An incredibly lovely staff helped me cater a lunch for 12 people - quick, easy, and so delicious!

Thinking that at some point I said to him that I wanted my beer "for here" rather than "to go," the guy at the counter impulsively uncapped my bottle. After I explained that we in fact needed our bottles to go, this guy insisted that I could not take the beer out of the store opened. In the end I ended up paying $12 for beer that I couldn't drink, which left me robbed of both my good spirits and my hard-earned dollars. Adding insult to injury, this exchange caused a wave of sadness to rush over me - this place smelled of cleaning chemicals, the patrons looked forlorn, the staleness felt endemic to the neutered condos that grew out of its back. Fleeing the scene, I found refuge in the liquor store next door where I received a $4 bottle and a smile from the kind man who has been working there for a decade. What a mistake I made thinking that low lighting brought better beer! In the end, dignity and decency won out - as should the folks who have been supporting the Oakland community for many years. And they won't rob you, which is nice. In fact, I am going to write them a lovely review right now.
