The old Victoria was rubbish: dirty, and charmless, I had an operation canceled there once because the electricity went down- thank God I wasn't on the table. Of course, the staff were excellent, and the morale seemed to be kept high because they had something to fight against.
Both the new and the old hospitals had the out of hours surgery- the place that NHS 24 send you to for a late night abyss emergency- as well as the A and E, and I have to report that the new building once you find the night entrance, is great. It feels safe and airy, unlike the old late night surgery, which felt like death row, and the service is, if anything, more helpful and faster. The new build is a step in the right healthy direction.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Laura M.Glasgow City, United Kingdom16396517Feb 21, 2010
What a sight! Sci-fi fans should adore this outside of this building - all coloured glass, clean light brick work and some rather impressive massive frosted glass doors. Inside, this is continued with the colour scheme running all the way through the hospital. It is also large and airy with cleanly sign posted departments. There's bright and shiny escalators as well as the opportunity of a lift for those slightly lazier ones amongst us.
The service is much faster than that in the older counter part and it is definitely more welcoming and (dare I say it?) comforting than the older model.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Briony C.Glasgow, United Kingdom1506129310067Nov 12, 2014
I've had the "pleasure" of visiting here a few times now and each time, I leave pretty impressed by the New Victoria. Even though it opened in 2009 it still has a new feel to it and always seems to have a calm vibe. Departments are easy to find as there's loads of signage, and I've never had a problem getting a parking spot.
I've visited the out-of-hours GP service a couple of times and each time I've had a wait of less than an hour which isn't too bad considering. There's an Aroma Cafe on site if you fancy grabbing some food as well.
All in all, if I have to go here I grumble about it a lot less than if I'm going to Southern General as it's that bit more accessible. (I can't give it 5 stars purely because visiting a hospital will never be that fun).Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Eleanor M.Glasgow, United Kingdom521240974Apr 15, 2010
The brand spanking new Victoria Infirmary is a million miles away from the depressing old one across the road. You won't miss this new building when passing by, the rainbow colours along the building make it a lot more charming and inviting. Well, as inviting as a hospital can be. I am amazed that it was built so quickly and I have to admit, passing by before it was finished I had my doubts on how it would turn out. As a matter of fact, it's turned out pretty well.
I was here today and as soon as I walked in the whole place felt light, fresh and airy and the sun shone straight through all the glass, it's amazing how simple things such as sunlight can make somewhere seem a lot calmer. Everything is painted a crisp white making it look clean and sparkly and if you're in a hospital the first thing on the list is that it's clean, it certainly looks a lot cleaner than the old one which was all brown and dark.
They have escalators to take you to the various different wards and walking from ward to ward you can see little gardens from the windows which remind me of tranquil little Zen gardens that you see in shows like The Beechgrove Garden.
It was a nightmare parking at the old Victoria but they even have a good sized car park where patients and visitors can park for up to 4 hours, free of charge. You can't say fairer than that.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Amanda R.Glasgow, United Kingdom414327Dec 24, 2014
It will probably sound a little strange....but I love this hospital! I've been here for 7 years now (2 as a student) and I've never met a greater bunch of people who work 365 days a year helping all the lovely people of Glasgow. It may look a bit worse for wear these days but its always kept nice and clean! I will be very sad to see this place close in May! The Victoria for me is a great example of health care at its strongest #caring #professionalpride #hardwork

the OLD Victoria infirmary, if there was such a thing as a time machine and Florence Nightingale came back to the Vicky she would throw in the towel. I understand that it will be closing soon but there is no excuse for the condition of this hospital either as a building or the actual basic supplies. Took the wife there at 2.30 am managed to get a bed in a ward at 12.30 afternoon. Won't go into the details but after having to question a nurse twice a doctor three times because information hadn't been passed on by the previous shift. Come on folks basic stuff. Eventually when we got to the ward had to wait for a further 6 hours for again basic supplies to turn up and this was after I spoke to the head of service, it turned up as Mr Ben would say as if by magic.
To sum up, the place is falling down the staff are fed up and I can't blame them. Please put it to sleep as you would a injured animal. This place is not fit for purpose. SorryHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
