Thank you Joan for the wonderful compliments. Tara and her team, along with the rest of our team work very hard to take care of large groups, especially for such a wonderful occasion as a rehearsal dinner. Thank you for your support and shout out for our team. We’ll see you soon. :-)
Congratulations on your son’s wedding!

Christina was our waitress, and she was amazing. She perfectly personified what "service with a smile" should look like and did everything necessary to make sure we were happy during our visit.

Our server, Eva, was great! Very attentive and had great recommendations! The restaurant can get a little loud, but to be expected on a busy weekend dinner time! Everyone was accommodating to find us a quiet spot! Our favorite restaurant by far!

Thank you, Beth! We appreciate the kind words, your support, and of course we all like the five star rating.
Eva is a wonderful girl and embraces her coworkers, our culture, and, our customers. She’ll be excited to see your review. We will make sure the staff sees your review as they all are very hospitable.
We do realize the restaurant can get a big busy vibe going on those busy nights, we are installing acoustical panels to help mitigate the ambient sound on those big busy nights. That project should be done in the next 2 to 3 weeks. It will definitely soften the Ambient sound.
See you back soon. - Mar 24, 20242 check-ins
YUM! I am officially a new fan of VAI's. I've heard nothing but good things about VAI's from friends in Naperville and finally got to try it out for dinner on a Saturday night.
My friend made a reservation the night before and there were only a few time slots left, so I definitely recommend making a reservation before stopping in. When we arrived and saw the full dining room and patio, I was both grateful we had a reservation and excited to see what all the hype was about.
We were seated in the main dining room which was spacious and noisy as there were many other parties seated in there as well. Next time I visit I will request a table on the patio (enclosed and heated with fireplaces!)
Service was great; our waiter was kind, personable, and made some great substitutions for my non-dairy and gluten-free preferences. He had the chef swap out the cream sauce for a lemon butter, and I did gluten free pasta. The lobster and shrimp was AMAZING!
For apps we went with the fried calamari which also had fried shrimp and shishito peppers. I could probably eat an entire plate of it to myself, it was so good.
Drinks were divine; I went with the #3: it's delicious and it did in fact live up to the name. My friend ordered a glass of red wine which was a bit of a disappointing pour (very little wine) so she went with the #3 for her second drink and was very happy.
Thank you VAI's for a great dinner, I can't wait to come back!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

We went back to VAI's tonight for a post-theater dinner. The restaurant has plenty of seating and a nice bar area. It also has an outdoor patio. Jay was our server tonight and provided great friendly service. He took my high maintenance order with no problem... leave off the tomatoes, make it well done, dressing on the side. Poor guy!
My husband and I started with cocktails, an old fashioned for him and a dirty martini for me. Make that extra dirty with blue cheese olives, please. VAI's makes some really good cocktails, but the food is where it's all at. I love VAI's grilled romaine salad with crispy leaks and pancetta. I asked for the romaine to be well done. I love it that way. Tim had the Italian chopped salad with soppressata, artichokes, mozzarella and other goodies. I chose a small plate for my entrée, the meatballs and polenta, and my husband had the lasagna. Both were such delicious Italian comfort food, but the meatballs reminded me of my dad. VAI's meatballs are the closest to my dad's - moist, soft and so flavorful.
Both the small plate and the lasagna entrée were generous in size and came with the best grilled crusty Italian bread.
Tara stopped by our table to check how we were enjoying our meal and we chatted for a bit. I love that special attention. The owner Michael wasn't there today, but he usually is the one to come by and check on his customers.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience tonight. I definitely recommend this restaurant and I recommend making reservations. Try their sister restaurant Entourage. It's just as good as this place.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you Marianne, your detailed review and pictures are wonderful. We appreciate you taking the time to write. I’ll certainly be sharing your comments with our staff.
We look forward to seeing you at the bar. :-)

Hi Marianne, I’m adding to my comment, your review went to four stars from five stars and I’m wondering if that was just a Yelp thing that happened? I’m not sure why that happens. Thanks again and we hope to see you soon.

Thank you Marianne,
We appreciate the wonderful review again from you. You should have ordered a four cheese pizza and a side of meatballs and put the meatballs on the pizza :-). The meatball pizza is actually off our menu at this time.
We try to be very specific with safety procedures. All of our tables are spaced accordingly with 6 foot distancing between backs of chairs. A lot of safety focus.
Have a great day!
Cheers...Jul 17, 2020Previous reviewOrder from Vai's delivery through GrubHub. I was impressed that the food was just as good as when we used to dine at the restaurant pre-Covid. The food came hot and fresh. We were, however, really disappointed to not be able to order the meatball pizza. One of our faves and couldn't get it as it's not offered through the delivery service. Bummer. The salmon harvest salad was good with a perfectly-grilled piece of fish. The lobster and shrimp rigatoni was scrumptious. I'll be ordering again. Maybe I'll dine on the patio if Vai's has spaced tables 6' plus apart.
Nov 30, 2019Previous reviewMy husband and I dined at the bar on our last visit to Vai's. The bartender was busy and took good care of us. Unfortunately, I didn't get her name. She made me a yummy blackberry cocktail. We shared the whipped ricotta & honeycomb apoeoserved with grilled bread. The creamy ricotta with a touch of sweetness on the crusty bread...oh my! I had a salad with grilled salmon, which was bright with color and freshness. The salmon was cooked to a medium, moist and delish. My husband loves Vai's meatballs So he opted for the meatball pizza. You have to experience the meatballs at this restaurant. They are awesome! I wish Vai's had a reservation system through OpenTable or some other means.
Feb 23, 2019Previous reviewTonight was my first time dining at Vai's and I'll definitely be back. I gave this restaurant five stars even though there are a couple of things that I wish were different. As a Yelp Elite, I'm a little worried about being dressed down for the couple negatives from my dining experience as noted in a reply from the owner on a negative review. I hope he sees all that's positive in my review. First of all, this restaurant is large. It has a great bar area and also an outdoor seating area. They do not take reservations, but you can bring your own wine and pay a corkage fee which we did. My husband and I came here with our friends who recommended this place. I was eager to try a new restaurant in the area. Being 100% Italian and loving the food, I was hoping for a good dining experience. Come to find out, this is owned by the same people that own Fire & Wine in Glen Ellyn. The owner, Michael, stopped by our table and chatted with us. I do appreciate when an owner Is hands on and present and makes his customers feel welcome. On a Friday night, the restaurant was hopping and was very crowded, but our wait was not too long. Luckily, my friend thought to call ahead to get on the waitlist. I do wish Vai would take reservations especially on OpenTable. It's so nice to be able to have a confirmed reservation. Our server was Brandon who provided service with a smile, was personable, explained the menu and gave us great recommendations. We started out with three small plates. The first, the burrata, was served with grilled grapes, pesto, tomato jam and grilled bread. Layer everything together on the crusty bread and you have a delicious bite. Next we had the asiago gnocchi which was served with tomatoes and spinach. This dish had a strong garlic flavor and the gnocchi were good. My only complaint was the gnocchi got lost in the amount of spinach on the dish. Since this is a shareable small plate, the gnocchi should've been more plentiful. I was disappointed in that. Our third dish was actually a side dish of meatballs recommended by the owner Michael. These meatballs were fantastic! Full of flavor, soft and moist served with a wonderful thick gravy...or marinara as most people call it...on a bed of polenta. We were not steered wrong and this did not disappoint. The couple we were with had the whitefish and the shrimp & sausage cavatelli entrees. The whitefish had a beautiful presentation. Both friends enjoyed their dinners saying their food was good. My husband ordered the rigatoni bolognese. He ate everything on his plate only after I managed to snag a rigatoni. I could tell the pasta was homemade and it was cooked to a perfect al dente. I opted for the grilled romaine which came with fried leeks, crispy pancetta and a creamy dressing which I ordered on the side. The crispy pancetta and fried leeks really enhanced the flavor of the salad. I just wished that the romaine was charred a bit more from the grill. I also asked for salmon on the side with my salad as there was a special salmon dish for the night as well as one listed on the menu. I didn't want the risotto or the pasta that came with those salmon dishes so the restaurant accommodated me when I just wanted a bare bones salmon fillet. It was cooked to perfection, a perfect medium. I applaud the restaurant for being so accommodating to dietary needs. Now the biggest complaint I have about this restaurant is the noise level. Extremely loud. That was the first thing I said when we sat down. It was so hard to carry on a discussion with my friends. At times, the level of noise actually was at such a level that it was too much and took away from my dining experience, but I didn't want to take away a star in my rating for noise level because the service and food were very good. The owner did mention he's concerned about the noise level and will be working on that issue in the future. We ended the night with the housemade limoncello and a complimentary nocino that Brandon wanted us to try. So darn good! This after-dinner drink contained brandy and vodka with hints of cinnamon and walnut. Even though we didn't partake in the dessert, the ones that passed by the table looked delicious especially the Italian doughnuts. I will definitely be back and probably will sit around that great bar next time if it's just my husband and me. It's nice to have a good Italian restaurant in that area. Vai does not disappoint as far as service and quality of food.

Came here when I was in the area. The place was very crowded even on a Wednesday night. I decided to take a seat at the bar as there was some availability. They have an extensive list of wines and other drinks.
For my meal, I decided to go with the vodka pasta and I added chicken to it. My plate came out in a reasonable time. The vodka sauce with the pasta was good but not as flavorful as other places I've been to. The pasta itself was really good though. Nice texture and paired well with the chicken. The garlic bread that came with the dish was very good and when I finished my pasta I used the bread to clean up the sauce on my plate.
The place can get very crowded so if you have a big party I'd recommend making reservations. If you're a smaller party try to catch a seat at the bar. I was there for a short time but saw how they interacted with other customers and they definitely care about the customer experience. Overall, the food is good, the place has a cool vibe, and the people are friendly.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Came here with a party of 11 on Thursday at 5:30. Made a reservation online and they had the table all set up with high chairs and they even offered a sling for car seats. It was also spacious enough to park a stroller. Waitress was friendly and I liked that you could order family style. There was serving spoons with everything and they even cut the steak for us.
Mushroom carpaccio - kind of funky with the goat cheese and mushroom. Very unique but I don't think I'd get it again
Fritto - fried calamari was good. But the portion was kind of small and oily
Salmon - nice risotto and tender salmon
Lobster - quite small but the rigatoni was good. I liked the chew and flavors
Chicken parm - chicken was quite dry but the rigatoni was good
Chicken and pesto pizza - I liked the texture of the crust but my husband thought it was a bit dry
Ny strip - great char and perfectly cooked
Spaghetti and meatballs - meatballs were a little tough and sauce was kind of like fruit punch. Very acidic
Shrimp salad - the char on the shrimp was nice
White wine cake - very moist and all of the flavors balanced well. The sauce was tart and the cake tasted like a churroHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I have reviewed this restaurant before, but just wanted to add my birthday treat Affogato as I came with friends to celebrate two out of three of our birthdays. The staff there always treats you like family and enjoyed my lunch there. Usually go for dinner, but tried the lunch, special of brisket Panini with a side salad, scrumptious!

~ VAI’sDec 6, 2023Previous reviewBack to Vai's for another fabulous meal. The place was packed for a Wednesday night so you know it's good. We were with friends so ordered a couple appetizers, Mushroom Carpaccio and an eggplant dish, both tasty. My husband and I split the salmon + Harvest salad and Dinner Spicy Chicken Tortellacci, both favorites. For a little dessert we split the Affogado, vanilla gelato served with an espresso shot to pour over. Super yummy. Great service with the manager coming over to apologize for the delay with the entrees. Even offer a veteran's discount year round. Next time have to try their restaurant just up the street, Entourage.
Sep 16, 2023Previous reviewWe met up with two other couples before heading to a a local venue for an 80s tribute concert (so much fun)! We had a 6:30 dinner reservation and the place was already hopping. Fortunately we were able to get seated right away. It's a little difficult to hold a conversation for six with the acoustics and packed restaurant but we did the best we could. We were waiting on one couple so ordered the Fritto Misto and Zucchini Frites to share. Both battered and fried, both came with a dipping sauce for the zucchini, calamari, asparagus, and jalapeños. My husband and I ordered a small plate, the peppered shrimp and a pasta, the spicy chicken to share. Both tasty, I'd get the chicken again but not the shrimp, a little too peppery for my liking. Others ordered the ribeye, looked good, a spicy Calabrian fish, and a salmon salad that I did try a bite and would definitely order next time. We split a tiramisu and cheesecake that everyone enjoyed. Luckily we were going to dance off some of those calories consumed! We are picky Italian restaurant critics but we loved VAIs and will definitely go back.

Salad was really amazing, crab cake was good but nothing compared to Hugo's frog ,my absolute favorite !!! The margarita with 818 tequila was good but very sweet. When I asked the waitress to make it less sweet it seemed like she added more ice. The place wasn't very busy when we had arrived a little after 4, but was blowing up by 7pm
I'm disappointed that Naperville doesn't have any happy hours but was told they did before pandemic. I live in the city of Chicago and there's a lot of happy hours since the pandemic was overHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you Jasmine! We appreciate your review. Hugos does have an outstanding crabcake. I’m glad you appreciate great food. Our crabcake is 100% jumbo lump crab no filler. We absolutely love it.
We will certainly look into the margarita situation. And our salads are outstanding. Glad you enjoyed it so much. And yes, unfortunately there is no happy hour in the City Of Naperville. The fourth largest city in the state of Illinois. But that’s the way it is. Hope to see you back next time you’re in town.
Cheers to fresh herbs…
