Tselaine

I'm a sucker for trinkets so I spotted this store immediately as I was walking back to my hotel. The cashier (not sure if she's the owner or not) but she honestly was probably the nicest person I've encountered at a store. Greeted my boyfriend and I, made some small talk, and overall made us feel very welcomed.

I would have looked around for a good hour. They have a lot of cute bags, hats, pins, buttons, shirts, masks, and more. I ended up with a mask, button, and sticker. I really want to go back before my vacation is up.

I am going to check their online website, hopefully they ship to New York!

Tselaine has been one of my favorite, must stop if nearby shops in Philadelphia for over a decade and I have purchased numerous accessories from them over the years (as has my brother who relies on them every year to source my holiday gift). They curate a great selection of designers, having introduced me to many that I continue to follow and often being one step ahead of the game, stocking pieces from designers I've discovered elsewhere.

While they have items that range in price from affordable to pricey and the boutique experience sometimes comes with an increased price tag, I have unfortunately found as of late the pricing of some of their items to be up-charged and not in line with pricing found elsewhere, including other boutiques. For example, my brother generously bought me a beautiful scarf for the holidays which Tselaine sold for $170 that can be found elsewhere, including the designer's website (with free shipping), for $148. I can see tacking on a few bucks onto the designer's price which has already built in room for profit but 14.8% seems high. Even with added shipping costs, the pricing with Tselaine tends to be higher than other online boutique shops. Consequently, as much as it pains me to admit it, I am now approaching Tselaine more as fun window shopping to discover new designers and see what some of my favorites are up to while waiting for a rare sale to consider making a purchase.

If you are actively looking to support Philly small businesses (which is fantastic) and don't mind spending a little more, this shop has plenty to offer. Otherwise, I'd recommend doing a quick price comparison online before making a purchase. Nonetheless, I'd still recommend stopping by and getting inspired by their lovely array of items that they pack in a tiny space as I plan to continue to do.

Tselaine is one of my favorite Philly shops for gifts and treats for myself. I have to start every visit repeating "I will not buy everything. I will not buy everything. I will not buy everything."

There's a nice mix of jewelry, accessories and chatchkes. Some of the stuff is Philly related, some is animal related, but all of it is nice. Some things that stuck out on my most recent visit include a cashmere scarf, smaller scarves with birds, Phillies cuff links, so many adorable socks, a nighttime eye mask that smells like lavender, and just so much jewelry.

I'm not in often enough to speak to inventory changes, but I know whenever I go in looking for a gift, I'm able to find something great.

The staff is also what makes the difference. Can you buy a nice scarf at one of the discount stores down the block? Sure. But to have the customer service and shopping experience that comes with Tselaine is priceless.

Service is amazing. Interesting items in store. I've bought many a gifts here.

Tselaine is one of my FAVORITE Philly boutiques. A small window covered corner in Rittenhouse overflowing with accessories and gifts. I have bought sooooo many items in the past years, multiple earrings and necklaces, handbags, scarves, gloves, a wallet, hats, many gifts, cards.. I pass by the store often because it's in my hood, I can't resist stopping in. The staff is super friendly too, love this place! Highly recommend!

I was only here briefly but found exactly what I was looking for quite quickly. They have a wide array of earrings and necklaces - 2 of my favorite accessories. I found some cute tassel earrings and they let me try them on before buying them, which I thought was so sweet. I can't wait to come back!

Folks, I'm gunna make it easy for you because Tselaine has made it easy on me. This is a great go to store for gifts, fun jewelry, accessories etc for your partner.
They have great cards and candles that smell like the Redwoods. You can't go wrong here.

Lovely little shop chock-full of goodies. Stopped in for the first time this weekend, though I've often noticed it in passing. It has items which would be good gifts for almost every type of person with almost any type of style. I had to convince myself I didn't need those delicate, lace-like gold earrings, or the retro clutch, which likely would've matched many of the outfits I was creating in my head. I definitely will be back to purchase some non-traditional, fun-shaped sparklers for this summer's fourth of July and maybe some gear-created cufflinks for a certain gentleman...

PS. If you ask nicely, the store seems happy to hold larger items you purchased, but don't want to lug around during the rest of your shopping trip, for pick-up on your way back to the car.

I can't say enough good things about this shop. All of the employees are so sweet and helpful without being overbearing. They are so helpful in finding the perfect gift in your price range. They have something at every price range, and have so many unique pieces in many different styles. Though their space is small, their selection is large, and I recommend telling them what you are looking for because it's easy to miss little treasures. I have gotten beautiful jewelry, accessories, baby clothes, and toys for friends here, and also have a growing collection of jewelry an accessories for myself, including several beautiful pieces from France that I love. My friends love when I tell them their gift came from a local small business. It is truly the best gift shop in Center City.
