It's actually been a very long time since I've been here & this review is def. long overdue (PRECOVID even...) but I still feel like for such an OG spot it's much deserved.
From what I remember - this place was pretty much a renovated out garage/home to restaurant, def. local/neighborhood "hole in the wall" kinda joint, very busy, somewhat stuffy, but nicely casual/low key and always a party inside.
Open late, serving up Korean classics and yummy late night grub + beer and sojuuu on deck! Great spot to come with friends to end the night, but be prepared to wait if peak time + on the weekend forsureeee...ALSO parking can def. be a pain around here!
Food talk:
(1) Steamed Egg - nice, fluffy, and oh so flavorful!
(2) Corn Cheese - can't go wrong,...yummy corn and ooey gooey mozzarella cheese!
(3) Fried Chicken - not the best but still good, all sauced up and lightly spicy + comes out piping hot and (usually) crispy.
(4) Fish Cake Soup - my fave thing here! The soup base was light/flavorful with every delish type of fish cake variety for great texture and bite.
(5) Kimchi Pancake - not as crispy as I would like, but still good flavor.
(6) Kimchi Fried Rice - this was tasty, good amount of flavor, meat, and a nice fried egg on top. - 91339511/8/2022
An unassuming converted garage has some of the best Korean food in the city? I've been to hole in the walls but this place is next level!
There's a reason why there's always a line out the door even late, it's because people know where to get their fix of deliciousness. The interior seating area is smaller but perfect for quaint gatherings of 2-4 people unless you get the larger room in the back. I tried the kimchi pancake which was massive and full of kimchi flavor, not doughy at all and still maintained it's shape! The shareable soups and food are more than enough for 2-4 people as they set a giant bowl the size of the table filled with spicy soup, seafood, Napa cabbage, mushrooms, fish, clams, mussels, you nameeee it!
Definitely worth coming back, worth the price for the size you get, and worth the wait! - 40619012011/6/2022
Ordered the rice cake that had the right amount of flavor but wish the cheese was melted from the beginning.
Corn cheese was good but wish there was more cheese.
Wings were tender and fresh, highly recommend - 7791946369/17/2022
Toyose is nothing but nostalgic to me since I remember the first time I came here, it was during my college days :') I remember the food being really good, so my friends and I came back last night.
Keep in mind that this restaurant is built inside a garage but it fits so well. It's nicely decorated and reminiscent of how I remembered it.
My friends and I were coming back from a concert and thankfully they closed at 1:30 am. Our server did have to ask to make sure it was okay for our party of 5 to be seated and they cleaned off our tables too. Whatever we ordered was last call, so we made sure to order some appetizers and a couple main dishes.
We ordered the:
-kimchi fried rice
-kimchi pancake
-French fries
-corn cheese
-I forgot the name, but it was a soybean based soup
Everything came out promptly and pretty fast to say the least. Everything was fresh and made to order, but it also tasted better than what I remembered.
I did enjoy all the kimchi items and corn cheese. The soybean based soup was good, but not something I'd get again.
For late night eats, highly recommend coming here in case you have a huge craving for Korean food. The staff here were super sweet and I'm thankful they were able to accommodate us even though there was roughly an hour close to closing. - 13728183310/2/2022Updated review
Since the last time that one or the waitress here really made me feel unwelcome, I haven't been here for a long time. Yesterday, we were taking a walk around the block, and decided to give it another try. The waitress was not here. People here were nice and patient. We got here before their opened at 6. We ordered the seafood pancake, chicken wings, and glass noddles. Again, compared to other Korean places, this one is good yet remain averagely good. 707 and odumak for sure have better wings and pancakes.
What I like about this place is the atmosphere. Maybe it's because of the fall or the family garage. It really made me feel warm. This is what other restaurants lack.7/15/2021Previous reviewI live nearby, therefor I go there a lot. Their seafood pancake is definitely the best I have had in the city. However. Their service can be better.

I've been to Toyose a handful of times over the years and I always go back every once in a while. Â It's a great casual local spot for late night cravings, but they do not take reservations or Yelp waitlist, so there is usually a wait. Â
For food, I wouldn't expect super great quality, but comfort food that hits the spot. Â Avoid the chicken katsu, it was super dry and mostly breading. Â The safe items to order are the kimchi fried rice and the stew. Â The beef casserole is good too, but would recommend sharing as the portion size is enough for 3-4 if you want to order other items to try as well. Â Service is usually below average, but kind of expected for a small local joint. - 5219621627/24/2022Updated review
I have been coming to Toyose since 2008 and this place definitely is an OG Spot and a favorite of mine. We come here at least once every two weeks. I love the homey garage feel and this place is always so nostalgic. My favorite dishes are definitely the kimchi and seafood pancake, spicy pork, military soup, soju, and chicken wings. Everything on their menu is DELICIOUS TASTY AND ON POINT. I also love their kimchi fried rice. Additionally, their cheese fries are good too. I love gettin a good buzz on here with their yogurt soju and fresh soju. This is the ultimate spot to go on a Friday or if you wanna have a chill fun night on the weekday.
I love coming here and it always brings me back to my high school days. If you are visiting you definitely have to come here and try their Korean food. You will not be disappointed and its definitely an OG special spot. "If you know you know"5/29/2018Previous reviewOne of my top places for Korean food in the city! Everything is good and this place is always crowded. I always make a reservation when the girls and I come here. Our go to dishes to order is the corn cheese, japjae, bulgogi, seafood pancake, kimchi and seafood pancake, kimchi pancakes, and more. Everything is so good and my mouth is watering just thinking about the food lol. Their soju is good as well!

Post OSL we were all tired and hungry and thank god for this spot being open! I think it was a 45 minute wait, but late night Korean food is worth it. The service was quick once we were seated, and all the food came out pretty quickly. I loved Toyose, and the fact that so many other people were here waiting too goes to show how much of a staple they are for post festival eats (and in general late night food).

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would! Toyose has become one of my all time favorites. If you are a fan of spicy Asian food I recommend trying this delicious Korean cuisine. The servers are always checking in and making sure everything is how it should be at all times. The food is absolutely DELICIOUS. I've come here 4 times in the last month. It's becoming a problem haha. It's such an indulgence and they are also open until midnight. The place is a cute restaurant based inside of a garage and you wouldn't even notice. It has become one of my go to's. Thank you Toyose!!!

Been coming here since I was a youngin so Toyose will always have a special place in my heart.
They serve some classic Korean comfort food that will satisfy your late night cravings. My order always consists of my Toyose Holy Trinity: kimchi pancake (seafood is solid I heard but I got that dang shellfish allergy), spicy chicken wings, and beef kimchi fried rice. The pancake got that to-die-for crisp on the outside and a scrumptious inside in every bite, chicken wings have always been amazingly fried (though not always spicy despite its name), and the beef kimchi fried rice has a pristine rice to egg to kimchi to beef ratio tbh. Once in a while we'll throw in the spicy pork, tteokboki, or beef mushroom stew - which are all outstanding - if we have hella ppl in the group, but otherwise, I stick to my Toyose Holy Trinity which is honestly good for 2-3 ppl.
It's definitely a sight to behold - one would never think walking into a garage would be a place to have a restaurant but this local establishment been going strong for over a decade now. They're one of the few restaurants in the outer sunset open late which is always a plus but, boy when they get busy, service can be tough since they typically only got 1-3 waiters for the whole place. The wait can def be long since they have a small space relative to its popularity and demand but in my opinion, still a must go if you're in SF!
