This company is a total ripoff and the entire staff are completely disrespectful.
If you want to have a plumber show up who doesn't know what he's doing...call TR Johnson and Son
If you want that same "plumber" to sit in his truck for nearly 2 hours waiting for a simple connector to be delivered by another "plumber" and you be charged for that time at $70/hr...call TR Johnson and Son
If that same "plumber" could have driven one minute each way to Ace Hardware to get that part but chooses not to...call TR Johnson and Son
If you want to call over and over and over to get a correct receipt for over 6 months... all TR Johnson and Son
If you want the office staff to be rude and unable to even send an email...call T R Johnson and Son
If you want complete aggravation and to be completely ripped off...call TR Johnson and Son
Wish I had read reviews before paying these jokers $655. Will NEVER use them again. Clearly they don't care about repeat business or referrals.
THEY ARE A JOKEHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ed B.Huntington, WV18710Jan 31, 2023Updated review
I ignored my own "never again" vow. The house developed a bathtub spout leak. This required putting in 2 washers, valve stems and seats. Screwed it up the first time. Came out the next day and fixed it. Charged travel time and labor for both days. "Mess" it up and charge you for being incompetent? Charge you again the next day for fixing what you "Messed" up the first time?
$625 to fix a faucet????
Last time they came out they charged me $700 to dig a hole. Still couldn't find the sewer line.
N.E.V.E.R. again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 7, 2019Previous reviewThey're really expensive. Charge you for travel time even though I only live 1/2 mile away. Clogged sewer line required an auger. They charge you for the use of their tools. Said that the line needed "dug up", so the two of them dug a hole in my yard. No sewer line anywhere to be found. Charged me $750 to dig a hole. Typical of the service in this town.

Shame on me...I no longer live in the Tri State but trying to find dependable licensed contractors with even the first review is difficult. I took a chance and hired TR Johnson hoping for some professionalism and knowledge in a sewer issue we had at my parents home. A few tidbits of advice for others that I wish they'd disclosed.
1- you the customer pay for their travel time at whatever hourly wage they choose to charge. Also when I google mapped directions it was a 15min drive time Vs the 30min they wanted to charge me
2- if you have a sewer "smell" issue they will ALWAYS send two men for the job but don't disclose that until after the fact. When quoted prices they give you a 1 man quote with a big IF factor attached about 2nd man.
In turn when the two reps arrive i tried to point them in the direction of the "strong smell". Instead they piddled with leaky pipes in basement & changed a commode seal that was not in disrepair. After 1.5 hours they came upstairs explaining it was 4pm (quitting time) and they had to leave or we'd be charged double. They didn't offer a solution until I confronted them of the issue still existing and they said they could come back to do a "smoke" test (another time). I feel a smoke test was in order from the moment they walked in the house. The visual observation could have been completed within minutes IMO. Also when I asked about the handheld gas gauge tester I was told they don't work that well. When I called to schedule the appointment, I confirmed they had the camera technology as well...none of which was pulled out or used. Seriously the sewer is so strong in the basement it didn't take a gauge to identify the general location of the smell ...gauges, smoke test or cameras need used. Not a visual eye test for 1.5 hours.
At any rate, I wanted to pay for services rendered but did want to discuss these discrepancies. As usual with contractors they don't want to reason or show any customer service but simply avoid the issue and write you off. The lady continually interrupted me as I tried to explain and reason with her to find a compromise or solution, as I did want them to come back next week for the smoke test but wanted to receive good communication of cost etc.... she demanded TR JOHNSON always discloses the travel pay and 2man policy and then asked me if I was going to pay her or not. When I told her if she was refusing to listen or reason then no. She immediately wanted to write it off and "never service us again"....which I had never asked her to waive all fees and most definitely needed her to come back next week. At any rate, I'll continue to search for a plumber who has some customer service and disclosure skills. Shame on me for going with the only plumber in huntington with a fascinating 2.5star review! I don't know how TR Johnson could possibly get a bad rating. We've used them for at least 40 years with the best quality, most reliable service you could find.

I financially backed my 57 year old mother in a recent home purchase. During the initial inspection the home inspector found there was a plumbing issue in the basement, TR Johnson was called to address the problem. They came, fixed the problem and the house was closed up for the weekend. When the appraiser returned to the home the following Monday morning the entire basement and garage were flooded due to a bad repair, flooding to the extent walls and carpet needed replaced. Again, TR Johnson responded to the problem and their insurance covered the repairs to plumbing, carpet, and damaged drywall.
Fast forward another week and the house floods again. I cannot speak to their competency to do plumbing in new construction or remodeling but I wouldn't call this company to service an existing structure, even as a last resort. They will cost you time, lost wages at work, property damage, and stress... SO much stress. They wouldn't even respond to this 3rd event, repeated phone calls failed to garner a response. We had to call another plumbing company to respond. The new company addressed the plumbing issue but the carpet sits, soaked, awaiting TR Johnson's people to respondHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Grant P.Huntington, WV0141May 9, 2016
Quite unprofessional. I was referred to them by the manufacturer of my tankless water heater as being the only approved service provider in this area. The plumber responded quickly enough, came out and looked at the water heater (literally looked at it without doing anything), called the manufacturer, and then told me he'd have to reschedule to come out and do the work. He told me that someone would call me. As the heater was only occasionally failing, I felt that was fine. A week later, I called for an appointment, and was told that he'd get back to me. Two weeks later, the heater failed, and I called my usual reliable plumber to replace the unit. The original plumber left his tool belt behind, so I called to let them know that he could come pick it up. I expressed my disappointment that no one ever called me back, but the lady I talked to was very unconcerned. I felt like she couldn't hang up on me fast enough.
This was my first interaction with this company, and will unfortunately be my last.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Katie T.Huntington, WV02Jun 14, 2017
They tried to ripe us off. Saying we needed to pay for the second person, when the job was a one man job. Will never use them again.

Run from this company...fast and far!
I was billed far more than I was quoted for a plumbing job, and when I questioned the bill, they were very rude and told me the bill was final. Also the plumbing leaked and I called and reported it. I was told the plumber would call me back, but he never did. That was three weeks ago. I'll never use this company again, and I would suggest that you do the same.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Maggie S.NC, NC02Jun 20, 2012
I had them out first for a clogged bathtub - they did a good job and it cost me around $80 but the technician reeked of smoke. Overall satisfied with the job.
A week later my AC broke so I called them to see if they could come out today and they said yes and that a technician would call me (which was important because it was supposed to be 95 today) the technician never called, I am just glad that I called another place after an hour and a half of waiting. It has now been 8 hours and they have never called me about the repair they were supposed to do today.
I don't normally write reviews but I know that I wish someone would have warned me so that I wouldn't be sitting here cooking in my house waiting on this companyHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
