I'm just here for the food. No, seriously.

This is specifically a review for the CVS Minute Clinic at this location. I drove from out past Milwaukee to take a Rapid Test at this location that was required for work. Due to absolutely terrible weather, I knew I was running late 1.5 hours beforehand, so I called the location to inform them and to see whether I could reschedule. This was substantially out of the way for me, so it would have been wonderful to at least know whether they could see me prior to the appointment.

The phone system is absolutely appalling - it transferred me across 5 departments, and I already knew not to select any of the COVID options as that transfers you to a completely different call center and the transfer back simply means this location will put you on 20+ minute hold before disconnecting. After navigating through the options and asking to speak to a representative, then dialing 0, it left me with an automated message to check the website. Mind you, I had to do all of this while driving in a torrential downpour.

Finally, I arrived 10 minutes late and they, of course, wouldn't see me. I ended up having to frantically locate another location and couldn't find a time within the next 6 hours within 50 miles. While I completely understand it's my fault for arriving late, I could have at least spoken to a human being and saved myself the headache.

As my husband said, "It took 40 min for them to get the order almost completely wrong."

We came in on Friday evening at 7:45 and walked out with our to-go order 35 min later, upset toddler in tow.

The chicken and avocado I paid extra for on my salad weren't there (the beets and garbanzo beans I had taken off were) and my husband's burger was also missing avocado. The burger was lukewarm, which is unsurprising, as I watched it sit on the counter for 10 min without a lid while the woman organizing the orders figured out she needed to pack our cup of soup.

It's unfortunate because the food has the potential to be good - a rare find for a healthy food fast casual joint.

Maybe it's because I work in the Loop, but I definitely don't get the comments around this place being expensive - fresh food isn't cheap, and $9 for a salad is a downright bargain. Have you been to Sweetgreen?

The woman at the counter immediately welcomed me when I walked in and walked me through their ordering process. Their tomato bisque was, bar-none, the best tomato bisque I have had in recent memory. The salads were fresh and had interesting ingredient blends and the infusions are so, so good.

They even put my soup in with the half salad I ordered for someone else so they could charge me less. I am so delighted this place exists in the burbs!

I'm just really disappointed with my recent experience here - my husband and I really like some of the other Yolk locations, so I was looking forward to a morning omelette. Unfortunately, the person who took my order was curt and had none of the accommodating warmth I've experienced at other Yolks.

I asked for a California omelette without cheese, as I have a dairy allergy, and requested to sub turkey sausage for the cheese. This is apparently a big no-no here (although I've done it many times at other locations), and of course my omelette came absolutely smothered in cheese. So I ended paying almost $20 for an omelette that I could eat maybe half off, after scraping off the non-contaminated bits the best I could.

Lesson learned: the Eastman Egg Company is a mere 2 min-walk away upstairs and half the price.

I think that the majority of the positive reviews for this place come from a place of nostalgia, rather than an objective review of the product.

The service was lackluster; I understand the young ladies working the counter have to serve hundreds of cones and cups of custard a day, but please try to bring at least a modicum of positive energy to your service. You're serving custard on a boardwalk, for Pete's sake.

The custard was nothing to write home about either: overly sweet and runny, without the depth of flavor you would find in a truly rich custard. The orange flavor tasted fake. It reminded me of those Flintstones push pops my dad used to buy us at gas stations.

For what it's worth, my friends seemed happy with it.
