Another great event! Loved the she crab soup and hush puppies. Thanks Yelp and Oyster House!

Love this place for lunch! It's not exactly cheap, but it is really tasty. My favorites are the herbed cream cheese + veggie sandwich with Greek lemon chicken soup. I've also had the broccoli cheese, She crab, and chili soups, and a couple of grilled cheeses. Healthy portions, and they have a drive thru! If you're in a hurry you can call ahead and just drive up.

Outstanding music venue! Some of the best live music I've experienced - classic funk, soul, R&B, popular covers, all with beats that make you want to boogie! The place has an intimate feel, with a hip throwback vibe to earlier times. The downside is that on weekends can get pretty crazy, and you'll probably have to wait in line. I recommend going on a week night if you want to enjoy the music without a massive crowd.

With so many soul food options around, it's hard to get excited when a new one pops up. Gillie's impressed. I had the catfish, my friend had the fried pork chop. Combined, our sides were mashed potatoes, fries, salad, collard greens, corn bread, and baked beans. We were happy with all of it! (The salad was super basic, fyi.) The breading was what impressed me the most - light and crispy, not overly heavy or greasy, and I could actually taste the fish, which was very flavorful. A lot of soul food I've had is so salty and heavy I can't hardly tell what meat I'm eating. The collard greens had good flavor without being too vinegary. And the corn bread was a nice surprise - not dried out like a lot of sides I get.
The decor is super cute - grandmother themed, with a whole wall of grandma photos, and each table had a little card with the word "grandmother" in a different language. It was pretty quiet, as was our server who was nice, but didn't provide much insight into what we might want to order. I'd love it if the music was pumped up *just* a tad to add a little more ambience. Ultimately, the food spoke for itself.

Great laid-back funky dive bar scene without being too terribly hipster or making me feel like I had to shower when I got home. And some killer eats! Service was friendly and quick and we also caught a great band. Wish I loved closer so I could make this place my regular spot.

My last pair of contacts tore and I was able to get a same-day appointment on a Saturday. I did have to wait close to 30 minutes to be seen once I checked it, but it was worth it to be able to have contacts for the weekend. The office is bright and clean, and the technician, Dr. Monarch, and sales rep were all very professional. My exam was $130 and included both contacts and glasses Rx. They do charge an additional fee for a new kind of retinal scan (I forget if it was $35 or $65 - I want to say $65), or you can do the old school dilating drops for free (but you'll have to wear those funny sunglasses for a couple hours).

The sales rep listed the total cost of my visit and the cost of a 6mo and 1yr supply of contacts for me to choose from. I really appreciated the plain and upfront accounting.

I've been here for lunch a handful of times, but each time has been "Meh." I would suggest this place for its utlility over the food - large groups, kids, and the bar. It's convenient and a good place for meetings bc it's not usually crowded. It is clean, the concept is cute, the music is usally pretty good (background speaker music, not live music), and for sports people there are several tv's at the bar. Also lots of outside seating and great play area for groups with kids. But the food is just "OK," and sometimes not even that good, for the price. I do like The Brussels Sprouts and the burgers, and I had an amazing seasonal cocktail on one visit. The shrimp is way too salty - I won't order it again. The Kale Caesar sounds great in theory, but it's really difficult to eat. It's a generous serving of ALL kale leaves. Kale is a tough leaf to chew. I quit after about 4 bites and took the rest home. They should cut it with more pickled red onions (very tasty), cranberries, pomegranate seeds, and/or carrots (something!) and try shredding it super thin. The Shrimp Lettuce Rolls were a major disappointment: you have to assemble them yourself. It's a plate of lettuce leaves, shrimp, and corn salsa. Not very exciting. It should say that on the menu. Anyway, not trying to be all negative, but there is definite room for improvement, which I would love to see because I always WANT to really like this place.

This is a lovely, cozy place tucked in the back corner of a James Island shopping center. I've had dinner both inside and at the outside bar area. Both times were very enjoyable. The servers are knowledgeable and attentive, great wine selection, and yummy food in generous portions. I've a had a couple of pasta dishes that didn't quite have that "wow" factor, but were tasty nonetheless. Other dishes, however, have been exactly what I expected and left me craving more!

Great spot! Yes, the burger is as good as they say. And the garlic & herb fries are SO GOOD!! Pretty much everything about this place is on point - decor makes you feel like you've stepped back in time, bartenders know their stuff, and as previously nited, the food is great.

Good beer, decent ambience, "OK" food (stick to appetizers), disappointing service. My boyfriend lives right around the corner, so we come here out of convenience. Whenever I've ordered from the bar, I'm made to feel as though I'm putting the bartender out by making her do her job. We came for brunch once - service was beyond slow, my eggs were missing from my plate (eggs were the feature of my dish!), and I ended up having to grab condiments and an extra set of silverware myself. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles and the chicken was burnt. We came in at 8:30 tonight, and in spite of the sign that said the kitchen closes at 9, they wouldn't let us order a salad. On the plus side, the tacos are pretty tasty and a decent size, and you can pour your own beer from taps installed at the tables - although in not sure if they are in use anymore. Outside bar/biergarten is nice as well. Credit where credit is due.
