It was the most horrible experience I have dealt with when dealing with car repairs. Not only did they fail to give me an invoice, they demanded I pay without see what work they did. The male custo.er service was horrible and they threatened to keep my vehicle while refusing to speak with me. I had to go to the OPD to have an officer escort me to the premises where the manager was so shady that the officer told me to IMMEDIATELY FILE CHARGES WITH THE DA. I have contactdd the attorney general, county attorney general and they both have said , after they viewed the video of my encounter that it looks to hold up to the standards of price gauging and chargeable. We will see how it works out for tire city. They did work without permission, not up to quality , over charged me 7x's what the dealersgip would and demanded that i pay or they keep my car. Nanger is horrible and corrupt

Same people that own the one in Independence own the store under the same name same owner and management team and philosophy.

So here we go. I have been going to Tire City for a few years now. I've gotten used tires, alignments and oil changes the last couple of years. I've never had any issues with their work before.

So on 3/24/23 I took my Dodge Caravan in for brakes. After calling around they were competitive on price and the had an opening. I thought great I'd rather go there anyway because I could trust them....

Here's where it gets interesting... they put brakes on and turned my rotors I was cool. I took my van off the lot and my brakes were squeaking. My brother told me it could take 3-4 day for the brakes and rotors to marry I also looked online and heard a lot of people say spray some brake cleaner on it. So I did, it never stopped. I went back the next week they acted stupid like they had no idea who I was.

But I had my receipt and they took my van back there. 30 minutes later they say "you're all good" I asked why the issue was... they said well we sprayed brake cleaner on it and it should be fixed... I said I've already done that maybe you guys could do it better...?

The next day I'm driving and my brakes are squeaking again.... And I mean like nails on a chalkboard squealing. So went back and said "nope still not working...." So they ordered me new pads and told me that it was my fault for pressing my brakes to hard.... because my pads "glazed over" or "crystallized". So I looked it up and it says that this problem it normally caused by the brakes getting too hot... which would come from the rotors being too thin.

So, it's even 3 days and this stuff is still messed up.... So I talked with my brother and we went to O'Reilly's and got a pair of brakes and rotors for about $255and I put them on myself. So afterwards I took my van back up there and showed them their receipt and my O"Reilly's receipt. I told them I spent $255 on my brakes and rotors because you couldn't do them right... the first thing out this dude mouth is "you should've brought it back."
I stood there kind of felt insulted , because he really wanted me to bring them my car for more work. Like he really said that, I was floored. I said "I brought it to y'all 3 times and it ain't fixed.... I'm not doing that. I want my $311 back." He said "nothing I could do about it, you should've brought us the van and we would've fixed it." I have no idea what planet they live in, but it ain't earth.

So he calls a manager at the Olathe(Ray) and he says "well I don't know about the Manager in Independence(Charlie), but I'm a brake guy and I would've done that in the beginning, maybe we can give you a $90 credit on an alignment...?"

I responded "You really think I'll let you touch my car huh? Well I brought three times they couldn't do it... how do I get my money back?"
He said "we are not authorized to do that... that would come from the owner... and talking to us is going to be better than talking to him we are nicer than he is."

I told him "I'll take my chances, what's his name and office number?" Ray responded "oh I can't give you that." I told him "I should've said that about my $311." So I'm out $311 on something that now I know how to do myself I'm going to do that. Just for fun here are the receipts....

I am a independent business owner and that $311 has set me back a little bit. And I don't want it to happen to nobody else.... I won't be returning unless they have a check for me.

Ray gave me a price over the phone and his knowledge of the tire business was impressive. Said he'd been "rolling tires since 1962." That was enough for me to stop shopping and make the purchase.

Ray explained why I didn't need top-of-the-line tires and recommended a brand he's been selling for several years. I am surprised how smooth and quiet they are. Online reviews reflected they are good tires. It's too soon to tell, but I'm feeling like they were the right choice.

The parking situation is awful at this Olathe location. They do not have a fancy show room or fancy waiting room. It's a tire shop. Keep that in mind if you're looking for a price on tires. They are selling tires without the fluffy fancy extras. They did cover my floor mat and seat which was nice. The steering wheel was filthy, but I was able to clean it without too much effort.

I would recommend Tire City if buying tires is your goal.

A friend recommended Tire City to me last year when I was dealing with a couple other, very dishonest, mechanic shops in the area. I've been back four times since, if that says anything about the level of trust I have in Ray, Ron and the gang at Tire City.

They earned this trust on my first visit. Unknowing to them, I had my car in another shop and they were STRONGLY demanding that I replace my entire rack and pinion assembly, along with the connecting hoses and clamps. I took it to Tire City for a second opinion, without telling them any of what the first shop said. They called me a couple hours later and told me that it was simply a hose that needed to be replaced. Saved me $1,400 over the other quote, and I haven't had ONE issue with the steering in more than 16 months.

I've been in for three mechanical fixes and one wheel/tire issue. I've always experienced honesty and extremely fair prices. The guys are great to deal with as well.

It's been one of the best recommendations I've ever received.

Only things holding back from a five-star review are that the place is a bit of a dive, and sometimes I've felt like I had to chase them down a bit for updates on my ride. But, let's face it: it's a car shop, so the fact that it's locally owned and not state of the art is likely a key reason I'm saving so much money. Trust of a mechanic's shop alone is worth 4 solid stars.

The guy in front acted nice enough, but they broke one of my tire pressure sensors and wanted me to pay for it. 2 of my 4 new tires were also out of balance and he would not rebalance them. (I paid to have another shop fix it)

Great service and tires for a great price. A friend told us about Tire City and we went there for tires for one of our older cars. They sell both used and new tires and have a large selection.

We were happy with the tires, price and service. However the place could certainly use a good scrub down. The front desk area was covered in paperwork and other odds and ends. There wasn't really a waiting area, just some chairs. And it just needed a good cleaning. You could tell that the owner enjoys what he does, he just needs someone to clean up his office and make it more friendly. It honestly made me a bit nervous as to the quality of product and work since the place was so dissolved.

When you buy 4 tires it comes with a lifetime of free rotations and inspections.

But in the end we were happy. And the owner beat all the competitors' prices then gave us a discount for paying cash. So we'll probably go back there again.

Long story short...got a flat between Wichita and KC on the way to the airport. It's memorial weekend and I have 2 hours to get there. I use maps to find tire shops closest to me (not from the area). First four said there wasn't anything they could do. When I called Tire City, Ray answered the phone. I asked how long it would be and he said we're already wasting time on the phone...get here ASAP. In and out of Tire City in 25 minutes. Thanks for helping me get to my vacation. 10/10

Ever since I first moved back to KC I've taken my cars here for most all repairs, oil changes, tires, etc. Ron, who I believe may be retired now, was always honest, looked for the best deal and if they couldn't fix it always gave me the name of someone just as honest who could. They have always done great work at the most reasonable price.

Horrible shop, they dented the rear center caps on my husbands truck (then denied it), had different air pressure in each tire, which it was taken in to be balanced and rotated. Had loose lug nuts, which it extremely dangerous and charged is 470 dollars. They also plugged a tire that my husband specifically asked for them to patch it. Horrible service, sketchy shop. Never again.
