8/5/2021This place was awesome! The server Harry was great. I went here for my birthday and it was a beautiful ambiance. The food was great and its good for sharing which made the experience better. Thanks for such a great time and delicious food.
As far as food, I had the smoked portobello (great/comes cold), rutabaga fondue (best/on the sweeter side), fingerling potatoes (Delicious), spicy Dan Dan noodles (Delicious), grilled tofu (Grilled perfect/Less flavor than the other items).
Harry did a grapefruit sorbet for my birthday

8/4/2021Updated reviewI've been to Vedge a few times and to its phenomenal predecessor, Horizons. I like the place, but it just doesn't wow me. It's all good (hence the three stars, which is NOT a bad review in my book), but it's not amazing.
Located inside a lovely old brownstone, make sure to get reservations if you really want to eat here. Otherwise you'll end up waiting for a table or sitting at the bar (which was fine by us).
We got the stuffed avocado ($12) which was an interesting mix of colors and textures, but not more than the sum of its parts. The avocado was straight-up and the cauliflower rice bland, though I enjoyed the spice of the sauce and the crispiness of the rice cracker that came with the dish.
The braised market greens ($12) were tasty, light and fresh, but this dish was basically just pho without noodles. I felt like I could have had a similarly delicious, and cheaper, meal at a Vietnamese restaurant somewhere.
The spicy dan dan noodles ($17) were nicely cooked, but the dish has little upfront flavor; you put a bite into your mouth and taste little until it goes down, when you get tons of back-spice.
Lastly, the blueberry cheesecake ($12) tasted all right. I liked the lavender ice cream and the freshness of the dish. But the cheesecake was too soft.
The drinks aren't bad and their beer/wine list is decent.
If you're in Philadelphia, it's hard to pass up an experience like Vedge. On the other hand, I think the food at other vegan places like Bar Bombon, Blackbird, Su Xing and Grindcore House is better.
3/20/2012Previous reviewWhen Horizons closed in 2011 I was devastated. It was not only the best vegan restaurant in the country, it also served the best food I'd ever eaten, plain and simple. But when Vedge opened, with the same chef-owner team, I was ecstatic and eager to see what new things they had in store.
First, Vedge is a beautiful space: it's housed in a gorgeous, old brownstone with much fine original woodwork throughout. The bar up front manages to be both upscale and unpretentious, which is a rare feat. Actually, I think Vedge has a better look and feel than Horizons.
Onto the food: we started off with some cocktails and a "Dirt List" small plate. My "sherry temple" ($10) was an excellent cocktail, mixed to perfection, consisting of absinthe, sherry and a couple other delicious things. The "Irish stew mushroom" ($9) dish we got was overly basic, however---it was a simple potato-carrot stew with a great variety of soft, succulent mushroom (whose name I've forgotten). The ingredients were all great, but the taste was pedestrian.
For the mains, it's suggested that you order two or three dishes per person, as the portions are fairly small. We got the "wood-roasted sweet potato puree" ($8), the "grilled gochujang tofu" ($13), the "fresh hearts of palm with garbanzo crepe" ($13), the "roasted maitake mushroom" ($15) and the "steak spice seared tofu" ($14).
The sweet potato puree was tasty; it was basically a smoky, sweet spread that you put over some pieces of small, toasted white baguette. I liked this dish, but was not blown away by it and I do wish they'd offered whole wheat instead.
The gochujang tofu was superb and the best dish of the night, in my opinion: a piece of grilled tofu with a delectable piece of fried yuba (tofu skin), a smoked miso broth, and a savory edamame puree. This dish reminded me of Horizons at its finest.
The hearts of palm and garbanzo crepe was akin to an Indian dosa filled with lentils and hearts of palm. I liked this dish and I think the green harissa added a big dose of flavor. Kudos to Vedge for this fusion offering.
The roasted maitake mushroom dish was mixed. I loved the maitake mushroom, which has a really great texture (a little soft, a little crunch), and the fried celery fritter also tasted great (and I normally hate celery). I didn't like the truffle mustard, however, which hurt the dish considerably, in my mind.
Lastly, the steak spice seared tofu was basically an English dish consisting of grilled tofu with peas and mushrooms. The beech mushrooms had a strong briny flavor and the dish on a whole was strong of salt; it lacked the subtlety of the gochujang tofu.
For dessert we had the cheesecake ($9) and the turnovers ($8). I liked the cheesecake a lot, as the mix of meyer lemon, crumbly-sugary crust and neutral tofu base created a nice mix of flavors. My friend, however, though it tasted too much of tofu. The turnovers, both of us agreed, were bland: fried pastries filled with sweet potato and served with cream. It sounds great, but the dish had no real sweetness and just didn't come together.
The service was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.
Vedge is one of the finest vegan dining experiences in the country. I'd argue that it's the best vegan experience in the US, easily beating places like Millennium in San Francisco and Candle 79 in New York City. All that said, it's not quite as good as its predecessor Horizons, which never let me down on any dish, and had dishes with a stronger flavor profile than Vedge. I gave Horizons five stars (one of very few places to get five stars in my book), and I think Vedge falls short of perfection, which is why I can only give it four stars. However, I will be happy to go back to Vedge and it is a wonderful place on a whole. - 888321
7/10/2021Updated reviewSurprised I haven't reviewed Vedge yet, but after my 5th or 6th time driving down from New York just to go there, I figure I should add to the 5-star reviews on this site.
Place is great. Rarely have had anything we didn't enjoy (except the radish dish from like 2018, my bad, didn't realize I don't love radishes). Rutabaga fondue is the star but the fingerlings, Brussels sprouts, and everything else is fantastic.
11/9/2015Previous reviewThere are hundreds of reviews singing the praises of Vedge, so I probably can't add much but I'll try.
Good bathrooms. Clean. Stocked with soap and towels. Hey, a lot of nice places have bad bathrooms but their's were so good, I went twice.
Everyone was knowledgeable. Everyone from the host to the food runners to the servers were good. Our server, Dustyn, knew literally everything about everything on the menu. His description of the dessert made us get it.
This might be one of the best restaurants in America - vegan or not. We got 8 dishes (plus another the chef sent out, which were awesome sunchockes/Jerusalem artichokes) and 1 dessert. The price wasn't bad - all of that and 2 drinks cost $123. I mean, I'm not coming here every night, but it was a special occasion and it was so worth it.
All the food was crazy good except for one. We didn't love the radishes, but we wanted to try something different. We would never order or cook them at home, so we figured we'd give it a try. No regrets.
The following were amazing: Cauliflower; sunchokes; rutabaga fondue (one of the BEST things I've EVER eaten!); smoked seitan; fingerling potatoes (holy wow, amazing); golden beets.
The cedar-infused vanilla ice cream (WHAT!?!?) on top of sticky toffee bread pudding? Get out of here. Insane.
Just go here. - 333201418
6/11/2021First group dining in a very long time. Staff are wearing masks and they encourage you to wear masks any time you are not actively eating. Indoor dining capacity seams to be largely back to normal.
Parking over here is absolutely atrocious especially with all the closed streets for outdoor dining as well as construction so definitely give yourself some leeway. They were nice enough to give us some time past the reservation time for everyone to get there.
This was actually my first time at Vedge so I can't compare to how they were before the pandemic. The food was good, and I guess it's up to you to decide if the price is worth it. For $70pp, I won't say we were full, maybe 70% ish.
Drinks, we got some non alcoholic ones - The Who's Brian? And who's colin? I forgot which one is which, but one is hibiscus citrus and the other one is ginger. Both were really good.
For the dishes, we got the rutabaga fondue, radish robatayaki, smoked mushroom carpaccio, stuffed avocado, eggplant braciole, ssamjang tofu and the charred beets. These dishes were all very small portions and they do recommend you get about three per person.
For me, I liked the rutabaga fondue and the eggplant braciole the best. The fondue was super creamy and the bread they give you is so so good. And they'll also give you a bit extra bread if they see you didn't finish all the fondue! That was super nice. The eggplant was probably the meatiest dish so that got my vote.
For the dessert we got the rhubarb cheesecake with basil ice cream, the myer lemon tart, and the Persian love cake with lavender ice cream.
Definitely if you have a fancy night out try out Vedge! - 193169480
6/6/2021Updated review2 check-insCame here again for indoor dining for the first time before COVID (!!!) and lemme just say...they have not missed a beat! Food: amazing. Service: perfection. Vibe: just right.
We ordered a few rutabaga fondues (will be dreaming of these forever), eggplant braciole, fingerling potatoes, gazpacho, and a few other items. They knew we were celebrating a birthday and brought out a few desserts at the end which was super thoughtful. All the food and drinks were fantastic. The service was also amazing- our server was kind, unobtrusive, but attentive and patient with my parents asking a thousand questions about the menu :)
Pro-tip: if you're oil-free, let your server know! They have a special oil free menu.
1/26/2020Previous reviewOBSESSED with this place. We had a reservation in for 7:30 PM on a Saturday and came in with my parents to celebrate my mom's birthday. My SO and I are vegetarian and my parents are vegan and oil-free. Not only where they able to accommodate the oil-free aspect, but they even had a prepared menu with all of the oil-free dishes. We have been to a LOT of restaurants around the world and I've never seen anything like this before...my mom was shocked. ANDDD bonus points because they gave us the oil-free menus when we were seated at our table without us even asking. I LOVE attention to detail. So they were already off to a great start.
We ordered some wine and I asked our waiter for his suggestion after describing what we like. He was able to make a great recommendation that we all enjoyed. Overall, I'll just say that service was on point the whole evening. The flow of our meal was never off despite being there at a very busy time.
As for the food - I will say that I had read reviews before we came here and I was worried we would leave hungry... we ordered 2-3 dishes per person for our party of four and we were all stuffed by the end of our meal. So they've either "beefed" up their menus since those reviews (pun intended!), or it's probably best to order a few dishes per person.
We ordered the tofu, beech mushroom x 2, potato crepe, gold beet, rutabaga fondue x 2 (OMG I could literally eat this all day), broccolini, and stuffed avocado. Everything was amazing. I was super impressed with the presentation and flavors. Everything tasted very fresh and thoughtfully paired.
We loved this place so much that I've already made a reservation for when my parents and my SO's parents come visit us in May. - 8177132
6/24/2021I'm going to preface this review by saying the atmosphere and service were wonderful.
I have visited Vedge on a multitude of occasions and I was so excited to return there recently for dinner. The menu was different than I remembered, but we were excited to try a variety of new dishes. Unfortunately, the food was quite different than I had remembered. The food was once so interesting and unique that my husband and I would debate the different flavors and textures - while last night it was debating the strange textures and odd flavors in a displeasing note.
I am sad to say that it didn't live up to my previous visits and I don't think I would return again with this menu in place. - Alexandra C.East Greenwich, RI6852647
8/18/2021WOAH. I've had a lot of extraordinary vegan meals, but this one will go down as one of my of all-time favorites. Absolutely everything was delicious, but the spicy dan dan noodles and the rutabaga fondue were the highlights! Also had peppermint ice cream and the blueberry cheesecake with a side of lavender ice cream - absolutely mind blowing. Best cheesecake I've had in my life! Service was wonderful, drinks were divine, and I can't wait to come back!

4/11/2021Let me preface by the fact that wanted to love this place so much. V street has a special place in my heart, so I was really looking forward to trying Vedge.
We got to the restaurant early, and they were extremely nice in accommodating us although they didn't have any immediate seating available, we were told that they were going to contact us if any table became available sooner. they even gave us a tour of the indoor and outdoor dining areas, in case we changed our mind about outdoor seating.
We started with drinks, we had the Spanish G+T and the sour. They were both pretty tasty, the tonic however had peppercorn in it which I didn't expect and did bite into it thinking it was part of the blackberry - which did kinda turn my tastebuds a little bitter for the rest of the night.
We tried several items from the menu, the fondue, the tofu, the eggplant, the pho soup, which were all very tasty but far too salty for my tastes. I was drinking a lot of water throughout the night and through dinner. The desserts however were amazing, especially the love cake. I only wish I had more to take home with me..
The service was incredible. Every one was super nice. And I wish I just loved my experience a little more. Maybe not getting the gin and tonic to start... - 395271410
7/6/2021SHE BOUGIE. Vedge is uber upscale and entirely vegetarian/vegan. The food, atmosphere, drinks, and service was wonderful. Came here on a Saturday night with reservations and we had no trouble being seated. Indoor seating is back with full force and the restaurant was packed.
PARKING: If you're thinking of parking in this part of Center City, you'll either have to pay $$ for a spot in a parking garage or do street parking a couple blocks over and walk here.
INSIDE: Clean, homey, but still very fancy. You see people wearing clothes ranging from T-shirts and jeans to very dressed up suits. It's very intimate and although there were lots of tables packed together, I never felt that it was too loud to hear my other dinner companions.
FOOD: Our server and the kitchen work really hard to accommodate any dietary restrictions. Any food allergies are taken seriously and they know all the ingredients that go into every dish. Someone at our table had a soy and gluten intolerance and they were able to make modifications and substitutions without a big hassle. The only downside was that some of the desserts we wanted were sold out...at 5 pm already! Maybe we should have ordered dessert first to save some of our favs. The menu is also very subject to change. So if you see something you like, order it before it comes off the menu.
-FINGERLING POTATOES (aji amarillo, cured olive, peanut, cilantro): You have to get the fingerling potatoes. The aji amarillo goes on so nice and reminds me of an elevated version of papa a la huancaina. The potatoes are crispy and this plate is a great little appetizer.
-RUTABAGA FONDUE (pretzel, pickles/crudités): Great for sharing and because of our diners is gluten-intolerant, they were able to supply is with more crudités to dip into the "cheese" sauce. Smokey and buttery at the same time. This fondue is out of this world.
-EGGPLANT BRACIOLE (smoked eggplant, italian salsa verde, black olive, piquillo pepper): I don't know what kind of magic Vedge was able to pull off on this dish. But instead of the soft texture of eggplant that I am used to, they were able to make the texture so meaty. So much depth of flavor and I can see why this dish is a crowd favorite. My wallet was definitely hurting after spending $20 on eggplant.
-GRILLED GOLD BAR SQUASH (fregola, english peas, arugula pistou, saffron rouille): Interesting flavor. Somehow Vedge was able to evoke a seafood, fishy flavor without the use of meat. This had a stronger flavor profile than the eggplant braciole, but the squash isn't as interesting in texture.
-RADISH ROBATAYAKI: I thought this dish was okay. I didn't really find anything special about it and although I'm glad we got to try a variety of dishes, I could have done without ordering this dish. It's a so-so offering.
-RHUBARB CHEESECAKE: The desserts at Vedge are so creative! This cheesecake came with bail ice cream and little bits of pink pepper honeycomb. I love the savory, but sweet combo. Mixed in with tartness, I thought this dessert was well balanced.
PRICE: $$$ Expensive. Definitely for special occasions. Total of our meal including 1 drink each and tip turned out to be about $160 total for 3 people. Great food, but if you're not strictly vegan or vegetarian...you'll be in for a little sticker shock.
Overall: Great ambiance, great servers, and fantastic food. I enjoyed my time at Vedge and can see why people flock to its doors. - 56230
12/27/2020I have been meaning to the Vedge since I was a huge fan of V street (now closed). Food was good but not spectacular. It is not easy to make vegan food rich but the restaurant succeeds in that. But, definitely not the best vegan food. For the price, I do not think the food is worth it.
On the other hand, highly impressed with their outdoor dining setup.
