We recently returned for our third stay at the Jacob Swartz House and could not have been more pleased with our stay. Dave and Robin greeted us warmly and we found, delightfully, that the cottage was just the way we remembered it: super clean and charming with a nod to the history and heritage of the New Market area. Waking up the next morning to the captivating mountain view of the Shenandoah Valley the first floor bedroom offers should have been enough pleasure for one day; however, the breakfasts we were treated to were the frosting on the cake. The first day was a delectable seasonal veggie frittata with fresh fruit, coffee and juice. I did not try the bacon but my husband raved about it. The second day, when we requested a simpler breakfast, was homemade pancakes and local sausage with a choice of fresh fruit sauces and good strong coffee. The fresh cherry sauce was my choice and I was delighted. Portions are very large, no need to go looking for lunch after these breakfasts! This is our favorite place to unwind and although there is a television there, we never turn it on. If we got bored with the lovely seating area outside the cottage, which we did not, there are games, books, music and even a sketch pad to amuse us. In closing I will say that Dave and Robin make us feel right at home, we cannot wait to go back and would recommend the Jacob Swartz House to anyone looking for an alternative to a joyless hotel!
