag. Sadly, I paid a 15% tip and didn't verify everything was correct, so I won't be doing that again.
We ordered a few different items for our family. The vegetarian sandwich (14.99) came with a spinach salad. There was no dressing on the side included, and my mother found a foreign piece of dried out plant material in her salad, definitely NOT spinach. We have no idea how that got there. It was really windy that day, so maybe the wind blew something into the salad bowl when it was being prepped?
Secondly, I ordered the reuben with a caesar salad and requested it to be dressed (not sauce on the side.) The caesar salad was missing from our order entirely. The sandwich was packed, but there was no salad next to it like there was in my mother's order.
Third, my daughter ordered pancakes with sausage and egg white, and there was no syrup included.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Isabella R.Concord, CA1135May 7, 2024
my family has loved buttercup for years, the food is great and the staff is always sweet. I had my birthday there a while back and I love the blushing buttercup cocktail they have!

Easter Brunch, first visit in 4 years (Fiancée loves it). It was fab! The chicken sausage omelette was huge & Delicious (lasted 2+ days and I'm a big eater). Her eggs Benedict great too! Reasonable prices, good service. Want to go back!

We must've come on the wrong day, or maybe ordering breakfast at dinner time is not a good idea here.
The french toast seems as thought it was soaked in the egg batter as all you could taste was mushy eggs. Yuck! I didn't realize it until I took a bite of my kids meal and asked why he didn't say anything...he just didn't want to waste the food! Grrrrr
The side bacon was cold, even some of the bacon grease had already started to solidify when it was delivered to our table.
The best thing besides the water was the cup of oatmeal. That was really hot, so you had to let that sit for a little before enjoying it.
The sad part about to top it off, they no longer serve cornbread! :(
Sadly, not a good visit this time around. Hopefully next time we decide to come it'll be better.
Be careful when ordering the French toast.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jun 15, 2019Previous reviewTypically we come here and things are fine, but we didn't have that luck this time around. I ordered the Linguica Eggs Benedict and I got an Eggs Benedict with Linguica on the side, burnt hash browns and fruit that was old...yuck. When asking the girl for something else instead of the "not fresh" fruit, she said she can give me sliced tomatoes , I already have that in my eggs Benedict why would I want a side of that. I thought it was off that the Linguica was on the side but eh, no big deal I'll mix it up all the same. The food was cold, but alright I guess since I was hungry. The artichoke was good and cold when close to the end we find the sticker that is on all produce in the markets chillin to be eaten in the scoop . These guys are doing great!
So, no fresh fruit or another side available other than tomatoes, no apology, or anything else for that matter - just an over priced check for cold blah food. Lol, I'm laughing cause it was such a joke going there and paying for this type of service. At least the coffee was hot. - Melly L.Concord, CA917444Oct 7, 2023Updated review
Ya know, I've been a patron to this business for many years. Aside from eating meals inside, getting food to go and bringing friends and family.... I also very regularly stop by to purchase a tub of their ranch dressing. It's so good. My family and I have been buying this from them for a few years now, always been about $5 plus tax. Today I went in to purchase as usual, suddenly it's $8 plus tax. For ranch?! The manager and employee both say it's because of the owner.
My problem with this is taking advantage of customers. You know you have good ranch, so you find a way to capitalize by raising the price 65% when people are already struggling to make ends meet. Good ol supply and demand. Typical corporate chain kind of bullshit. Profits profits profits. So after driving all the way down there, I refused to spend $8 on ranch dressing to go with our pizza. Out of principle. Cuz I don't believe in stepping on the little guy to get an inch higher.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 28, 2020Previous reviewThis is one of my husband and my favorite low-key places to eat. Although the atmosphere is a little more relaxed, we have always had a completely delicious meal here and can count on Buttercup for delivering fantastic food. Now that they are open again, we have gotten take out a few times and now they have some outdoor tables available if you'd like to get out of the house for a sit down meal. Our absolute favorites are the fried buffalo chicken sandwich and the French dips. Their ranch dressing is to die for. Try them!
