Excellent place to stay. We stayed here with a group September 27th and 28th. The decor was exceptional as was our room. The front desk was very pleasant, courteous and helpful. I didn't read the small sign above our ac so I ended up popping a breaker . Not only was our ac was affected(sorry), but our whole zone was without air. I called down to the front, and what I thought would be a huge ordeal actually was rather funny bc I was honest and said I didn't read it until it started blinking CH 29. She immediately came upstairs. Then said oh no... I have to call my boss to find out how to fix it. 10 minutes later, we were back in business! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

So... we went here for date night Oct 4th. The decor was very nice and everything pertained to Texas with a lot of historical significance. However, we felt rushed by our waitress. We ordered drinks and an appetizer, but before the appetizer even came out we were asked two times if we had any questions about the menu... to which the answer both times was the same "no." My husband stated "we're just taking our time, it's date night." I wanted sweet tea but was told they don't make it for dinner. The appetizer was promptly brought out and it tasted great. Before we finished our appetizer the waitress came back and asked "are you going to order?" Feeling like we "had" to order then, we did. I ordered the 12oz ribeye with mashed potatoes and my husband had the 16oz ribeye with sauted asparagus. I felt it a bit rude that because we did not order a salad she picked up the salad forks from our table as we ordered. However, I like to use a smaller fork when I eat vs the huge fork provided or should I say left for us. We both order medium rare but the meat was more medium. Once we got our food, the waitress did not come back until she came to see if we wanted dessert. We ordered the chocolate mousse and Kentucky bourbon pecan pie! Excellent! Got the bill and noticed we were charged extra for the masked potatoes and asparagus. Our meals both came with a side(excluding the mac n cheese) so I'm not sure why we were charged, but could not ask because she never came back to the table. We will not return as I felt the food was overpriced for the amount served and the steak was not well seasoned for my taste. We will stick to Saltgrass from here on out, but great job on the decor and history of Texas.

I've been coming here since 1985(ish) and I have enjoyed it every time. We plan on making another trip to Surfside pretty soon and will visit here...again!

Every month I go to get my hair colored and I stop in here to grab some good. I have never had a complaint about service, food or cleanliness. It is a very quiet cafe like setting. I like the fact it is conveniently located. The staff are very friendly and attentive when it comes to refills.
