You know, I'd always presumed this place would be awful. In addition to the weak three-star average here, I'm not crazy about noodles (they actually have a wide range of rice-based stir-fry dishes on the menu? Who knew? Terrible branding, I say...)
Anyway, one day I scrolled through the photos on the Yelp app (where I discovered the stir-fries), and figured it was at least worth a try. And as picky as I am about Asian food, I actually liked it enough that I'll definitely go back. That said, I'm withholding final judgment until then, as I didn't fully love my meal. For now, we'll just say YKN holds promise.
I built my own chicken stir-fry with spicy basil sauce, brown rice and the allotted three veg (lunch portion $8; I chose not to add the side and drink for an extra $2.50). Service and presentation were better than you get in your typical Asian take-out establishment, but I wouldn't order this particular meal again, as it was way salty. The portion size was adequate, so pricing was fair (but expensive compared to, say, the lunch special at La Que across the street). Also, I thought the meat and veg were of decent quality, and the meal wasn't greasy. These are qualities you can't always expect in an Asian restaurant.
Again, I'll go back. There's a variety of sauces on the menu, and I presume I'll find one I like - and if not, I'll downgrade my review...Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 7, 2016
If I could only have one type of food for the rest of my life, it would be noodles. Oodles and oodles of noodles.
Italian or Asian, they're pretty fab.
So I was so excited when I heard that Yang Kee Noodle was opening at Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue. I loved the YKN in Oxmoor Center, and now I would have one within walking distance.
And I finally got to visit earlier today.
I took advantage of the walk-up take-out window, which is accessible from the spacious patio along Bardstown Road. I love that this location has this window. I hit up YKN after the lunch rush, but there were still a few people on the patio.
I surveyed what felt like a long menu for a walk-up window (lots of options!) and stuck with my YKN usual from the Oxmoor location, the Chop Chop Noodles, which has chicken and shrimp, mushrooms, carrots, snow peas, bell peppers, angel hair and a lemon soy sauce.
I love that these noodles are so full of flavor yet aren't overly spicy. They also don't have a lot of the Asian food filler that I eat around in other dishes, like long beans, sprouts, water chestnuts and ginger.
The whole transaction took less than five minutes for me to order and receive my meal. And the cashier at the window was courteous and quick to help.
Saving my last star for when I dine in, which will likely be very, very soon.Helpful 19Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0Business owner information

I was eager to try out the hotly-anticipated Yang Kee Noodle in the Highlands, and my inaugural trip did not disappoint!
Located in the former KFC at the intersection of Bardstown Rd and Baxter Ave, the space has been wonderfully remodeled to have an open feel indoors, and ample outdoor seating on the patio. I was lucky enough to visit on a day with great weather and was able to take advantage of the fun outdoor space. Very creatively, the former drive-thru on the Bardstown Rd side has been turned into a nice pergola with at least one high-top table.
Service was prompt and friendly. I enjoyed a pick two with wonton soup and a small serving of pad Thai. All of the flavors hit the spot, the temperature was just right, and the portions were perfect for lunch.
I love both Yang Kee and the Highlands, so I'm thrilled to see the two finally merged. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to my new favorite location of Yang Kee!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

It's hard nowadays to find Asian food in the U.S that isn't so heavy on you. There has always been so much hype about Yang Kee Noodle, so nothing was stopping me from going here for dinner once the new location opened on Bardstown Road.
Their menu is set up a bit different than many other Asian places; I had to look at it for a bit before I could figure out what I wanted. For a place with "Noodle" in the name, I was surprised at how little of noodles there was to choose from. I went with the Honey Bourbon chicken with white rice, and crab rangoon.
The crab rangoon....oh my lord.....was probably the best I've had. Theirs are a lot larger than what I'm used to, but I definitely can't complain about that! It paired fantastically well with the duck sauce. The honey bourbon chicken was very good as well, although I could smell the sodium it was floating in. It came mixed in with many different vegetables, the corn being notably great within the mix.
I really like the design of the restaurants. The blue and orange colors make it look very modern, and the specific location I went to was pretty spacious and clean also. Friendly service was also granted at the counter to conclude.
RIP to KFC 11 that used to satisfy me on this corner in the Highlands, but I hope that Yangkee Noodle is here to stay.Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0Business owner information

I know this restaurant is called Yang Kee Noodle, but to me it's Yang Kee Stir-Fry. The first time I ever visited YKN, I went for the noodles because it's in the name. I'm not a fan of any of their noodles. They don't do it for me so I always get stir-fry!
This review is about the YKN in the Highlands. I think this is my favorite YKN. The mall YKN usually isn't fresh and the one in Middletown is soooooo far away. I choose the one in the Highlands. This location hasn't been open long, but I think it's here to stay. It's a much better fast food option than what was there previously (KFC and KFC11) I love the inside and I also love that there is a carry-out window. The addition of the patio around the restaurant is nice. Why didn't KFC ever think to do that?! It's going to be awesome as soon as the weather breaks.
Back to the food. Stir-fry. As far as I'm concerned this is one of the best places to get stir-fry quickly without having to cook it yourself. You choose a meat, 3 veggies, rice or noodles, and sauce.
I normally go with a Farmer's Bowl(Choose 5 veggies instead of a meat), but on this occasion I decided to go with chicken. For my veggies I went with PINEAPPLE(big chunks!), water chestnuts, and broccoli. Since it's rare for me to get noodles here, I chose rice. The last thing was the sauce and I decided to go with chili lime this time. There are a few of them that I love but they have 15 different sauces to choose from.
My dish was fresh and piping hot. For a moment I thought they forced people to use chopsticks at this location because that's all they have out. I love chopsticks as much as the next person, but rice isn't the easiest thing to eat with chopsticks. Luckily they bring a fork and knife out to you when they bring your food.
They also have pre-made dishes. Side dishes can also be devoured(spring rolls, egg rolls, etc etc). Soup and salads? Check. One thing I wish YKN would do is sushi rolls. It wouldn't have to be anything too fancy and they definitely shouldn't focus on sushi. Just give me some type of choose your meat roll or veggie roll.
I've never ordered carry-out from here so I can't speak to that. YKN has always seemed like a restaurant where you go in to eat. Being a sit-in restaurant for me is perfect because this location is great for people watching and Baxter/Bardstown/Highland Ave intersection watching.
What's that? You're asking about dessert? As soon as you finish eating here head over to Steel City Pops! It's right across the street and it has been staring at you the entire meal.
My favorite fast food Asian place is on Eastern Pkwy(I'm sure I've reviewed it). That little spot is hard to beat, but with Yang Kee Noodle being a short walk away.. I could see it receiving more of my business in the long run(depending on what I'm craving)Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0Business owner information

Worst excuse for Asian food I've ever seen!
They skimp on the meat in the entrées.
There were Five of us and we all ordered an entrée and there was Very little meat in any of them!
Terrible experience overall!
I won't be back!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elissa B.Louisville, KY273110325Jun 15, 2016
Decided to try Yang Kee Noodle one day for lunch. I had actually never been in the space before, so right away I was excited by the interior aesthetics. It was open, and nice and clean. Lots of seating as well.
The fiancé and I made it to the order line and there are two big menus to either side of you that you can read as you wait. You may have some "idea" of what you want, but as you peruse the menu, new options are everywhere that sound delicious, which makes deciding difficult. I was deciding between a couple noodle dishes so I went with the spicy beef basil noodles with a side of spring rolls and a drink. I think it came out to about $13. That is my only big issue. Lunch was a bit expensive for what was served. Food was good, portions were fine, but each entree (with side and drink) are between $9-$15, you can pick either small or regular portions of most dishes.. But the price was still kind of a lot for a restaurant like Yang Kee Noodle.
The food is brought you as you sit and wait. Like I mentioned, the food was good. The spring rolls were pretty standard, and the crab Rangoon tasted a bit different than generic kind, so I'd be curious if they were homemade. The sauces that came with each were not that great, but it was ok.
In the main part of the the meal; the beef was tender and the noodles were flavored well. I enjoyed the wasabi peas on top, not too hot, and a nice crunch. I could have lived without the tomatoes, but I dealt with it. Overall experience was good.. The fiancé enjoyed it too. I will definitely try to make it again. It would be great for a date night. I think the company has great potential to do well in that neighborhood as well.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0Business owner information

Elissa - thank you so much for your in-depth review. We look forwarding to seeing you again soon. To answer your question, the Crab Rangoon is a special recipe - glad you enjoyed. Congratulations to you and "the fiance" on your upcoming wedding. We wish you a lifetime of happiness. And noodles.

I asked my husband the other day what he wanted to eat. His response...NOODLES! I suggested Yang Kee totally thinking this place would not be as good as it was! The people were really nice and the options were plentiful. So with that said, I am doing it. I am giving a chain place I totally was not expecting to fulfill my needs a 5 star rating.
I got the drunken noodles, regular size. Holy wow, that's a lot of food. It was very savory and I made 3 meals out of it. My husband got the chicken pad thai. He was not expecting the tofu to come in the dish too. Since he is not a tofu fan, he had to pick them out, but he really enjoyed the dish. Last but not least, I got some delicious crab rangoon. I really like the chili sauce that came with them! I could have just drank that sauce.
I totally thought this place was going to not be good. I LOVE when places exceed my expectations. Oh, and they gave me a coupon for $3 off for next time. WINNING! I look forward to another noodle craving and stopping by Yang Kee Noodle!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Brennen C.Louisville, KY59103142Aug 31, 2018Updated review
I wanted to come back here so I could update my review. So I came back to give it another try. I ordered the firecracker chicken. I sat down with my number and was served promptly. Everything was delish, the noodles were a good length. I have no complaints. I will definitely be back again.

Aug 26, 2018Previous reviewNot my best experience at Yang Kee Noodle. I ordered the Pho because I've been really into Pho nowadays. I sat down with my number and waited almost "30 minutes!" When I finally got my order, I noticed a couple things. The noodles were chopped up into tiny bits. Who the heck chops up Pho noodles that short? I didn't mind the taste but I still wish it had more flavor. I'll have to order something different next time and hope they don't chop up the noodles like that. It makes it hard for chopsticks. The good things about Yang Kee is that it's affordable and they have vegan, gluten-free, and vegetarian options. I do like this place very much, but I hope next time I don't have to wait 30 minutes for a meal that can take at most 10-12.

It's nice to see what Yang Kee Noodle did with primo real estate at the crossroads of Bardstown and Baxter. The former home of KFC and KFC11 has been transformed into something like an urban oasis. Instead of a drive-through, there's a walk up window (or wok up, as they call it). And a nicely appointed, big outdoor patio for outside seating.
I used to like going for noodles at Yang Kee but pretty much gave up on going to the mall for them. So it's great to have one close. The dish I got on a recent -- the honey bourbon chicken -- was just OK. I got the small portion, since the printed calories made the large seem intimidating, and because it was lunch. It was a little less food than I'd hoped for, even with it being a small portion.
But I know that they have good food from my previous visit, so I will try it again soon. More noodles places are always welcome in my neck of the woods.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information
