10/29/2020Awesome food. It's all vegetarian and vegan friendly. Village Natural is naturally in Greenwich Village. Located in West Village to be exact. The food is healthy and prices aren't terrible.
Food is kickass and so is the atmosphere. It feels like a casual atmosphere with a touch of class to describe it. The menu isn't too fussy and sounds very casual like a cafe or a sandwich shop. Also there's a few items more upscale, to add some variety to it. The food for the most part however is easy and about having a good time. I came here with my female friend. We got a table near the window. I had the Seitan Vegan Club. It's about $15 for a sandwich with a side. This is made with seitan, also known as wheat gluten, and it had a very meaty texture. She had the Black Bean Burger. This was a typical looking one with the common toppings. It came with fries. The other sides include chips and salad.
I thought it overall was good. She thought the same thing, and we agreed it was just kind of overpriced. That's what you expect around here but it wasn't that outrageous for the amount of food and taste. - 1413731176
9/2/2018Came here at the suggestion of some new friends and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Full disclosure: I'm an omnivore. I have no allergies or restrictions that keep me from eating everything in sight. That being said, I do appreciate different cuisines and Vegan cuisine is some of the most creative I've come across.
The atmosphere is cozy (you have to step down into the restaurant) and calm. It's a great spot to chill with a group, go solo dining, or take a date. The service was solid without being intrusive. They let you linger and laugh and never tried to rush you out the door.
Everyone had an interesting dish (wraps, sweet potato rolls, open-faced avocado toast sammich, and even soup) and everyone polished their plates. The flavors were came through nicely in the dishes. I went with a curry noodle dish (forgot the name) that had tempeh. I asked for extra hot and they brought the heat, though they also brought sriracha just in case. I appreciated the gesture.
My only drawback was the tempeh, but honestly, I'd never had it before so I can't judge if it was good or bad, only that the consistency and blandness didn't appeal to me.
Would I go back? Oh yeah. I want to see their creative spins on other dishes as well. It didn't break the bank and was one of those restaurants where you could truly get to know the people you're dining with. - 48901
8/23/2019Updated reviewThe atmosphere is really relaxed and laid back. I love the wooden decor. They also play very relaxing/nice music.
Their soy chick'n nuggets are amazing as well as their burgers. Quite honestly everything is pretty much safe here. You can order anything and know it will be good.
Their desserts....PLEASE try the banana cream crumble (I had the dairy version). It's absolutely amazing; I've never had anything like it. There are oats sprinkled as a topping and you can tell they're overnight soaked. Absolutely delicious. Every ingredient was very fresh.
10/14/2016Previous reviewThe atmosphere in this place is great. It's a very cool, wood design. Best soy chick'n nuggets I've had out!

3/10/2019Updated reviewOnce again here with my vegetarian aunt. I was in a rush because helping her today took longer than expected so she suggested here since the wait is usually not long.
We were given choice of seating and we chose a booth toward the back.
I looked at the menu. I knew the seafood dishes would be too much. I ordered the vegetarian black bean burrito. I forget what my aunt ordered to eat but she did order a carrot and ginger smoothie which she did enjoy. Whatever she ordered she was satisfied.
The food was ready in about 15 minutes, maybe less. The burrito even when cut in half looked huge. The whole burrito would have been like a 2 inch diameter and about 8 inches long, so yeah big. It came with fresh hot corn tortilla chips.
The burrito used a whole wheat flour tortilla and was filled with black beans, chili beans, and roasted veggies like zucchini, carrots, broccoli, yellow squash and a few more I can't remember. There was definitely something hot in there but not sure what it was and it was tasty.
When we were finished we both had food leftover. I only ate half the burrito and the chips. We asked to take our leftovers home and they were nicely packed which was good since we both had to take the subway home.
2/24/2018Previous reviewMu aunt and I were in here yesterday around 3 pm after I helped her out for a few hours.
It is mostly a vegetarian restaurant with a menu replacing meat with substitutes like tofu and seitan. They do have real salmon on the menu.
I ordered the vegetable cutlet parmagian which came with steamed broccoli, whole wheat spaghetti. The cutlet is covered with spaghetti sauce and melted muenster cheese. My aunt had one of the brunch specials which included a potato patti and vegetable patties.
My cutlet had a similar texture to a Chicken breast but when you take a look at the interior it looks like chicken nugget meat. Tasty none the less. The broccoli was only lightly steamed so it still had that crispness and vibrant green color. The pasta was cooked well.
They didn't have many customers at the time but that didn't stop them from giving relatively quick efficient service. I am not sure if my aunt had asked for the check while I stepped away for a few minutes after we finished but it was there when I came back. They took their payment promptly but not rushing to get us out.
3/16/2014Previous reviewIt was around last year this time I was in here with my aunt and so once again we came in here this time for dinner on Friday around 8 PM.
I was going to order the Moroccan-Style Couscous Dinner Entrée but my aunt had asked if I didn't want something with animal protein. I didn't realize that the seafood actually was real seafood so I decided on the sauteed shrimp and sea scallops.
The seafood was very tender and not overcooked. The sauce was tasty and I believe had soy sauce in it but not sure of the other ingredients. The vegetables it came with were tender and not overcooked just the way I like them.
The place was not crowded and the food came out rather quickly.
3/10/2013Previous reviewI came here yesterday with my vegetarian aunt for a late brunch. it was around 2:30 PM.
I looked at the menu and I ordered the BBQ Texas burger which came with soy bacon, barbecue sauce. All burgers are served on a whole wheat bun come with salad of mixed greens which included some mesclun greens. For an extra $2.50 you get sweet potato fries but you have to ask for it specifically so I did.
My aunt ordered tofu scramble and some sort of pasta dish. The entree she ordered was too big for her to finish with the tofu scramble she had ordered so she took the scramble home. The scrambled resembled tuna fish salad but tasted pretty food.
The dressing my salad came with looked and tasted similar to the dressing one gets with a Japanese bento box salad, not to say that's a bad thing.
The place is pretty spacious but doesn't have too much seating so there is plenty of room between tables.
The service was quick and courteous. We were seated quickly at the booth nearest to the front. Our waiter came with water and took our order quickly. The food also came out surprisingly fast. - Jess M.Manhattan, New York, NY01
4/27/2021What a great spot! Stumbled on this place with my sister who's visiting from out of town. We both loved it. Amazing food and variety of types of cuisine - Vietnamese, Mexican, American. Mostly vegan, but some fish options like the crispy fish tacos - which were so fresh and delicious. Spoke with the owner Ann who was so kind and attentive. She's been running this restaurant with her family for decades. We sat outside but also saw the inside which was rustic and cute. Highly recommend this place for vegans and anyone looking for fresh, healthy fare. Will be back again soon!!

8/26/2019This place is super cute and has a good selection of vegetarian/vegan options! Came here on a Monday afternoon and it was almost empty, but it turned out great. I ordered the Chipotle Crispy Chicken Sandwich and substituted the corn chips for a side salad with the carrot-ginger dressing.
For the salad, the dressing was awesome. Definitely more ginger than carrot, but that's as I like it. The sandwich was also great, with just the tiniest itty bitty kick of spice. Probably could have done with a little bit more of the chipotle mustard sauce but that could also just be my tastes. The soy chicken was soft but not mushy, not super convincing as chicken but still tasty in its own right.
The decor inside is also super cute, which I was not expecting from the dingy sign outside. - 986130235
9/4/2017Since going on a vegan diet, options have been hard to come by sometimes on the road. After just leaving a hotel with limited menu, we were ready to eat something interesting ... not just roasted root veggies. Village Natural was a great spot. The decor says old school eatery but with vegetarian and vegan dishes that give a nod to classic American, Asian, Italian and Mexican fare.
We tried the blueberry buckwheat pancakes which were fluffier then they're foreboding dark brown suggested. The pancake itself was lightly sweetened and had a dash of vanilla which complemented the blueberry compote.
We also ordered the soba noodles over veggies (kale, carrots & onions) and dumplings which was the clear winner! The savory/sweet Asian inspired flavor was pitch perfect. The dumplings also were stuffed with veggie goodness.
Though I was stuffed, I bought 2 desserts to go because vegan baked goods are rare finds and I'm a sucker for cake and pies.
The apple/walnut/carrot cake with soy icing (they really need a better name for that) was dry and the type of crumbly that reminds you of what you know is missing in vegan fare. The sweet potato pie renewed my faith that good baked vegan desserts are possible. The pies could have been sweeter but the texture of the filling was silky smooth. The "crust" seemed to just be wet oatmeal, nothing impressive but the filling made up for it. I recommend the pies over the cake and the soba noodles over the pancakes. - Antomig B.Cagayan de Oro, Philippines01
11/27/2019If the cheesecake factory was vegan.... This is it.
Found this place a couple of months ago. And I've been coming here almost everyday. The ambiance is so calm and soothing with all that jazz playin. I'd get the veggie cutlet parmigiana and the black bean burger. Service is on point, they got the best people. Sml to the servers, kitchen staff, and management at village natural you guys are the best. - 86240847
1/14/2017It's an old vide place with tons of vegan options. A pretty vegan healthy place, not as trendy as other new vegan restaurants opening these days, but pretty solid place with great Price! Seem to be more of a delivery place when I was dining there. It has all of you vegan options- sandwich, salad, bowl, hot entree. It also has some dishes of fish, so you can come with some anti vegan friends.
I got a seitan based entree with steamed zucchini, kale, broccoli and smashed sweet potato. It's pretty good and balanced. The seitan is a bit on the salty side. Compared to other places pricing at $20+ per entree, here, for non decorated hearty entree is under $15. Also, they offer soup or salad for your entree. I got carrot ginger soup, which is amazing, especially for cold winter nights after workout. Not many dessert choices though - just pies. Any way, decent and casual place to fulfill my meals. - Seth B.New York, NY122
3/19/2019This restaurant has been here for decades. It serves what people in NYC in 1982 thought of as "healthy" food and has a kind of throwback 1970s Sausalito vibe which is kind of amusing.
The food is really not very good. Burritos etc are pretty bland. Last time I went I got a "Wild Salmon Burger" which I suspected would be a bad idea, and when it came out my suspicions were confirmed--it was just a commercially-purchased frozen salmon patty that they had defrosted and then put on a grill for a few minutes. Basically the same thing I could have bought at Whole Foods for about two dollars.
I suspect a lot of the menu consists of frozen stuff--certainly the veggie burgers and probably the dumplings and so forth. If I am wrong, I welcome correction.
I've had th
Like I said, the place has been around forever and is practically an institution. But with the explosion of interest in vegan, vegetarian, and raw food in the last 15 years, it isn't clear to me how they stay in business since their offerings aren't particularly good.
