Very unfriendly front desk employees. The equipment was so so. Nothing exciting. When I cancelled my membership , it took them 2 months to deposit back into my account. I highly would not recommend this gym!

There are two Y's in Sandhills. This one is well loved by the Silver Sneakers. It is an older Y held in a historical commercial building.
The gym is divided by a huge canvas type curtain. On the left is a basketball court and on the right are weights and cardio equipment. If you are not serious about lifting it will suffice. You should bring cuffs for bar weights as they are hard to come by.
The pool is warmer than most. It is 25 meters and kept between 82 degrees to 90 degrees! It is great for therapeutic use but not easy to swim long laps. I prefer to swim 1/2 mile and struggled at 90 degrees. But at 83 degrees it works. The problem is it is a crap shoot for what the temp will be.
I understand there is a pool at the Community College but I was unable to check it out. So if you like water aerobics, therapeutic waters and a host of the most wonderful Silver Sneakers people, than stop on in! You will love it!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dave M.Maplewood, MN23266May 20, 2021
A massive pack of management is apparent by the breakdown of policies and support especially in the aquatics department.

I'm in the area for work, so naturally one of the first things I did was find a YMCA so I can keep on track with workouts.
First impression: this place is dated. Probably the oldest looking YMCA I've been to (I've been to quite a few). They could definitely do with some renovations.
I mainly only take classes at Y's. So far this week I have gone to 2: Strong by Zumba and a yoga class. Both were good and the instructors were great! But the class selection here needs additions/more selection. For example, on Wednesday morning, there are only 4 classes (fine) but 3 out of the 4 were for senior citizens! So my only option that morning (as I had to work in the evening) was yoga (fortunately I enjoy yoga but it would've been nice to have options).
Would I come back here if in the area: yes, because at the end of the day, it's conveniently located and I get a workout. But nothing to rave about.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Courtney S.Raeford, NC02May 31, 2019
I would give 0 stars if I could. I'm in the process of getting a refund for the parent child swim class for the month of May. The absolute worst swim program I have ever seen and I worked for a ymca for 3 years teaching swim. Our first day- the instructor was training a new teacher who was very young and had no experience (not her fault) she was trained for about 5 minutes before the main teacher left her to handle the class on her own while the previous teacher went to talk to employees. Each class after was taught by the new girl who obviously had no training or knowledge and could not handle the class, she basically did nothing and threw toys for us to just go around in circles and grab with our babies (she was nice though) To really make it worse our last class- no one showed up to teach. And on top of that, not a single employee in the pool, not another instructor teaching, not a life guard, not a front desk employee- NO ONE came to explain to us why there was no teacher. After 20 minutes a mom from class went up front and instead of the front desk woman coming to speak to us (which is who the mom went to talk to but I guess she could have cared less what was going on) another swim instructor ( who had said nothing while we just sat in a pool waiting) came and said "sorry she called out and her replacement didn't show up, feel free to use the pool for the remaining class and she'll call tomorrow for a make up" . That make up call never came of course. I'll update once I finally get through to management to get my refund and explain to them what an absolute failure their swim department is- apparently the aquatics director is out for two week so I'm being sent to the management director to complain. Either way- DO NOT waste your money , if your military do swim lessons on post and if your not, find another public swim group. This was the most disappointing swim program and biggest waste of time and $75 dollars.

The most frustrating thing with the YMCA is lack of communication . Good luck trying to sign up for swim lessons . After numerous unreturned phone calls I finally had to go in person .. signed my two boys up for swim lessons.. same levels.. and the lady signs up for two different schedules. I asked her repeatedly " they are in the same class right?" She said yes.. well I get home and check my email and they are signed up on different days. Call and someone transfers me and no one answers .. call back again and this time I get No answer at all. NO ONE RETURNS CALLS! So frustrating dealing with employees who just don't care. Save your money and find somewhere else to go.

Small facilities for a Y. Offer a good amount of service for the price. Cheaper than most gyms. Like the basic setup but not to thrilled with all the noises here. Way to much yelling and screaming for me.

My son was so traumatized by his swim instructor there, I couldn't even get him to take a bath all summer. There may be good instruction by some but beware that a few are much too aggressive and under educated.

Very affordable, nice people. Personal trainers are excellent and work with adolescents!
