Let me start by saying I've been coming to Tomo for over 20years. This is the best sushi I've ever had. They have the freshest fish! The owner Anthony is great to converse with, and all the employees are amazing. If you haven't experienced Tomo you're definitely missing out.

This place has always been our go-to spot, at least once or twice a month. While the sushi may not be amazing, it's decent, and it's usually the Kalbi dish that keeps us coming back. Unfortunately, the sushi chefs and servers are not excessively friendly or attentive. However, I must mention that there is one younger female server who consistently offers us the best service, which we appreciate. Considering our frequent visits, one would think they would treat us a bit more friendly. We've noticed that they seem to treat certain customers differently and more warmly than others. Nevertheless, we don't come here for the service. Despite our previous loyalty, we haven't returned to this place for months.
During our last visit, an older female server took our order. Usually, we order Ama Ebi, but instead, they brought out the cooked ebi. We politely brought this to the server's attention, expecting them to rectify the mistake. However, to our disappointment, she blamed us for the incorrect order and insisted that we had indeed ordered it. We decided not to eat the shrimp and left it as it was. It seemed like they didn't care about retaining regular customers over a small mishap. It's disheartening that we no longer dine at this place, especially considering its proximity to our home. However, we simply cannot support establishments that provide such treatment, especially when we have been loyal patrons for as long as we were.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 8, 2023
At nearly 4 stars with 345 reviews, I really had high hopes for Tomo Sushi.
My family of 3 arrived without having to wait for seating. Chairs are spacious but still provided good support for my constantly moving toddler. The menu is pretty straightforward, offering appetizers, bentos, rolls, sashimi, & nigiri. The one thing that stands out is the large array of sake.
Our dinner consisted of:
Garlic Edamame
Sashimi Moriwase Dinner
Saba Shioyaki Mackerel Dinner
California Roll
**dinner meals come with miso soup, rice, & a side salad**
The garlic edamame was delicious. This dish was jam packed with garlicky deliciousness and flavors were spot on. Sashimi Moriwase was good- the slices of fish were fresh but a few selected pieces were obvious thinner than others. Mackerel was cooked thoroughly and still very moist. The California roll was the worst purchase of the evening- the roll didn't consist of any creamy binding ingredient which is something that ensures the roll to be moist and a preferred way for us to enjoy. I won't hold the lack of a binding ingredient against Toko- this is just their way of executing CA rolls but!! I didn't like the fact that the rolls weren't even tightly rolled. The avocado and imitation crab simply fell out of the nori & rice outter layer.
Customer service wasn't attentive. Orders were taken and we were essentially forgotten aside from food being brought out. We had to request for hot tea refills, we had to flag someone down for napkins [who forgot about us/our request so we had to ask the same lady for a second time]. The 2 women running the floor seemed talkative and friendly with other tables who were obviously regulars but aside from that... nada.
3 stars. Not terrible but not good either...Helpful 8Thanks 1Love this 4Oh no 0 - Jul 10, 2023
My go to local neighborhood sushi joint. It's cozy, but really have a lot of dish to choose from and the fish selections is fresh. The sushi chefs and crew are very friendly and always able to get seated right away.
I will definitely be back!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - 3144961295Dec 6, 2023
The ambiance is cute and the service was good. The sushi was presented beautifully but none of it tasted good. Most bites were overwhelming with the taste of mayonnaise. They have a very limited list of sushi rolls compared to most restaurants. The rolls are expensive for the quality that you're receiving.

Yes, it's worth a visit or more
Huge selection of both standard and mixed rolls . Fresh yummy fish with all the staple nigiri and rolls you ate most likely to be accustomed to. I will return
I will eat here again I'm sure. In fact I have already! The service is good too!
It's an enjoyable place with good quality fish . Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kewai M.San Jose, CA382013Feb 24, 2024
Love the ambiance and decor. Feels like a legit sushi place. The food is top notch and as fresh as can be!! The ladies are very nice and very attentive. My sister and I never felt ignored despite it being quite busy.

The good:
I've been craving sushi during my pregnancy and luckily this spot had a variety of signature rolls without the raw fish. I got an eel roll, shrimp tempura roll, scallop roll and a roll that had crab. I saw that the workers were making my order as fast as they could (3 sushi chefs). My food was ready in good timing and it was beautifully presented all together on one wood platform. The prices were fair. The interior felt authentic to Japanese style and I felt transported. I liked the cool mid-century modern looking Japanese chairs and the booths with the red lanterns. The workers were all friendly and sweet with my 1-year old daughter. The rolls ranged in many different prices so there was definitely something for everyone. The exterior of the restaurant is very unassuming in an older and outdated plaza that isn't very busy.
The bad:
They don't have outdoor dining. Some restaurants label the rolls as having raw fish or not. This would've helped with ordering.
The interesting:
Tomo means friend in Japanese.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Edward W.Los Gatos, CA05017Jan 23, 2024
This place is wonderful, it is the kind of restaurant that sadly has been dying off in the bay area, to be replaced by the likes of 'Sushi Confidential' and such.. socialite-focused, and not food focused. Sushi Tomi is a lovely Japanese restaurant, with incredibly good prices with the kind of quality I miss and wish wasn't so hard to find. The family clearly cares and has good standards, I look forward to coming a lot more often.
