  The staff is very unprofessional. Wouldn't recommend it. Try the Mag bar or any other bar for that matter.

  Owner was so rude. This guy has bourbon that you cant legally get in the state of Kentucky. Also has single barrel bourbon exclusive to places like our local liquor barn that they purchased to sell to there patrons sounds kinda fishy to me.  On top of that I went in there the other day and people were smoking in the building. Isn't that illegal. Final problem was the Rude owner named matt. This guy was so rude and acted like a know it all. I will not be returning.

  This place has a lot of cool events but the owner is such a hipster snob that it kills the enjoyment. He is rude and doesn't hesitate to treat a customer like crap if you don't measure up to his "cool" standards. I'm really surprised this place has managed to stick around. In Louisville (this is KY after all) there are tons of places to have a great whiskey or bourbon and they won't treat you like you're second-class. Take your money elsewhere.

  This place is not only a dump, with the bathroom (one unisex) being used for a storage area and, apparently, to wash the dishes. but the owner/bartender is incredibly rude.  While doing a beer tasting, we tried to joke with him and all we got were smart remarks.  In fact, we were told that he could do whatever he wanted to do, it was his bar.  This was after we were only trying to joke with him.
  
  As for the beer tasting, all the beers offered can be bought at your local grocery store, don't bother.  I got a smart comment on that also when I said that I don't like hoppy beers (I prefer more wheat beer) and I was told in a very condesending voice that's how you make beer, with hops.  I know that Einstein, I just don't like a lot of hops in my beer.  
  
  Now for the decor - or lack thereof.  We were told we would need a reservation for our beer tasting because they were going to be terribly busy.  Well, when you've only got six bar stools, it doesn't take long for the place to fill up.  We got there and there were four people there, all of whom were friends of the owner.  We ordered our tasting, and went to sit on the nasty, dirty benches and chairs offered in another part of the room and was told "there's no table service here, you'll have to come get this."  What?  There were four people there besides us, you couldn't bring our tastings to us?  Whatever.  
  
  When we took our glasses back up to the bar for our next tasting, he didn't even bother to rinse out the glasses or give us new ones.  He simply refilled the dirty ones, right on top of the previous beer!!! That's just wrong and probably not health department accepted.  I guess when you've only got six bar stools, you're not making enough money to afford more glasses or a sink behind the bar to wash them - you have to go to the bathroom to wash them and, well, I wouldn't want my glass back after him going behind any door to wash it.
  
  The place is run down, is dirty, the owner is a jerk, so just don't waste your time, don't bother, go someplace else, like Doc Crow's and have a good experience and a nice experience.

  The best whiskey selection I have ever seen in my life! And skee-ball!
  What a cool small business. Hard to believe this place isn't more beloved than it already is! How can you not respect a person who has clearly put so much of themselves and their passion into serving others? I watched a customer speak to the owner like he was their personal trained monkey and couldn't believe the owner didn't throw them out on the spot. Why are people so terrible to bartenders and service employees? Why do people think that just because they are spending $50 or $100 that they can treat someone like their servant? This place is a real Louisville gem, I hope it doesn't get washed away by COVID like so many great small businesses are.

  Visited this place over the weekend and was incredibly impressed with their selection and the crazy cool atmosphere and decorations. The sheer number of whiskeys available plus the amazing beer vending machine and the incredibly knowledgeable bartender made for a PERFECT whiskey drinking experience.
  Hope to get back to Kentucky soon and make a second stop at the Haymarket.

  We popped into this bar during a rainstorm thinking we would have a quick beer. But the charm of the place sucked us in. From the amazing retro nostalgia decor to the 400+ whiskeys on the shelves this place is one of a kind! I've never been anywhere that matches their selection, fun atmosphere or easy going dive bar nature. The selection is the most comprehensive I have ever seen. The bar even has its own house whiskey brand. An amazing 6.5 year old bourbon bottled in five different expressions from 101 to 120 proof!
  add in the fact that there are next to no bars operating in downtown louisville at the time of the pandemic and it turned out to be a great twist of fate that we popped in here!

  I'm psyched to have found this little hole in the wall/world class whiskey bar! The owner was engaging and fun, I learned more about whiskey in my hour with him than on any distillery tour! This place is a gem!

  Wonderful selection, highly knowledgeable staff and super relaxed enviroment. No pretension which is refreshing. By far the best whisky bar in Kentucky. I've been to Haymarket several times and consider it one of the best bourbon bars in the country. I am biased though... I love the place.
