Really nice employees, loved the kindness and knowledge of the waiter. A+ there.
One of us had the $20 steak special, I had the $14 sirloin. Rice pilaf was amazing, corn was good was well. Steaks cooked correctly, good flavor.
The show stealer for me was the candied watermelon rind and cookie they brought for us at the end. Delicious and something I'd never had before!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Timothy S.Albuquerque, NM44151Jul 16, 2017
From all the positive reviews this was not what I was expecting.
Pros -
Decent food. Seafood was fresh and everything was well prepared.
Generous portions that justify the price.
Friendly service.
Family owned and operated.
Cons -
Outdated. You walk back in time through the door.
Dingy. I won't say dirty but could use a complete scrub top to bottom.
Understaffed. The owner was by himself in the kitchen and one waiter to host, bus, and server the entire dining room.
Warm. The AC was off or not working and it was 75-80 in the dining room.
Slow. Started our meal at 730 and finished our meal at 845. Didn't get the check to leave until 915.
Bad neighborhood/street. Because the check took so long and the room was so warm my wife went to wait in the car. While waiting a transient opened her car door to demand money and would not leave until she dialed 911.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Richard P.Santa Rosa, CA08Aug 11, 2018
Summary: great staff, great food, more than you expect.
I am old and I have eaten at a lot of restaurants. Most are not memorable. Town house is. When I get back to Albuquerque again, I will go here.
Unexpected small Greek anti pasta plate perfect.
Soup just hot (spicy) enough to wake you up, but not so hot you can't taste the flavor. Perfect
Meat cooked just right for both eaters.
Candied orange skins were delicious and not expected.
Aged fruited brandy... not expected. Ohhhhhh yyeahhhh!
Baklava for dessert, perfect. Try adding some of the brandy.... if I had four thumbs, I would raise them.
Staff was friendly and right on time.
Decor was nice, linen table cloths, silver plate, but not stuffy. Where we sat we could see storm clouds over the Sandias.
This place is worth a visit. Go friendly, go for food. Stay for the complementary brandy.
BTW, I am not a drinker. Still good.
This place is worth the visit
Wait! Cost is reasonable! $20 steaks!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John R.Albuquerque, NM4423817Jun 12, 2014Purchased a Yelp Deal
The reviews of this place were all great and there was a Yelp deal, we didn't have the kids and I was in the mood for steak so we decided to try some place new. Upon walking in the interior was nicer than expected but I was confused by the design choices.
At first glance it looked like they were trying to achieve a fine dining experience and after looking at the menu that was reflected in the prices. Candles on each table, cloth napkins and tablecloths added to this atmosphere, unfortunately this is pointless as there are pictures of various aircraft from warthogs to p-40's all over the interior and even a water stained ceiling tile. A tile mosaic that seems like a remnant of perhaps a Chinese restaurant oh and lets not forget the 50" HDTV that's playing Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune?
The service was good but I expected that since we were the only people in there for a significant part of our meal. I will say the service did not suffer when another table did arrive. The waiter brought out tastes of a couple of wines which was very nice. I unfortunately forgot the waiters name but I would like to give him some kudos as he was the best part of the dinner.
I ordered the top sirloin with lobster tail which was preceded by bread and salad, the salad was mostly iceberg lettuce with some romaine which I wasn't expecting based on the price of my meal. The bread was fine and the butter wasn't stored in a fridge so it spread easily which was nice. Then came the main course, (to preface this when the waiter asked how I wanted my steak cooked my SO said "just chop off the tail and bring it out") when I was ordering I went for the medium rare but even had a dialog with the waiter about how I prefer my steak on the rare side I just didn't want it under-cooked. I ended up leaving most of it on the plate under my napkin.
My first cut into the steak was disappointing but it was an edge piece so I figured I'd just give the well done part to my SO who prefers meat to be cooked. The steak was medium to well throughout, I gave one bite to my SO and ate 2-3 bites from the center of the steak where it wasn't quite as cooked. The lobster was larger than I expected which was nice, they also cut it out of the tail which I always hate doing so thanks for that. That said size doesn't matter in this case, I ate every bite of it despite it being rubbery mostly because I was starving and the meal was too expensive not to try to get full on.
They did bring us a glass of some brandy they apparently make in house which was very nice of them. I really wanted to like this place, my SO loves hole in the walls that surprise you and after eating some great meals in some shady looking spots I've grown to enjoy finding that hidden gem. I know I could have told the waiter the meal was not up to my standard but honestly nobody I know ever sends a meal back unless there is something catastrophically wrong with it and I'm no different.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Audrey H.Albuquerque, NM412024Aug 16, 2014
While the area of town is a bit sketch, the food was quite good. A small antipasto plate instead of bread basket was given before ordering and had a creamy, imported feta alongside olives, artichoke hearts, and dolmathes-quite tasty!
Dinner was prime rib for myself and pork shish-ka-bob for the hubbs. While the pork was a bit overdone and dry, the prime rib was beyond excellent! Tender, juicy, perfectly cooked and seasoned-very nice! Side of Greek potatoes and broiled carrots were perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful.
Dessert was a shared baklava-a bit syrupy but delicious. Also, complimentary watermelon and glasses of digestif wines were wheeled out-good stuff but we were quite full.
We will be back!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Peter T.Albuquerque, NM2818Feb 14, 2016
We hadn't eaten here since they moved from their old location in the Nob Hill area. Actually, we probably haven't eat there in 20 years. My wife made reservations for Valentine's Day dinner, something I am usually allergic to. We were joined by our son & daughter-in-law. We all ordered variations on their prime rib. Several, straight up; others paired with scallops or shrimp. They started us off with small antipasto plates. Very nice. The prime rib was good. My wife's shrimp were huge & excellent-she let me have one. Nice deserts. And surprisingly, they have a very nice wine list. Will have to go back for their house specialty, shishkabob, sometime soon.

Fabulous gem on RT 66. Wow amazing dinner. Six of us enjoyed several different dishes and all were exceptional. Soup, salad, bread, fish and chips, prime rib, pan fried trout all just delicious. Craig was a wonderful server and made the experience so very pleasant. Also making the evening very pleasant and more personal was a wonderful visit with the proprietor, Dino. There are wonderful surprises included with your dinner. Don't want to tell you and ruin the surprise. You will enjoy them! I highly recommend and will be back again soon. Thank you Townhouse for a wonderful, delicious evening. Your friends from KOA campground.

This place closed down. It's all boarded up now. Used to be a good place to get a steak or prime rib. Had been in business for a long time.

We were tired of Mexican fare and high carb meals. Looked on Yelp for a good place to have steak and salad. Townhouse met and exceeded our expectations! At first we were intimidated by their New York prices, but shared the $16.95 steak special which was more than enough for 2+ plenty of leftovers for breakfast. Huge servings! Delicious, authentic, fresh and complimentary anti pasti. Even fresh and complimentary strawberries to finish the meal.
Restaurant decor was definitely Eastern style steak house, just first class! White tablecloths, nice settings, comfy leather booths and clever, Italian vino decor. Clearly townhouse is among the last of multi-generational family restaurants which have survived for 50 years. Owner Dino was charismatic and funny. Server Candy could not have been more gracious and solicitous.
Only regret that we were among their very few customers. They deserve a huge following!
Disregard the spotty neighborhood and drive straight to Townhouse for dinner in Albuquerque.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cristina M.Albuquerque, NM4616968Nov 20, 2014
Wow, what a fun experience. I know--that's not what you were expecting to hear, but it's true. My son and I met my parents here on a week night, in the middle of a Tremendous Downpour in late July. Driving up Central in this rainstorm was a feat in and of itself, with water flowing over the sidewalks. At least we missed the hail.
I'd never been here, but my parents said this place has been around for decades and they were located in Nob Hill until fairly recently. This place looks like its been in the same location for decades--it has that 1970s or earlier feel to it, sort of like Paul's Monterey Inn, but not quite as nice--more of a diner feel.
The server had just placed an appetizer in the middle of the table--a plate of kalamata olives, bread, pepperoncinis, feta, and eggplant. I ordered a glass of wine. The server was really pleasant and friendly. A few minutes after my son and I sat down, there was suddenly this large man behind my son who placed his big hand on my son's head and started talking about a gift that he has for my son...The owner brought him a ceramic nutcracker that he said he had given to a little girl 20+ years ago and she recently came back with her family to this restaurant and brought him the nutcracker, thanking him for the gift, and asking him to pass it on to another child. So, the owner gave it to my son and asked him to do the same some day. I think my son was scared to death of this guy at first and I have to admit I had no idea what was happening initially. Anyway, it was very sweet. The owner's wife was also super friendly and talkative.
For dinner, I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. My parents each had the prime rib special, and my son had the unadventurous grilled cheese and fries (sigh). My salad came loaded with stuff--pickled carrots and cauliflower, eggplant, pepperoncinis, salad, lots of grilled chicken, feta, a feta dressing, tomatoes, etc. It was pretty good, though a little heavy. I took most of it home but for the most part, was too soggy to eat the next day. The prime rib looked quite good--I should have had that--and my son loved his grilled cheese.
And that nutcracker? It was a ceramic nutcracker full of Jim Beam, still sealed. Awesome.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
