Apr 6, 2024No hobbies in the lobby! There was lots of small scale, inexpensive furniture arranged in thematic displays on the way into the store. I was expecting an art supply type store, but this is more of a discount store. Think one step down from K Mart and one step up from the Dollar Store.
It is, however, the only store left in town that has fabric on bolts. Gone are the days of rifling through piles of remnants at Beverly's and walking away with supplies for diverse projects from upholstery to costumes. Michael's still has sewing notions, yarn and thread, but no fabric.
The staff was friendly enough, and in my granny top with lace trim, my hair in a bun, and my rimless "granny glasses," I fit right in with the mostly North County crowd of customers.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0

Mar 30, 2024Previous reviewWhat kind of game are they playing at Dr. Gallardo's UCLA office? I got in as a new patient a year and a half ago after waiting six months for the office to open. Dr. Gallardo does listen and did address the issue I had at the time (sciatica). I was referred to nearby physical therapy which actually fixed the problem. However, when some of my leg pain continued from another issue, I called the office and was told by the staff that I would have to wait until my yearly physical to see the doctor, and that I was only allowed one visit per year. I waited patiently, but meanwhile had COVID, and went to an urgent care center because "I could only see my doctor once a year." They did have to call Dr. Gallardo in order to prescribe PAXLOVID, because she has my medical records. There was no suggestion of a follow up visit from the Dr. Then the office called and cancelled my annual physical, postponing it until April of 2024 (seven months later than originally scheduled). Again, I waited patiently and then last week, they called to postpone that appointment and schedule one in May with another doctor whom they say is taking over Dr. Gallardo's patients. The sad thing is, this isn't an isolated event, two of my friends have also had almost exactly the same scheduling issues.
Mar 31, 2024Updated reviewThis restaurant has become a favorite for so many reasons! The heated patio is a comfortable spot to watch all the excitement on the runway. Even though the airplanes can be loud, it is fascinating to see them in action!
The menu is also a strong draw. Lots of selection, so everyone is happy, and great portions when the food arrives. They also have a decent choice of deserts, which makes this a natural spot for celebration meals.
We came recently with an old friend and sat on the small patio. Our friend chose the French Dip sandwich, and my buddy got the Wright burger, with sweet potato fries, a reliable favorite. I enjoyed the Prawn Cobb salad with a generous pour of Sauvignon Blanc.
We go to lunch a bit late, and always have plenty of time to talk and chat while we enjoy our food!
I also need to mention how very professional the greeters and wait staff are here. We always get friendly attentive service and are smoothly seated at this busy restaurant, which serves the nearby airport. There are free parking spots in the nearby lot if you are going to the restaurant, and if those happen to be full, you can get a parking pass from the Host at the front of the restaurant.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Jan 13, 2024Previous reviewIt is always an experience to eat out on the sheltered patio here and watch the airplanes take off and land. I recently brought an ex-pilot, my former flight instructor, here to celebrate the New Year, and we enjoyed a memorable meal.
We parked in the ample free parking in the lot adjacent to the restaurant. With SLO rates topping $4.00 per hour, one of my new considerations is finding places with free parking that is close to the restaurant!
We were shown a nice table right near the window and proceeded to order. I got a glass of Sauvignon Blanc to accompany my favorite prawn Club Salad, which I often refer to as a "breakfast salad" since it had both bacon and eggs in it. My pal got a luscious burger and a glass of Modelo, his go-to beer.
It is a bit loud with all the landing and taking off going on, and it was a busy day right after Christmas, but this is also a perfect place to take kids, since they can watch the planes and walk down the gated ramp and look out on the runway. They also have new protective shades on the outside windows, perfect for keeping the patio cozy and rain off the diners when it rains.
The food servings were generous and tasty, and the service was friendly and attentive. Even though this restaurant is located at the airport, it has always been a locals hangout, and has that warm welcoming feeling!
We had a very relaxing time, and eating in this atmosphere brought back fun memories of trips to Santa Paula airport for ice cream! Flock of Canadian geese and mountains in the background make for a scenic ambience. Two outdoor patios provide great plane watching. Creative specials add nightly variety to a broad selection of family favorites!
We enjoyed seafood pasta Alfredo and Chicken Marsala in our recent visit. The garlic bread with the pasta had us wanting more and the fettuccine was liberally strewn with shrimp and salmon. The Marsala was comfort food at its best. A very satisfying meal for travelers or locals partaking of the gems of the Central Coast! It's not just a restaurant, it's an experience!Aug 12, 2022Previous reviewWe were in a quandary about where to eat our breakfast lunch combo. Then we remembered that the Spirit of SanLuis serves both at once. Nowadays there is ample free parking and the views of the aircraft taking off and landings adds a thrill to any meal.
Airport restaurants are often convenient because they do serve constantly and have a variety of meals at all hours. We enjoy the aeronautical decor and the fresh air on the patios as well .
I ordered an old favorite, grilled prawn salad which is an energized twist on a Cobb salad. Cobb salad is as close as I will ever get to eating traditional English breakfast food like eggs and bacon, so the addition of creamy garlic dressing and seafood is a magnet for me.
They also serve Tangent Sauvignon Blanc which is a local vineyard a few miles away and well worth a stop if you are visiting SLO.
My husband got the Amelia special breakfast which is a monster English style breakfast sandwich on sourdough bread with eggs, ham and three cheeses.
There is some noise from the arriving and departing flights but that just adds exciting fun and turns a regular meal into an event!Dec 12, 2021Previous reviewSo happy we could make reservations for a party of eight for a Spirit of San Luis Restaurant birthday lunch! It's all about the air show going on outside, and with two active little boys in our party, this entertainment seemed to fill the bill.
We got a great table for eight right on the patio, which is kind of sheltered outdoor dining with a great view of the runway and air control tower! It was a super busy Sunday and lots of light airplane traffic made for a fun diversion.
Spirit of San Luis had the choices we wanted, everything from burgers, to fried shrimp and salads, so there was somethinig for everyone. There is also a children's menu printed on a white paper placemat that came with a set of crayons to keep the boys busy while they chose their meals. The mac and chese and chicken tenders with chips proved good selections for them.
I got the Prawn Cobb salad, which has a creamy green garlicky dressing, while my Mom enjoyed the fried shrimp with onion rings. My husband got a beutifully done burger, while my son dug into a hearty ham and swiss sandwich.
As we were celebrating double same day birthdays, we got an assortment of treats to celebrate!! Banana cake with cream cheese icing, a warm Brownie with vanilla ice cream, and apple crumble with vanilla ice cream! The brownie was the equal of any lava cake I have ever tasted and twice the size.
The patio was full all the while we were there, with diners enlivened by the comings and goings of the small planes. The perfect place for a sunny Saturday afternoon in San Luis!!May 21, 2021Previous reviewWe made it back to the Spirit of San Luis yesterday for an long overdue indoor/outdoor lunch. We always loved the view of the arriving and departing airplanes, and the easy access to the restaurant. We parked in the very close handicapped space for my 93-year old Mom, then easily made our way into the restaurant. The restaurant is near the OLD airport, which reminds me of an Art Deco disco, but that means that there is ample parking. Look for the spaces marked "Spirit of San Luis."
They were busy at 1pm and we were seated inside, but since this place is all about the view of the runway, I was a "nudge" and we grabbed the first patio table that became available. The indoor/outdoor patio is perfectly sited, away from the winds, and with a spectacular view of the runway. If you don't like airplanes, opt for an indoor table. We counted up five pilots in the immediate family, and we were dining with my former flight instructor, so we are aviation buffs!
The menu is newly updated, and now has a wide range of salads, as well as the burgers that the rest of my family craves. My Mom ordered the Cali Burger with home made potato chips and my pal ordered the Club Sandwich with red cabbage salad and a glass of Modelo. I got the Prawn Cobb salad and a glass of the Sauvignon Blanc. We got great service from the host and the waitress, who were timely but never intrusive.
We had to wait a while for the order, but had so much fun watching the planes come and go that the time passed quickly. One plane rolled right up to the restaurant, and the pilot ascended a ramp to have lunch at the restaurant. It reminded me of flights from the valley to Santa Paula for ice cream when I lived in LA. We also had fun reading the old newspapers about LIndbergh, and my Mom said that she had seen him land on his return flight to the US (living history).
I know that I was seated too close to the home made potato chips, which were tantalizing, and my salad was tastily coated with an almost Caesar dressing, which highlighted the shrimp. Mom finished up her meal with ice cream. With the departure of the lunch crowd, the patio quieted down and we really admired airport ambience.
We look forward to becoming frequent flyers at this restaurant!Feb 19, 2019Previous reviewHaving dined here many times and enjoyed watching the airplane take-offs and landings, we decided to try the new menu when my brother flew in from Texas. I knew it had taken him a full day to get here, and suspected he would be hungry. The restaurant is behind the new terminal, and parking is free!
We liked the way that they had taken down a wall, and opened the restaurant up so all the tables now have a view of the runway, and the Arrival and Departure Schedule.
There are some great new updated offerings here, and we were delighted to try the new salads and sandwiches. My brother and I each got the Grilled Prawn Cobb, which I have never seen on another menu for $13.50 and were delighted to receive 5 large prawns nestled amid the frech lettuce, avacado, and hardboiled egg. I requested crackers on the side, as bread is not automatically served. (It might be a good idea to offer something for the table, as people arriving on flights are usually starving- sourdough bread and olive oil?).
My husband's fried chicken sandwich was rich and crispy, and the accompanying potato salad had flecks of sprightly dill enlivening it.
We enjoyed quick and attentive service, and are anticipating returning for brunch.
Mar 30, 2024This MacDonald's served as a very pleasant pit stop on our drive down to Santa Barbara. With the Goleta rest areas perpetually closed, this conveniently located fast food place is a find.
It has one of the largest, and easiest to navigate parking lots I have seen at a McDonald's, with green pepper trees along the edge. It would be easy if you are driving a truck or RV to move through it and find a big parking space.
The order came up quickly, the fries were hot and fresh, and our chicken sandwiches didn't look like someone threw them together from across the room (like they usually do). They were also still serving Egg McMuffins later in the day.
Bathrooms are nice and clean, and spacious since they are all gender! This will be a go to on future trips up and down the coast!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
Mar 30, 2024Okay, so yeah, our nerd brains won out and, lured by the $7500 tax deduction, we started sniffing around the Tesla dealership in San Luis.
That joint is jumping!! Every time we went in, there were people milling around looking at the features on the Tesla models.
We were greeted cordially by Corey, who explained all the features of the cars and the financing in a matter of fact and very transparent way.
We went to look at the new Model 3, but decided the larger Y was the one for us! One odd thing is that if you lease a car, you can't buy it at the end of the lease, so we took that into consideration.
You do most of the looking and buying online, and Corey helped us search for the model we wanted. They don't deliver the cars to San Luis yet, so we would have to drive to Santa Barbara or Sunnyvale to pick one up. If you pick a model that someone else has cancelled on, you also get a better price, and since our choice was fairly generic (white with black tire rims) we found one also immediately in Santa Barbara at a great price!!
Within two weeks the model had arrived in Santa Barbara, and we set up an appointment for a Friday afternoon pick up. We got insurance over the phone first, then made our journey to SB.
Very friendly staff, and we were assigned a nice guy who made sure the vehicle was ready (complete with a big red bow)! We were given time to look over the car, and we had a check list we printed from the web to give us specific items to check. The car was fully charged and looked roadworthy, and we had fun tooling back up the coast with a nice stop at the MacDonald's in Buellton!
We are loving the car with its perky little space ship like hum! The car needed a little check up the next day, and the service department whizzed through the issue to get us back on the road! All in all, best car buying experience ever!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
