Simply came in because of who Roy Choi is. Ever since college, I would make trips to find where to Kogi truck is at right after my classes, some days its that same short rib burrito that would bring me back to life after a long night out. Back then, I used to come to Locol at least once or twice a week for a quick meal.

So this is my second time eating at Best Friend and I'm still not disappointed. Some restaurants after being successful for a while, the quality downgrades. BUUUT not here! Both times I've sat "inside" super casual, laid back atmosphere. But I honestly would've preferred being outside, with the chaotic atmosphere with the old school Korean liquor store vibes. Not to mention the slushies they got! Alcoholic slushies, with HEEEEM. Get the kalbi tacos, you won't regret it. It's literally what made him famous. The uni rice bowl is a no brainer, unless you're one of those people who don't like good food, or a vegan. Perfectly creamy and not too spicy, the quality of the uni was super amazing as well. One last thing, I might have been too turnt but I was simply amazed by their tempura. Our waiter explain to us that the water in the tempura is some sort of alkaline water from Japan, shipped specifically for the restaurant. I don't know what it was specifically but we ordered one more for the road after a satisfying meal. Perfectly battered and super crispy, and none of that oily gunk at the bottom! It srsly maintained it's crispiness hours later. Hours later meaning, the next morning after a long night at Omnia.

The address is 420, so you know its about to be lit. Everything in their menu is simple, flavors are everything but. Each morsel is organic, free range and local. How did I know? I frequent their Instagram page and they're always at Berkeley Bowl, so you know the rest.

So the place is in a little corner right next to Homeroom, order outside then get yourself situated in the little alley. The back seating area is v quaint where you can enjoy yourself with the group you came with or get cozy with the others around you. No matter what, you'll have yourself a great time. Fried egg taco is a must. Also tried out the beef picadillo taco & the mole de hongos(mushroom) taco, hands down amazing.

Did I mention that the fried egg taco is a must? Perfectly covered in chili oil greatness, sprinkled with flaky queso fresco, shrouded in cilantro. As you take your first bite, all of its yolky goodness oozes down into your tummy. Some splatter across your plate. Now its time to sop up some of its golden glory with that fresh half eaten tortilla that you have in your hand.

Another long awaited review, so I'll make this short and simple.
Pros: Yummy fresh buckwheat noodles, if they run out due to high demand, they just go make more plus you have a show to enjoy & watch. Doesn't matter if you get cold soba or hot soba, it'll still warm up your soul.
I always see people complaint how small the meal sets are. But each set is enough to fill you up but not too full. Always just right!
Almost all the accompaniment with each soba set has been perfectly crunchy tempura or well seasoned pickled items. Must get the tomago! Caps off the meal just right along with the broth.
& they've been so busy lately so hitting them up on Resy should save you some time.
Cons: food & service wise, no complaints.
I'm just really confused where we should wait while waiting for a table. They have a bar area when you can get drinks to alleviate the pressure of too many people but half the time your sort of standing in front of some who's trying to enjoy their meal.

As a tasting menu, very well worth the price. Ambiance is v casual but elevated at the same time. It's either where you can grab a few drinks with a few friends or have a small intimate setting with your significant other. The staff are on point, caring about the little details to your meal and preferences. No matter where you go, a must is always the buratta. This one is topped with Meyer lemon peel and a bushi so perfect for a creamy but not too salty perfection. The tasting menu itself was very fun, just do it. While their meals are amazing, tasting menus is where it's at! The chef even added this shrimp toast which resembles almost like a belachan jelly of sorts.

Small humble shop, super fresh fish prepared in small batches. Omakase bento is the one everyone should opt for. It includes select dishes of the day as well as new flavors only select to them. I really appreciated how fresh each piece of fish was and how the flavor profiles of each slice. Even in the bowl that we had, most bowls from other places seem to be one tone, but not there!
