these people will not be straight forwarded with you, i tried to rent one of there cheapest rents , i had over $8,000 and even told them i would pay extra months rent, they ran me around for almost 2weeks, asking for pay stubs , i got those to them reference letters , i got those to them , and i wold call and they would tell me that there application proses would take a couple of days, after waiting..as long as i did. Yeah i'm a Native American. after they ran me around they denied me, telling me that my credit score was too low, but they could of did that the first 2 days , after i payed for the application that was $25

Recently moved out and they kept my entire deposit plus say I owe hundreds more. Charging me for cleaning the place again when I spent over a week cleaning and even patched the small holes left by my picture hangings. Went over their dirty list with a head cleaner from the luxury resort Paws Up and was told they were bullshitting me. I left the place cleaner than when I moved in with dead bugs everywhere and dirt. They didn't bother to replace the fridge or dishwasher I reported was litterly hanging together with duck tape ever, yet replaced when I moved out. Mice issues they never came to fix and mold, flooded 2x from sewer, main road has pot holes every where and they never fix it. They also let my neighbors harass and intimidate my family for months, then told me "well you got what you wanted they moved". They neighbor that moved they spent 4 months renevating their place top to bottom because it was destroyed, yet mine was not and they kept everything! I am not impressed and disappointed that they would do this to a single mother during these hard times. Anyone who knows me knows I am a neat freak and they didn't even give me my pet deposit back and I had not pets for months! DO NOT RECOMMEND! They will not fix leaky roofs because they do not have insurance for it as well. Feel like they are vengeful for the neighbors moving and having to spend thousands fixing it up and me moving shortly after. Disgrace of a company!

I called this company to inquire about available rentals. The woman who answered the phone was very rude, and would not give any information on available properties. I was told that I must fill out the entire rental application and that a woman named Jen would call me back with information and showing times. I filled out the application and took it to the office the same day by noon. I did not get a call back for two days. When I did get a call from Jen she left a message on my voicemail at 9am stating that she had a showing at a property and wanted to know if I would be able to see it at 1030 am. I immediately called her back, she did not answer the phone so I left a message stating I could not meet at that time but I was available shortly after - and that I was also interested in other vacancies they had. She never returned my call. I never heard another word from anyone.
Fortunately I found a great house with Queen City Property Management - and this company was prompt at returning calls and their customer service was great.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Google U.Helena, MT01Nov 29, 2018
Topher Realty is not a good company to rent from. My girlfriend and I had been living in a duplex for over a year when the property was sold and Topher Reality took over management of said property. They wanted to convert the duplex into a single family unit, which makes sense from a management perspective (I guess), but to do so they essentially found a way to evict us without actually evicting us. To get us out they raised our rent by a whopping 30% and stripped away all amenities included in our previous agreement, with only a 15 days notice. It was extremely difficult and stressful to find a new place to live and move all within this 15 day period. Then they even tried to claim our deposit wasn't on file and we'd have to pay it again before we could move. I really felt bad for the other residents in the upper section of the duplex (a 50 some year old taking care of her 70 some year old mother in ill health) as they pulled this same scam on them.

I still haven't actually done business with this company but I wanted to update my review because I actually received a positive response from the business owner to my negative review. Instead of being overly defensive about my comments he actually made some changes based on my complaints. It's great to see the power of Yelp in action!

Weekend and evening showings have always been available by appointment but obviously it's difficult to schedule if you're unable to get into contact with anyone. Since your review we have retooled our messaging system and added a full time receptionist to our staff. Today and for some time now, no call is likely to go without timely reply, so long as it's courteous and business in nature. Our office is now open 9am to 5pm Monday - Friday except on scheduled Holiday breaks. Please keep in mind it's unlikely we'll ever be able to meet every individual's unique scheduling needs because this is our business and we try to keep our business within business hours to allow our staff their right to a personal life, but we certainly aim to exceed the service level you experienced and for your feedback, we are grateful. We hope if you ever return to the market in need of rental property you'll give us a second try. As to the curiosity about only renting to the unemployed, I can say that we have an application process and all applicants are required to have the means or ability to afford the required rent payments. Some approved applicants have such means or ability through employment and some have other means or ability to afford the required rent payments. The important part is that the applicant has the financial means or ability, they don't engage in illegal activity, they respect the property and their neighbor's right to peaceful enjoyment.
Oct 3, 2011Previous reviewI would have loved to have been able to see some of this companies listings but they aren't open on the weekends and since they don't answer the phone during the week and it takes them over a week to return calls I was unable to set up any appointments. They are only open Mon-Fri 9:30-4:30, which is apparently normal in Helena, but it leaves me wondering, do they only rent to the unemployed?

These people are mean. I am a responsible, educated, considerate person. I rented property from Topher Realty from 2013 - 2014. The rent was far too high for the value of the property, but I was thankful to find a place to rent in the limited time I had to find a rental (relocating to Helena from afar). Upon moving out, I had the property and carpets professionally cleaned and the lawn freshly watered and mowed. I felt it was left in better condition than I found it, particularly since I put up with garbage, toys, and a trampoline left in the yard for 3 months after I moved in - and also had to daily accommodate them RUNNING A BUSINESS from the extra garage they gave me a $100 "credit" each month (as per the lease agreement) for "storage." After I moved out, they waited over a week (in July!) to inspect the property. I received a very, very mean letter from them explaining how they needed to take over $1500 (!) from my deposit to fix the parched lawn and other minor grievances (e.g., there was some ash left in the pellet stove).
All said, I would not even bother to post a review had I not felt treated with the utmost of disrespect - and had I not left the experience feeling they were very unfair and MEAN in the way they treated me. I can definitely understand frustration with messy, unresponsible tenants, but I fail to understand being so mean and disrespectful of responsibile, well-intentioned, trusting tenants. Having been a landlord myself, I felt they were totally out of line, abusive, and unfair in their treatment of tenants. Buyer (especially renter!) beware! These people will NOT treat you fairly. what a hugely disappointing experience to have in a town that is otherwise full of stand-up, honest, and very nice people. Alas!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
