I returned in Aug. 2021 while driving back across country after dropping my kid off at college. They were empty because of Covid, but I had a great gyro sangwich. Would eat here any time in while Columbia, SC. It was fun to return and I wish them well as things reopen. I want to hit that steam table of lamb shanks with meat falling off the bone.
We only ate here once when snoozing at a nearby motel on a road trip, but my taste buds are honed by having eaten Mediterranean cuisine all over the world (well, the UK, Europe, North Africa, Canada and the US). What we had was authentic and delicious! My son had the Lamb Gyro and I had the Vegetarian Dinner. His sandwich, beautifully spiced and tasty! My falafel, babaganoush, hummus, what they call cooked salad (pureed red pepper & tomato sauce) were all flavorful and the pita that came with my plate was piping hot and WAY better than 90% of-it's produced in the USA. Boeshreen absolutely ranks with my other favorite Med. restaurants around the US: Mediterranean House/Pita Inn in Skokie, (practically raised there); Carousel in Van Nuys, Maroush in Hollywood and M'Zaar in Toronto.
I called in an order but the place is a large deli with steam tables brimming with all sorts of great options like their Tagines, Syrian soups and Lamb Shanks falling off the bone. I would be back here in a New York minute except we're on our way to New York (in a minute).
Last add: the little Pistachio pastries are mind-blowing. Not the Baklava (I bet they're good too), the little dense hockey pucks full of toasted nuts. Might have to grab a few on the way outta town!
Great Southern BBQ Joint. Easy parking. Found it in Aug. 2021 on my phone while driving back to Cali from ATL. The whole restaurant looked up at me when I walked in after ordering at the window. No masks in sight (Alabama) and Delta was peaking so I sat outside at one of the picnic tables. But the ladies in the kitchen were a hoot and were super friendly. Unfortunately the birthday card I sent my niece from the Jasper Post Office never made it...
I had a great experience today with Ben and his assistant, forgot his name, sorry... Everyone looks alike wearing masks... Anyway, the duo found the ripe and rank, seriously dead rat but quick, and took away all the nasty, nested in, pooped in insulation he had called home in better times. Sorry Mr. Rat, we don't make ventilators in your size. So back to the gory details: Ben, et al. disinfected the death zone with a bleach solution and they vacuumed up all the gnarly debris. It's now almost 10pm and the smell is 99 and 44/100ths gone, give or take a whiff. Sayonara, Rattus Norvegicus, or whatever you answer to. Bravo ACAT!

I hate to trash something that had so much effort behind it, but the script wouldn't even make a competent movie. The moon landing is as epic, fascinating and awe inspiring a story as there is, but this show dragged it into dullsville. Admittedly I saw the 2nd night preview, but even if the cast loosens up and finds natural performances, the writing doesn't give them fully formed characters. The visual effects are effective, but without a compelling story, the show feels more like it should be a 30-40 minute immersive experience at the Air and Space museum with elementary school kids as the target audience. I applauded the actors efforts, because they did work hard to pull it off. But I don't know how this production will get away with charging $215 for premium tickets with unknown actors and uncomfortable seats that are too high for a 5'10" man to rest his feet comfortably on the floor. How much is Disneyland? $140? If I had spent the insane sum of $860 for the 4 of us I would be absolutely furious. Even the 50 bucks a head I spent felt steep.
It's only an outlet in the sense that it contains a large inventory of off-brand stuff that is unlikely to sell. On top of that, high prices that can easily be beaten online and on sales towards the end of the season (like now at the end of February). The brands they have are not all crap, just hard to find other places (Descente, killtec, Volkl jackets & shells). I didn't see any Gore Tex and very few helmet-compatible hoods, which definitely dates the inventory. A few diamonds in the rough, like undies, layers and a headliner/neck gaiter at 2 bucks less than Amazon... But for serious equipment like skis, boots and outerwear? Nah. For example: this years Volkl Kendo - 170 bucks more than Backcountry. Last years Volkl Kendo - 70 bucks more than the few new examples online, neither including bindings. Maybe you're supposed to haggle? I did hear a very knowledgable sales guy explain how to buy an easy-maneuvering snowboard for a beginner. And the people are very nice, but they must know there's a ton of stuff that will never leave the store...
