      3 check-ins

Well another very good hospital in Baltimore, my father had cancer surgery here and every doctor and nurse in the surgical area were excellent. Once he was in a room he did have one evening nurse that gave him a hard time, he had a catheter in and it leaked in this bed. He called for the nurse but took a long time to get there well he want going to lay in urine so he stood up by the bed. Well his nurse come running in yell at him to get back in the bed, he explained about the urine and she was extremely disrespectful to him. He did have a nurse Sarah that was outstanding, she took care of him like he was her dad. She had so much caring and understanding, she was more than outstanding. She even brought him coffee and a muffin when she came to work, not many nurses would do this.

I am here often and for many things. Most specifically, I am very familiar with ENT, Neurosurgery, Neuro-Oncology, Accupuncture, Pain Management, Neuro-Muscular, and the Emergency Room. The facility is well maintained, clean, and the staff are all friendly and excited to be helpful. Even the folks at the main entrance are full of smiles and offers of support. After Cleveland Clinic said they couldn't do anything more for me, I came here and they saved my life. The quality of care here is top tier and I am so grateful for that!

The only reason I give the 2 stars. Was because of the nursing staff. They did the best job they could. The fault with this hospital is in the lack of communication. You answer all these questions over and over again. Only to have it feel like Noone even cared to read your file. I will just give one example of their lack of communication. I was dressed in my street clothes. Waiting to be discharged. A nurse comes in and said she was ready to put in my iv. That was a minor incident. There were much worse things that happened to me there. I will never go back again. Not even if my cancer comes back.

I was rushed here via ambulance on 7/21/22 from my job due to extreme abdominal pain. The paramedics got me to the ER by 8:50am. The paramedics were very kind during transport and getting me a mask before being taken inside. Once inside, one of the paramedics took my vitals while the other went to get a nurse for check in. The wait seemed like forever while sitting in the wheel chair before a nurse finally appearing telling the paramedics to wheel me into the waiting area. I was informed that there was a wait to be seen, but I never knew the wait would be what it was.

I think after 30 min or longer I was called into the triage. And after a quick check-in, I was wheeled back into the waiting area.
*Due to COVID still, none of those seeking medical attention can have any guests. But it was weird that I never saw not one EVS person clean the waiting area during the long hours of waiting to be seen. I was had to endure constant name checks to see if the patients were still waiting, but never asked about my pain or asked if I was comfortable or needed anything. If it wasn't for one staff member being a close sister/friend, I don't think I would have been seen at all.

I was finally taken back after 5pm and accessed by multiple doctors. I ended up staying in the ER overnight awaiting for various tests. During my wait, I was told to use the restroom, and both restrooms were disgusting- the 1st one the floor near the commode was stained with urine and had no paper towels. The 2nd one was just as bad, no soap and also not clean. In addition, I was turned into human pim cushion. The 1st nurse was unsuccessful trying to put in an IV or take blood, so a 2nd nurse intervened and she was just as bad, but was able to get the blood but it was so painful. A 3rd nurse/tech somewhat got an IV line in near my hand, which I informed I do not like nor can handle and was painful whilebit was being inserted. I wish they would make sure all nurses and techs know how to draw blood without inflicting pain or leaving patients black and blue or bruised. Once my pain was under control, I was discharged after 10am the next day and advised to go to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription which was never there and I had to call the ER to advise the hiccup.

Overall, there were some staff members that deserve 5 stars and others that need to get some training. I would give 1 star for the entire experience. I was not happy that I had to walk to the pharmacy on my own while still in somewhat pain. I do believe their is a lack of miscommunication which needs to be addressed also, being that this huge hospital is a trauma center needs to separate their trauma center from the ER. I feel everyone should feel like their medical needs should be met without the extensive wait time.

Beware of a Doctor by the name of Dr. Joseph Slattery in the Pediatric Department! He was disgustingly rude and disrespectful. Dr. Slattery threatened to call CPS because I asked to have my newborn son discharged after he was treated and once test results came back negative. Without going into much detail, I'll just say that he only used CPS as a scare tactic, but regardless you don't make those type of threats unless a parent is suspected of abuse or neglect. I later found out he can't even make that phone call unless a social worker does an assessment. He also told me the reason for his decision to not let me take my son home was because he would lose his physician's license! Absolutely inappropriate. Do not put your children in this man's care! I have forwarded a complaint to UMMC as well as the State Department of Health.

On April 11, 2023, my daughter was seen at their cardiac unit following a massive heart attack. My daughter is 25, severely hearing impaired, visually impaired, has anxiety, and two forms of Hemaphilia. I firmly believe that my daughter's rights under Hipaa and ADA were denied. She was belittled and we were denigrated for my asking to stand next to my daughter to help her check out. They violated her rights and treated her cruelly and in an inhumane manner. I'm not certain what the dynamics are in this cardiac unit, but their staff has been known to be abusive and they are protected. It would be appropriate to get Quality Control in there to ascertain the underpinnings of this unit and their staff's inappropriate behaviors. Please do not take your loved one there. There are other amazing cardiologists and hospitals in Baltimore. My child was harmed there. Stay away !!! The owner of this business posted a number for follow up to this complaint . However, we have already contacted the hospital and they dismissed us . Again, do not take your loved one to their cardiac unit . The maltreatment of my daughter still haunts me . Confronting the hospital with what happened to my daughter is David vs. Goliath . I am willing to share our story with anyone else with a loved one with a disability.

I went here by ambulance to the ER. These folks give horrible care in the ER. Not ever again! They took Me to triage, then did an EKG and drew blood. After that they stuck me in the waiting room. After 6 hours I called a Lyft and left. They bathroom's were nasty and stinking. The armed security is sitting in a locked booth either talking on his cell phone or looking at his cell phone. A couple was arguing and it was escalating and he just continued to talk on his phone. I rolled my wheelchair up to the booth and pointed behind me looking at him to say, don't you hear what's happening. After another 3-4 minutes he got up and opened the booth door. The couple stopped, apologized and decided to leave. As a matter of fact, people who were already sitting in the waiting room before i arrived also left without being seen. The people are so nonchalant and some are downright rude. First and last time coming there.
