    • Hair Salons, Nail Salons, Waxing

      Dupont Circle, Washington, DC

      Aug 7, 2021

Of all the nail salons in DC, this is the worst. It is dim and crowded- esp for a pandemic, and the quality of the work is honestly not good.

The first time I went with a friend because I had gotten a gift card. I got a gel mani and pedi. As I went to pay, they claimed they had never seen the gift card before (clearly has the name and address on the card) and they refused to "ask the boss" they kept referencing about the gift card. So incredibly shady, but ok cool, I paid. Whatever. Then the pedi chipped after two days and the pink gel color completely came off in three. I went back in when I could after a week because the pink gel on my finger nails was now completely yellow, and asked them to fix. What a nightmare y'all- they started by saying it was my fault the color came off. Then they called over multiple other techs (causing a scene) who all chimed in (also talking to each other in other languages- which was comical because I am tri-lingual and could understand them.. real classy) and they then called out the woman who had originally done my nails. They called her up from the back, again an unnecessary scene, and said she would redo the nails for the same original price but would give me 10 dollars off. Huh? She blamed me for "not coming in sooner" and that was the reason the nails looked bad. I mean, what?

Okay so fast forward, she starts taking off the polish, and goes to talk trash at the front desk- I sat watching the whole thing in the reflection of the protective glass at the manicure station. I thought about walking out but I needed that awful manicure off my fingers. At this point, I was so uncomfortable I absolutely wasn't even going to mention the chipped toes. So, she finishes the nail fix, and TWICE, tells me I need to come back faster if the nails don't last, again reiterating it's my fault. What in the weird customer service world?

I walked out laughing at how bad that whole thing was, and will absolutely not be back. Go up the street to Cosmopolitan friends, don't waste your money and your time with poor quality and bad customer service.

      Park View, Washington, DC

      First to Review

I can't believe I'm the first to review this gem, as owner (Sue) has been serving Park View for years!

This is my go-to bodega; it's the only shop in the neighborhood that sells liquor, and it's got a surprisingly awesome selection of craft and domestic beers, wine, and seltzers! It has also the house essentials: paper towels/TP, incense, snacks, soap, etc. Sue is the only staff person I've met and she's super sweet, loves to get to know customers, especially locals. Let her know you're a neighbor, she'll love it.

Pro-tip: there's ample street parking in front, and don't let the window gate fool you that it's closed- Sue is using it to protect the store during riot/looting times.

    • Breakfast & Brunch, Bakeries

      Hillsboro West End, Nashville

      Apr 30, 2020

Personally, I don't understand the hype that leads folks to wait hours in a line that winds around the block for pancakes, but they are indeed huge and delicious. They have a pretty big seating area with classic American style decor, and the staff is friendly which makes for a nice brunch spot. It is just down the road from Vanderbilt, and draws a large tourist crowd- locals beware.

Pro-tip: if you want to try and avoid the wait, go on a weekday! As a Hillsboro resident, I can assure you the line doesn't look as crazy Monday-Friday.

    • Tacos

      Greenwood, Nashville

      Apr 30, 2020

This is the kind of hole in the wall Mexican food we need in Nashville. With the influx of commercial/corporate biz flooding the city, this place is a breath of fresh, local air. It's a no frills, cash only, Mexican joint that is always my go to when the Pharmacy has a stupid long wait across the street and I can convince the crew to mosey. Cool vibe inside, good Mexican-American grub.

Pro-tip: snag a seat outside while a friend orders inside. There's only a few, but it makes for a great lunch with nice weather and people watching in East Nasty.

    • Coffee & Tea

      Adams Morgan, Washington, DC

      Mar 5, 2020

It's about time this part of Adams Morgan finally got a coffeehouse!! This sweet lil shop is right on the corner of 18th and Wyoming, directly across from the tennis courts and Cosmo Nail Salon. It can be hard to find, but walk up the steps under the green awning and you'll find it through the door on the right! The interior is bright and clean, and there are house plants sitting in the giant front window.

I've been a few times already because the coffee is delish and the owners are super down-to-earth and fun to talk with. You'll be greeted by either Kyle or Jeffrey, who will immediately offer you free samples of their many cold brew flavors. They also have fresh daily pastries if you're hungry, and bar/table seating both inside and outside. In addition, I love that they are leaders of environmental sustainability, as the to-go cups are either glass (for iced) or biodegradable (for hot).

This place will absolutely become a staple of my daily routine!

Pro-tip: try the complimentary fruit water! So yummy.
