It's another great day at the UD. Today's food was a "make your own omelette" served up with the service of a friendly smile in the ambiance of a warm, comfortable & unpretentious locale. All the good things & none of the bad here. Thanks folks & keep up the good work!

With my apologies to Higbees, which you can only now truly see in A Christmas Story, I say to YOU, my foodie friend: If you haven't seen Uncle Dudley's in Willard, OH 44890 in a while, you haven't seen Uncle Dudley's. Nay, you haven't even been to Uncle Dudley's at all!
Because... they're not clowning around anymore.
Gone are the dingy walls, the dirty floors, and the dilapidated wall of pictures depicting a flourishing, yet forgotten past that doesn't even come near to stopping on the train tracks just outside the still-most-oft-used back door.
Gone is the scary lady leering at you from behind the cash only cash register that served more as a sentry & security guard than it did as an engine of commerce.
And here to stay -- we dearly hope -- are the stylishly bright walls, the giant board of welcoming specials, and the whir of the speedy network using, plastic credit card taking computer catapulting what has always been a local favorite into the bright & shining future of becoming a regional, if not national delight that should bring even the likes of Guy Fieri to the yard. (And yes, as you can see in the pix, the milkshakes machine is still here... same old style shakes, new, more powerful motors & rotors.)
Why, you may ask should the King of Dives come to a place like this, particular humbly roaring locale? Because the new owners & the new chef have taken a menu of what was once drably passable home cooking, and transformed it into litany of comfort classics that are worth the trip, no matter how long your trip may be.
What was once the lone star player in the program, the Beef Hotspot, has been upgraded -- if that were even possible -- into a larger, beefier, even more worth-the-value of its price version of itself than it was before. And friends, it WAS. THE. BEST. HOT. BEEF. SANDWICH. EVER! So now... it's... it's... it's... ultra. If it wouldn't offend the cattle that have been sacrificed to make this glorious offering -- of tender, juicy, fleshy Ambrosia, surrounded by THICK slices of TOAST, split by hash browns (much better than mashed potatoes), and drenched in gravy made from a recipe for which only a few Amish grandmothers know the secret formula -- I'd call it THE GOAT OF HOTSPOTS!
Joining this GOATOH of a meal that is now too big to eat in just one setting, are items such as the super-cheesy & awesomely sauced Dudley Double, the giant Fried Bologna, the Dudley Dogs, and the only classical strip steak dinner that's left in Willard.
On the side, but not on the bench are the deep fried mushrooms -- which now outpace what were once THE BEST BREADED MUSHROOM ON THIS EARTH from the Varsity Club just down the road on US Route 224 (somebody hired a ringer from out on Willard's on version of Route 66 me thinks). Along with these light, crunchy psyloes of joy are the just-as-well breaded onion rings, the home fries which aren't just for breakfast any more, and the cold dish entries of Pea Salad & Broccoli-Cauliflower Salad that would make any Amishwoman blush with embarrassment & boil with sinful envy just because they are soooo sweet & sour good.
On the breakfast side are the Dudley's Super Omelet, Mommaw's Biscuits & Gravy, and THE BURN PILE, which is the breakfasty, GOAT-of-a-cousin of the BEEF HOT SPOT that is equally as hard to make disappear completely in one setting. And working my way through all that I have pictured here of the Super Omelet was one of the most delightfully painful journeys I've made since my many treks to the Early Bird in Fullerton, CA. Beat me. Whip me. Make me eat another Dudley's Super Omelet any day!
Now, if they could just borrow he EB's Mexican Coffee just like they borrowed the Fried Mushrooms from the VC -- my joy would be complete!
The cozy things that were the old Dudley's saving grace are still here: friendly & fast wait staff, well-worn plastic glasses, a great comfort food cook, and the three racks of pies... the new case for which is an awesome change as well. Added to these are some surprisingly progressive cozy things for a place where the he people are homey enough, but are not really known for their progressive attitudes. Some welcome additions include: snappy, rooster-bearing t-shirts, the aforementioned credit card processing machine & the napkin dispensers espousing green environmental thinking & behavior. (And just like the solar solutions I am now selling through One Nation Solar, I would remind us all that -- ideologies & brinkmanship aside -- it's the stupid economy that matters in the end -- TalkToGrant.info if you're interested in making UD-level upgrades to your economy like those napkin holders)
All-in-all, this is a place where YOU, my foodie friend, should visit at least once in your life, just to remember that there are some really, really good things to celebrate in this world.

Tried this place with the new owners.
We ordered 1/2 order of onion rings with ranch to dip them in. We ordered two specials with cabbage rolls and 2 soft drinks.
Appetizer: We received the 1/2 order of onion rings which were small in size and no ranch. The waitress said she would be back with the ranch to which she never brought it to the table. The taste was good, but would have been better with the ranch that we ordered.
The home fries were good and the cabbage rolls were very hot and a good portion size. The cabbage rolls were bland in taste (no taste), definitely need to have seasoning added.
The soft drink glasses need to have larger straws as you have to keep grabbing your straws to raise it out of the glass to take a drink.
I appreciate having a napkin dispenser on the table, however, it is difficult to get napkins out of the dispenser. Maybe just need another type of napkin or dispenser to solve this problem.
The place finally received a facelift on the inside. The inside received a much need remodeling job and looks very nice and seems bigger with removing the wall and salad bar.
Will try the place again to see if there are improvements with food and service.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gi S.Medina, OH0302Nov 8, 2022

Best breakfast in town - and it's served all day!!Just hope that Mollie is your waitress because she'll be your friend for life!! Not to mention, their entire team of waitresses are phenomenal. Uncle Dudley's Burgers are probably the best, hands-down, in the whole county. Their perch sandwiches are great too. And Be sure to come for all-you-can-eat wing nights.
Make sure you bring cash or a checkbook because you'll be washing dishes if you plan to pay with a card. ;-)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joshua F.Columbus, OH1167Dec 2, 2020
Great hometown diner. Cash only, but this is a staple in the willard community. Give it a shot!

Eating at Uncle Dudley's was one of the most fascinating culinary experiences I have ever had. Previously, I could only imagine that places like this existed.
Stepping into the restaurant at almost 2 PM on a weekday, the place was hopping. The clientele appeared to be made up entirely of regulars, and our entrance had in my mind the effect of a record scratch. We were told to sit anywhere, and a waitress brought a couple of menus after a bit of a delay. Judging from the menu cover, Uncle Dudley apparently does clown gigs on the side.
My wife ordered one of the sandwiches whose meaning was unknown to us before trying: pizza steak. This innovative masterpiece featured a large piece of pepperoni smashed onto the bottom of a beef patty, with a dollop of mozzarella cheese inside. There may have been some sausage mixed in with the ground beef. It was truly a genius hybrid sandwich, although my wife described the burger as "horrible." The waitress seemed confused by my question of whether pizza steak is a thing around here, or if it is unique to Uncle Dudley's. She did end up stating that she thought you could get it at some Amish farm stores around, but had never seen it on another restaurant menu.
Another menu mystery was the "hot beef spot" sandwich. Yet another curiosity was "fish square," although I had a good guess what this meant. I ordered the perch, which was mostly delicious except that the breading had the consistency of fine gravel, and the tartar sauce was an unexplainable yellow color. I got curly fries with it, which were bland and underseasoned.
Undeterred by the main course, I asked for the dessert options, and the waitress rattled off an impressive list of pies, including one final cryptic item: possum pie. Apparently, this is a mixture of chocolate pudding and cream cheese on a graham cracker crust. I ordered the peach pie. The peaches had the fun texture and perfectly smooth surface that can only come from a can. It lacked peach flavor but managed to be outdone by the blandness of the curst.
But really, any criticisms aside, this place is exactly the kind of place you want to go to if you want to experience the vibe a small-town U.S. diner. Uncle Dudley can come be the entertainment at one of my kid's birthdays. He can tell us stories about what he likes to do in Willard, Ohio. Just don't make us any pizza steaks.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 1 - Steve S.Findlay, OH010Sep 29, 2015
Really good food. And lots of it. Just the typical down home diner. The sides are somewhat limited but after all this is not a fancy restaurant. I will definitely be coming back.
