What/Why:

For one night only, the city closes off 17th street around P street and JR's Bar and Grill so that drag queens in high heels can race down the street! This is the annual race of the drag queens in DC! The drag queens actually don't race until 9 pm but the crowds (and camera crews) start gathering at 6 pm. The actual race only lasts for a few minutes but then the street erupts as the crowds besiege the drag queens for photos.

This is a totally unofficial event that started in 1986. It's great fun! It's like a street carnival! This event happens only once a year (Tuesday before Halloween) so don't miss it!
