Ryan K. and I have been to Ariana Kabob twice so far and we enjoy all of the food that we have ordered during both visits. Last time, we went when the owner was there, and she gave us great recommendations on what to order:
Mantoo - Afghan-style dumplings with a creamy tomato and yogurt sauce--so good! I love dumplings from every culture, and just love seeing all the different cultural variations.
Qabuli Palau - The menu says "tender chunks of lamb" and isn't joking! The lamb is tender and moist and is served with a generous amount of rice, carrots, raisins, and spinach.
Super Kabob Combo - If you love meat and rice, definitely order this dish! This entree could easily serve two people. Ryan K. had to get the rice to go since the kabobs were so filling.
We also had some fresh-from-the-oven Afghan Naan.
So delicious! We'll be back :) -
I have visited Crave three times in the past six months, which is a good sign. All three times I've visited, I have been very pleased with what I ordered. The first two times I ordered the Popper burger--super messy but full of flavor. I'd recommend ordering that burger bunless.
Last week I ordered the Love Stinks burger--if you don't mind smelling like garlic going back to work, then definitely get this burger. I love that they have a variety of fries you can choose from as well--garlic parmesan is the popular flavor these days.
If you're up for more gastronomic delights, order a milkshake for dessert. You won't be disappointed.
Service has been status quo here, i.e., attentive servers and quick delivery of food (but not so quick that you wonder if the food has been sitting around for awhile...). They make the burgers fresh here--even the black bean patties (my vegetarian friend vouched for this fact).
Great lunch place in LoDo. Will definitely make you CRAVE more burgers :P10/9/2016 -
Orient Espresso is a fun and unique place to go to near Union Station. I like to come here weekday mornings to get a Breakfast Bao as my breakfast. A Breakfast Bao is a fun fusion breakfast item of a pork bao cut in half with scrambled eggs and cheese added to it--essentially a Chinese style breakfast sandwich. There's also sesame balls, which is a traditional Chinese snack, coffee (Ozo), espresso items, tea, plus Vietnamese style iced coffee.
If you have trouble finding Orient Espresso, it is next to Zoe Ma Ma (actually inside Zoe Ma Ma). Definitely a great place to visit especially if you're in the mood for a unique and tasty breakfast. -
I have visited dentists in Virginia, California, and in Denver, and City Center Dental Group is honestly the first office where I felt fully supported with my needs. Not sure if that's because all the other places I visited were status quo and City Center Dental Group is truly unique, or if dentists' offices have changed in the past two years since I last visited one (yes, oops!).
I received a full tour of the whole office from Jenna, was educated on the office's in-house dental insurance plan (a definite deal compared to the individual visit fees), received x-rays, a visit with Dr. Reed (who has a very soothing, calming voice), and a highly comprehensive examination and cleaning from the hygienist, Tammy.
Really, City Center Dental Group truly cares about each of its patients. I'm glad I chose this location for my dental health, because I know I am in good hands with Dr. Reed and his team.6/23/2016 -
Espresso Americano needs more love! They're located in the same/adjacent building as the McDonald's on the corner of 16th Street Mall and Cleveland Place.
A wonderful franchise (they source all their coffee beans from Honduras), Espresso Americano has a great selection of coffee beverages (and also delicious tea!). They also have a wide selection of breakfast and lunch items.
Plenty of seating inside and a nice little outdoor area, Espresso Americano definitely needs more love from coffee and tea lovers! Starbucks may be quick and convenient, but if you want a better cup of coffee with less of a crowd, visit Espresso Americano. -
New ramen place near DU! Since Ryan K. and I frequent this strip of restaurants/retail (thanks to Nova Yogurt), we have stopped in twice in the past week at The Ramen House.
Chinese-owned, The Ramen House serves several types of Japanese-style ramen bowls plus some Chinese noodle dishes. I have tried the Zhajiangmian and the Tonkatsu Ramen: both full of flavor, well presented, and very filling. Ryan and I can easily take home leftovers each time we visit!
The first time we came, we ordered the furikake fries. I was a bit disappointed since the fries came out with a very light drizzle of sauce and bonito flakes. I wouldn't recommend this appetizer.
Service has been good and very accommodating: last time we went, the credit card machine went on the fritz for some reason! They were very willing to give us a discount for the inconvenience, but we paid in full in cash (with an extra tip); hey, technology issues happen!
Will be back more often than not ;) Hope The Ramen House sticks around for awhile!
P.S. Not sure why there are some rather negative reviews about the place. We've enjoyed the food a lot! -
(First review of 2016 and it's almost the end of March....oops)
Ryan K. and I went to Leña within the first couple of days of 2016. Leña is tucked away somewhat quietly in the bustle of Broadway, but we read up on previous reviews and were intrigued by the place.
Ambiance: low lighting, can be date night material or come with friends/family. The other customers were a good mix of all of the above.
Service: Attentive, speedy, accommodating. The servers made sure our glasses of water were always topped off and food came out in a reasonable amount of time.
Price: Fair, roughly about $10-$15 per person, depending on if you're sharing plates as well.
Food/value (the most important part): Unique offerings with generous portions--Ryan K. and I ordered three shared plates (morcilla, empanadas, chilaquiles) and a side of pan de yuca, thinking we would probably order more--we had to force ourselves to eat the last bite of chilaquiles because the other plates were already so filling. Seems that you can't go wrong with whatever you *do* order on the menu--lots of diverse flavors in every dish. Yes, there *are* tacos on the menu as well if you aren't ready to venture into more adventurous offerings, but the menu provides many options for every level of diner--from novice to foodie.
Would love to visit Leña again and try some of the other dishes. Highly recommended! -
After hearing, reading, and seeing so much about TOKIO from Gil A., Ryan K. and I finally got to stop in and check the place out. Interesting restaurant layout--I bet this place definitely fills up during peak dining hours.
Our server was attentive and quick to get our orders in. I ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen, while Ryan ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen (his favorite!).
I loved how much was in my Spicy Miso Ramen: fish cake, four thick cuts of pork, veggies, and of course, delicious ramen noodles and a flavorful broth. I admit, though, there wasn't too much spice in the broth....until the very last sip! Still a great bowl of ramen, though. Ryan enjoyed the Tonkatsu Ramen as well; we both left very satisfied.
I can't wait to come back and try the curry ramen and other dishes: they make their desserts in house! I wanted to try the green tea tiramisu, but I was so full after my bowl of ramen, that I had to pass on that offer.
Pricing is reasonable, about average especially for the neighborhood TOKIO is in. Looking forward to our next visit! -
Admittedly, I have not visited Alaska yet, but I figure visiting The 49th gets me a little closer to a trip to Alaska....
Ryan K. came to The 49th on a snowy, cold Denver evening, which we found fitting for our first time to The 49th. The place stays very busy, even early on a Friday night--however, just put your name on the waitlist and you'll surely be seated in a relatively short amount of time.
There's a feeling of coziness at The 49th that really makes you feel like you have been transported to a small mountain town--cozy atmosphere/lighting, friendly servers and bartenders, and delicious food = a GREAT combo.
We waited about ten minutes and then got seats at the bar. Beer lovers, rejoice: a decent number of both Alaskan and local Coloradan beers are on tap. Our bartender and server, Josh, is also the owner of The 49th: very kind and accommodating guy.
For food, we ordered:
- The Deadliest Catch Crab Dip: a very creamy and rich dip, served with raw veggies and warm baguette slices. Flavorful and filling! $9.95
- Kenai Crab Cake Sandwich: Yum! I haven't had such a delicious crab cake sandwich in quite awhile. Tasty 49th sauce on the crab cake and the price is really reasonable for the amount of crab cake: $12.95
- Cordova Chipotle Glazed Salmon: Ryan K. ordered this and thoroughly enjoyed the entree. The salmon flaked perfectly and was served over aromatic rice and veggies.
We'll definitely return to The 49th soon again! -
Ryan K. and I had driven by the old location of Taste of Thailand so many times that when we saw that they moved closer to Evans Avenue, we finally decided to try the restaurant out.
We went around dinnertime on a Sunday evening: a little busy, but service was still good. However, we were disappointed with the food, which lacked flavor overall. Ryan ordered one of the curries and it did not have any real spice to it (despite the fact that he had asked for a medium spice level). I was intrigued by the "street food" fried rice, and was disappointed with the tiny portion size and how uninspiring the actual dish was. What made this kind of fried rice any different from fried rice at any other restaurant? The price for the fried rice entree was also not a great value, considering the serving size.
Maybe we didn't try the right entrees, but we've had better Thai food at other Denver area establishments (reviews to come for those other restaurants). Maybe we'll give Taste of Thailand another try? Or maybe not.
