My kids have been training with Sifu Xing for two years now, and we're really happy with the results. The kids love that their Sifu is a "real actual monk from Shaolin!"
Not only that, but Sifu Xing is incredibly patient, and really seems to enjoy working with all the kids. He teaches adult Kungfu and Taichi classes too.
Class hours are convenient, and the location is ok. It's in an office park close to the Dublin library. It's pretty bare bones, but the kids have all they need to learn. What I love about this place is that it's old-school - you do need to sign a waiver, but it's not going to be like one of those money churning studios that make the kids say a daily mantra on how they're going to only use their martial arts for self defense and not to evil purposes at the beginning of every class. The kids learn some self discipline, but to be frank, your kid is going to have to have some kind of desire to want to learn, or they won't succeed here. There are less belt levels, and belt testing probably occurs less frequently than at other schools, which in my humble opinion is better, because I think it makes the kids who really want to learn to soldier on and continue to focus on their forms because they want to learn them, not because it gives them another notch on their belts.
The kids can learn sparring, but truth be told, it's not really that exciting - just a lot of ineffectual but comical shoving while wearing hilariously bulky padding. What's really awesome are the Shaolin forms that the kids learn first - and that includes broadsword, and staff or stick fighting. At higher levels, there's whip and three-sectioned nunchucks. (). And yup, the kids sometimes do get dinged, scraped and bruised. It's kungfu, not basket weaving. Keep your expectations realistic.
So yup. We love this place, and hope that we'll be able to learn more from Sifu Xing!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - JJ L.San Ramon, CA86810Jul 30, 2015
My son has been going to Sifu Xing for the past 4 years. He loves the class and Sifu is a true monk from the Shaolin Temple in China.
He is very patient with the kids and pushes them to learn and grow.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tee S.Tracy, CA0205Aug 29, 2017
My daughter really enjoys going to this place to learn kung fu from Shifu Xing. I was really surprised to how many moves she showed me within a few lessons. Shifu Xing is very nice and patient, and well respected. I'm looking forward to signing up some tai chi lessons with Shifu Xing in the future once my work schedule is stable.

My son and I both have been learning Kungfu and Taichi, respectively, from Shifu for a couple of years now. Shifu has shown us to master the skill, mindset and wisdom behind martial art. Obviously we all have a lot to learn from Shifu, but anyone steps in the class can tell that Shifu has earned the respect from his students of all ages.
I am grateful for Shaolin sending out this elite group to share with the world. I consider ourselves fortunate to have Shifu in our area.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michelle H.Fremont, CA1305054Apr 29, 2017
Wonderful place to learn kung fu. I just started taking my daughter here and she really enjoys it. Sifu is so patient with her and definitely likes to work on each kids specific areas of need.

My two kids are students and they enjoy the classes very much. Clearly the teacher offers a lot of depth and variety and I highly recommend his little school

I saw the owner teach little kids at the San Ramon Chinese school -- a pretty hard thing to do, considering just how knowledgeable he is. Very patient and hard working -- and of course, he's got an amazing, authentic knowledge of the forms. We decided on this business over the myriad of karate schools.

I have been learning Northern Shaolin Kung Fu from Shifu Yan Xing for almost three years now and I am very satisfied with my lessons. Not only have I learned a great deal, I am stronger, faster, and have even lost a little weight without dieting. Shifu Xing is an authentic Shaolin Monk from the SongShan Shaolin Temple in China. He is an excellent teacher; patient but always giving constructive criticism and helping me to improve. I would highly reccomend his classes to anyone. The only complaints I really have are that I wish I could learn more and that Shifu is very busy with running the whole school all by himself so he has no time to give belt tests for the adult classes. I highly encourage anyone interested in taking martial arts classes to give my teacher a try!

A Caucasian female representative, who was handing out this company's informational cards and also taking pictures at the Art & Wind Festival in San Ramon Memorial Day weekend, during the performance of the group, did not have nice manners with a group of young children trying to sit in front and enjoy the performance. She kept asking the children to move out of her way and then physically put her hands on one of the children by pulling the child's clothing to have her sit down. As a parent, I asked her not to put her hands on my child and she was quite rude and made some inappropriate remarks.

I just started Tai Chi training with Sifu Xing and he is the "John Wooden" of martial arts. He is incredibly patient and his coaching techniques are those that bring out the best in your abilities. The way he teaches Tai Chi allows me to see how I can improve upon my own thoughts and beliefs to help me move through each practice, and these are wonderful tools that I have been able to apply to my daily life. I am learning more than I ever imagined, I highly recommend Sifu Xing.
