We had a party of 9 of us ladies on a Saturday night. We were lucky to have Danielle as our server. She was on top of our needs the entire night. Fabulous food. We shared so many tapas, but would have to say the fried guacamole was a fan fave. I liked the Mac/Cheese, but was glad we got it to try it. It has blue cheese in it and would make for a heavy entrée if that is all you ordered (on the big plate menu).
We would definitely go back. It was fun - they had someone singing/playing the guitar and he was good, but not too loud.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 24, 2020
I haven't been here for years! We had multiple
small plates and I enjoyed most of them. That is why I gave it 4 and not 5 stars because I didn't love everything. I loved the Boursin and beef sliders, crispy fried avocado and fried brussel sprouts. The cheese and mushrooms made the beef flavor all come together in a great sandwich. The multiple sauces and pico made the fried avocado even better. Fried brussel sprouts were perfect and I loved the garlic aioli.
I enjoyed the tuna tataki but the beans with the tuna were unexpected and didn't go together for me. I didn't love the crab cakes because it had too much chili powder for me. I wanted a different flavor in the Italian Grinder Slider so it seemed bland to me.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Apr 7, 2019
The atmosphere, service, and live music were all on point. We enjoyed the large booth and wine flight.
We ordered some small plates and one large plate. The crab rolls with avocado and the shrimp dish were great. The ahi tuna was a little too chewy for us but the sauce that came with it was fresh and tasty. The prime rib was far too fatty and difficult to cut through. It did not taste good even with the creamy horseradish on the side. The fried gnocchi was okay but not enough to compensate for the main dish. The manager did apologize and took it off the bill bringing us a new dish. Management and staff were apologetic and took care of things right away.
We really liked the place for drinks and to hang out. Some of the dishes missed the mark for us. It's a place we would be willing to try again because the atmosphere and service are amazing!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 13, 2019
This is a great place to eat at when you are with a group so that you can order lots of small plates and share. Was really bummed they didn't have their truffle mac & cheese but i hope it was just because of the time of year of this recent visit.

Maggie,
I'm glad you had an enjoyable time. I'm not sure what happened, but we always have our truffle mac and cheese on the menu. It is under our big plate section on our dinner menu, and under our salads and small plates on our lunch menu. Maybe it was somewhere else the last time you were in.
Hope to see you again soon. - Aug 1, 2019
Unique tapas, tons of flavor, great happy hour specials, when we get over here in time for them! On this stop, we managed to grab a patio table mid day mid-week on a perfect summer afternoon. The service is always great, the atmosphere lively; always a familiar place we enjoy coming to, year after year.

Trostel's Dish is my new neighborhood favorite. We couldn't decide what to do for dinner and then agreeed on Trostel's as it's down the street so
we ended up here for a small plate and drinks. The best part of this place is the atmosphere, also has not been crazy busy the last few times I've been. My favorite place to sit is the bar, also a booth looks perfect for a date. We started with brachetta, then ended up splitting a margarita pizza. A little greasy however no points lost as the night was awesome. We will be back soon! Service was excellent.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 256263902Apr 6, 2016
I barely got here but I feel Trostel deserves 5 stars. For starters, they were open (compared to a table 128 that is closed for a private event). Wed is half price bottles of wine. Since I was unsure the very accommodating bar tender let me try 2 different reds before I settled for a Pinot Noir. At half price this bottle is a steal.
I ordered the Tuna Tataki and the Crab Cakes. They are both 'small plates' but i am full already. Both were delicious. The tuna came with sushi rice and some sort of bean vinaigrette. The crab cakes came with a slaw. Both delicious!
Overall, this place has a great vibe, friendly staff and good food! The half price wine bottle on Wed is the icing on the cake. Go now!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Our waitress was top notch. Always keeping our drinks filled and getting us new drinks. The prime rib large plate was soooo tasty, our group ordered two on top of the other food we ate. None of us cared for the truffle Mac n cheese. We also enjoyed the spinach dip and ordered seconds of that! The holiday mule was good when it was made right. The only bummer was they sat our party of six in a booth which was a little cozy. At least they were able to accommodate our reservation on short notice. Music choice was also questionable. Staff and food was great!

Subdued, upscale atmosphere that's very comfortable and relaxing. You'll see empty nesters out on a date (like us), tables of suburban moms on a night out, or couples in the cool booths against the wall. Very nice environment.
This was one of the original tapas places in DM, and they still have a big menu. It hasn't changed much over the years, but that's ok because there are some great items on it. They've added regular sized meals to their menu too, but I suspect most get the small plates and share. They also have very extensive (expensive?) wine list. We sat at the bar and our food on this visit could have been a little warmer, but have to expect that when sitting at the bar I guess.
Service is usually very good. The late owner had high standards for service and it has continued. They usually have a good crowd during happy hour, and they opened up a patio behind the restaurant for summer days.
You'll pay about $75-$90 for a couple rounds of drinks (albeit good ones), a few tapas plates to share, plus tip. A little pricey to go too often but it's a nice place with good food, service and ambiance for a special occasion or not.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michelle M.Des Moines, IA32916Apr 26, 2019
Saturday early evening date night. We were able to enjoy their Happy Hour which is from 4-6pm. They have a great wine selection too. We each got a drink and shared a couple of their small plates. Boursin Mushrooms are Ah-ma-zing! Pommes Frites were crispy and delicious. The four cheese cracker crust pizza was exceptional. Timing of the food was perfect and the waitress was friendly. Next time, we hope to catch the live music.
