Xishang Roodle brings something unique to Costa Mesa with their take on Yunnan's famous rice noodles. The highlight here is getting to prepare your own dish tableside - the server brings out a piping hot broth along with a variety of ingredients (veggies and raw meat) that you mix in yourself. I ordered the A1 (original crossing-the-bridge rice noodle) which includes chicken slices, pork slices, and shrimp for your protein. You first mix the raw meats in some egg white batter and then throw it in the hot broth to cook it. You then add the rest of the ingredients to complete your dish.
The rice noodles themselves were softer than I expected (although other reviews have mentioned they can be chewy, so your mileage may vary) but either way, the broth was incredibly flavorful and I thoroughly enjoyed my dish! If you have any leftover broth (and chances are you will), take it home, reheat, and toss in more ingredients the next day - it's delicious!
I also tried some of their cold appetizers: devil chicken and chili tofu strips. Both were really tasty, and the spiciness of these dishes were a nice complement to main course (since I didn't order that spicy). They didn't use actual tofu strips for the chili tofu that day, but instead thin bean curd strips, but it was still good. Overall, a great experience with some unique presentation and I can't wait to bring some friends back!

I decided to try this restaurant over the weekend. I ended up ordering the beef stew roodle special and a side of cucumber salad.
The service was a bit slow, but to be fair it was a full house during peak lunch time, but once the order was taken, the food was served quickly.
Whatever spices they use to slow cook the beef, they were amazing. The beef was so tender and literally melted in my mouth. The broth was delicious and had the perfect balance of heat and numbing flavors (mala).
The portions were quite good for the prices, and I will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nov 16, 2024
Interesting concept and fun experience putting together your own soup. We got the tomato and original broth crossing bridge noodle soup.
Noodles were delish and had a great "snap". The original broth was a bit flavorless and tomato broth a little too sour (the waitress did warn us about this).
4 stars for decor, service and cleanliness.

We came her for lunch and the place was not busy. Menu was simple and the staff explained what's what as the images in the picture were tiny and there are not list of what items are offered with each soup order.
The cucumber and tofu skin strips (Which is nothing like the pictures they have in yelp, they were small rectangular cut up pieces) were a good starter.
We ordered A1 (detail in picture) and B4 - soupy meat and vegetable. Should have ordered egg noodles for one of the items, as both were rice noodles. Imagine chewing on thick vermicelli. Overall the food was good but nothing exceptional for me to return or recommend to my circle. Plenty of parking in the common lot. Positive note is they were ok with swapping one of the pork item to shrimp. But protein portion is less than 10% overall. Lots of carb though.

Stopped by to try their nice noodle sets. We got their wagyu noodle set, devil chicken, spare ribs and magic tofu rice noodles. Our favorite was definitely the chicken that packed with flavor. The service was fantastic and interior was nice.

Came here to check out the "crossing the bridge" roodle dishes since they look so interesting!
The staff are helpful and offered recommendations for dishes.
We ended up getting the original crossing the bridge roodle, beef stew roodle, and soy chicken as an appetizer.
The crossing the bridge roodle is obviously very cool looking! The noodle soup was very hot, so it's a really nice cozy bowl of noodles for a chilly day. The portions of toppings for the noodle soup is quite small, so it is mostly soup and rice noodles.
The beef stew roodle had a decent flavor, but the numbing spice was slightly too much that it was a bit hard to enjoy all the flavor.
The soy chicken is a cold appetizer of cut chicken and a soy-based sauce. This was flavorful and the texture of the chicken was good.
Overall, the price is a bit on the higher side because of the portion, but the flavor here is pretty good!

Thank you so much for your kind words, love all these pictures you took. For the portion wise, we have made changes now, all the meat slices has been upgraded to three slices each.

We were craving Yunnan noodles and the closest place was xishang roodle in Santa Ana.
The restaurant is cute. It's tuck in a plaza with plenty of parking.
However, the portion size is quite small and each bowl of roodle starts at $19.99.
I ordered the fiery tomato broth which comes with chicken, pork and fish protein. I added a side of wagyu beef so my bowl came out to $30.
My boyfriend ordered the beef broth soup with no additional sides. His bowl was $19.99.
Fiery tomato - broth was flavorful, but not enough sides and noodles were over cooked.
Beef broth - broth reminded me of Galbi tang. It wasn't as flavorful.
Overall, I was still hungry after my meal. Would not return.

I wanted to this place a higher rating but the amount of food they give you is crazy for what you're paying.
I had "crossing the bridge/rainbow" type of noodles at other establishments and Xishang Roodle by far is the most STINGIEST with the food/meat portion.
I ordered the wagyu set and legit only got six small pieces of meat. The meat itself was okay nothing spectacular, honestly pho tai meat is way better than their "wagyu".
Definitely won't recommend this place to anyone. Unless they start increasing their portion size.

Thank you for your honest feedback regarding the portion size. We’re sorry to hear that you found it insufficient. We’ve listened to our customers and have recently increased the portion size of the meat and made the slices thicker to ensure a more satisfying experience.
We truly appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve, and we hope you’ll give our updated version a try. If there’s anything else we can do, please feel free to reach out. - Sep 24, 2024
Life is best enjoyed al dente, and what better way than with this new trendy self-cooking noodle concept at @xishangroodle ! This little noodle shop specializes in authentic Yunnan-style "crossing bridge" noodles soups, which you cook and customize to your liking with 9 provided ingredients, rice noodles (roodles) and chili oil in a fun interactive experience. Personally, I wished that there was a bit more of each ingredient since it comes out to about $25 after taxes for their crossing bridge noodle sets.
Make sure to also check out their other authentic dishes, which include their signature beef stew noodles, smashed cucumbers and chili tofu strips. I agree with other reviewers that their smashed cucumbers and coconut bomb drink could use a bit more flavor, and that there are other spots that make these items a tad bit better.
Service was so attentive, efficient and sweet, despite only having 2 workers on the floor for an entirely full restaurant. The table next to us had a child who wasn't feeling well, and the waiters took extra care to check in on her well-being and her enjoyment of the food, and even helped clean her up when she threw up on herself. I'm proud to support small, POC-owned businesses that care so deeply about their customers, and this is definitely a spot I recommend supporting!

This review is for their spicy beef noodle soup only. I would have given 2 stars but the staff earned 1 more star. The review is based on the fact that I am not familiar with Yunnan food.
The beef pieces inside the dish are, basically, throw-away parts. All small (teaspoon-size), with the inedible parts intertwined with what little meat is on it (hence, the throw-aways), so it's impossible to eat them. The flavor of the soup was nice, with a large amount of red beef oil on top. The noodle was cooked well. But the beef was inedible, and I threw away good money for some noodle and soup that I didn't even finish.
While I am open to trying their fancy noodle with the raw ingredients that you cook in the hot soup, I wonder when that'd be, because the beef noodle soup killed the vibe for me.

Hi dear Minhee,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We’re sorry to hear that you felt the beef in our stew was too small and understand your concern about the quality of the cuts. Please rest assured that we take your feedback seriously. We’ve since made modifications to ensure the beef is cut into larger, more satisfying pieces.
We truly appreciate your feedback and hope you’ll give our improved stew a try. If there’s anything else we can assist you with, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
