Thunderbird Home Away From Home: I quite enjoy spending time here after long days and nights getting up to mischief in the Greater Reno Area. Walking distance to the Western Village Casino, the Sparks Marina (complete with walking and bike trails), SCHEELS (Mom you don't need another one of those, stahp.), and the Nugget Casino, Home of the Rib Fest, is about a mile's walk.
My bf usually handles the Check In part when we stay at timeshares, since he's the member. It works out for me because the whole video conference experience is peculiar. Patience is key. If it malfunctions enough you may find yourself snuggling a complimentary bottle of the finest red table wine. Score! Rustic in appearance, the furnishings in the rec center and lobby remind me of a comfy cabin that also has a popcorn machine. They've got a tv, games, books, rental movies, and magazines for the wait.
Outside you'll find a pool and hot tub. The pool is on the smaller side and always seems to have floating balls of hair that I swear isn't all mine, but is still a relaxing experience on a hot summer day nonetheless. Not too far away is the massive BBQ area where they do complimentary burger n hot dog lunches on Sunday afternoons (Memorial Day through Labor Day/Rib Fest Weekend), a must if you're staying through the weekend at the Bird.
The Condos, many of which were recently remodeled (the last time we stayed here, in July, there were new couches and carpet), are large and in charge, with multiple stories and bedrooms, multiple bathrooms, a living room, dining area, and kitchen. The kitchen is well-stocked with appliances and implements, but I would caution you to bring your own pans. We ran into cruddy pans at another property, but not the Bird. They're just owned by the same folks. There's a cook top, oven, microwave, coffee maker, fridge, garbage disposal, and dishwasher. Likely I'm forgetting to list some stuff. They have a gym if you're in need, which is on the smol side but offers a few machines and weights to work on the swol. I fancy a walk around the Marina and a stumble home from the Casinos, personally.
Here it comes. I know you were waiting for it: Thunderbird is Go. Have yourself an affordable good time! Personally, I really have enjoyed my time here and the people I've spent that time with. Blessed!Helpful 18Thanks 0Love this 15Oh no 1 - Uncle G.San Francisco, CA01292Aug 25, 2022
Why anyone would want to buy into this dump is beyond me.
The rooms are totally outdated, dirty and have insect problems. Wouldn't stay here again for free let alone buy into this mess.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 3, 2018Updated review
Update Aug.22.
We were moved to an updated room which is much cleaner. The carpet is still stained but not dirty like the previous room we had. The appliances are all newer. As are the TVs. The TV in the master however has LCD damage that causes lines to go through it but at least it's a newer flat screen. The folks that work here are very friendly. The grounds are beautiful.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Aug 22, 2018Previous reviewUpdate Aug.22.

I found the check in process was not difficult at all. There should probably be a sign telling people to pick up the phone that's sitting on the desk. Once you pick up the phone, it's fast and easy. We were assigned a room 9n the 1st floor as requested due to having a person in a wheelchair in our family. Once we got in our room, we were disappointed. The room smells like old wet wood (best description I got) and the appliances are so outdated. The fridge and stove are a poop brown color, the DVD player is on a shelf over the fridge which is a strange place to have it. The sleeper sofa looks new, the mattress however is terrible. I also had to basically move all the furniture in order to open the sofa sleeper. There are mirrors EVERYWHERE. The TV in the master bedroom is an old tube style 13 inch tv. The carpet. You guys I'm not taking my shoes off!. The carpet is brown yet still there are stains everywhere and it just looks dirty. We are not owners here and I hope that they give owners updated rooms otherwise what are you paying for? As for anyone else who is not an owner who wishes to stay here, don't. But if you do, try to secure an updated room. I do hope those are better and my current rating is based on 1st impression and not on any of the amenities, if any.

I can't figure out how to change my review.
The manager never got back to me after I left multiple messages!! They charged me $250!! I had to change rooms because I almost died from the railing not being bolted to the wall, among other things! This place is old snd dangerous!! Please be aware especially if you have kids!!
They accused me for putting a stain on the wall that was already there!! They also said the Dairy Queen blizzard that we didn't get completely cleaned by the garbage was puke!! Complete jerks, ripping me off!! This place is a joke.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 18, 2021Previous reviewI used to love this place. It's gone way down hill! They don't provide coffee filters anymore. The railing to the stairs was about ready to fall off last night shill bringing luggage upstairs, the floors squeak bad! The cords yo many outlets just fall out, the silverware, pots, pans, and other dishes are filthy and old, drips from food or drinks all over the cupboards, the head board in the master bedroom bangs against the wall if you roll over, I was at the end of the bed and it still happened. I haven't even been here 24 hours and it's been one thing after another.
1 hour later and my daughter just woke up. There is dried blood on the sheets. It's not from her, she checked. They put sheets on the bed with blood stains! We're changing rooms.
This isn't their fault but there was a fire so no laundry or pool. I think about it and for how cheap this place is and their lack of care maybe the electric was so old and not taken care of that may have started the fire they're lucky no one got hurt. They remodeled the rooms but they need to do much more or someone will get hurt.
The guy, Noah at the front desk deserves 5 stars. He's been very accommodating and very nice and helpful. - Mar 31, 2019
We traded our Marriott Hawaii timeshare into Interval and made some late moment reservation to this place as it was the only available place we could drive to.
The parking lots are all beat up and broken. Homeless people living next door near an empty hotel. Our room is old and worn out. The dishwasher hangs loose out of the cabinet and the kitchen faucet is leaking. And they asked if we would sit in a timeshare presentation for $100.
Towels are clean and thick. Plenty of hot water with the hot water unit in one of our closets which I don't mind but still weird. They do have decent dish ware and appliances except for the broken dishwasher.
Roberta the concierge was nice and it's also a plus this place is gated.
Now I just realize why I needed an antihistamine when I got here when all our clothes were covered with cat hair and I'm allergic to cats! Changing rooms today after 3 nights being miserable and hopefully there weren't any cats staying in the next room like this one. Down to 1 star. We were in Room 313 near all the construction going on outside in our building.
We switched rooms to a newer room and it's night and day difference even as they are the same layout. Still mad they gave us a run down cat infested room to begin with when they could have given us this room to begin with. Up to 2 stars.Helpful 20Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0Business owner information

Dear Steve,
I know in many ways my response may be pointless and may even irritate you, instead of making you feel as though you helped, but i saw your comments and believe I must reply, even though it is months late.
In May, I was brought on to operate the Thunderbird Resort Club, a timeshare condominium Resort founded and developed by a family who has run it to this day, part of their group of resorts in Northern Nevada under the QM Resorts flag.
You apparently stayed in March, and you apparently stayed in one of the older, non-renovated owner units. Presuming you stayed in March, there were likely 25 - 30 of our units down for the renovation. In fact, now, in August, we still have about 24 units unavailable due to the complete renovation. I make no excuses. You stayed in an old room that needed updating in every area. For this, I sincerely apologize, as I am now responsible for the Resort, and I will not tolerate or accept any inaction or action that adversely affects our owners or guests. I apologize to you for failing to provide or even come close to what a Resort experience should have been for you.
The cat issue is most distressing, as even though I was not in charge, the Resort does not and has not allowed pets -- ever. Thus, someone secreted a pet into our facility, and I know some people do, and caused your room to be even less acceptable. Normal maid service is not designed to address rooms where pets have stayed. There is a completely different process that must be employed, using different vacuum cleaners, different cleaning supplies, and also different techniques. It is clear, even from a distance, that housekeeping did not know there had been a cat in the room prior to your arrival. If they did, the room would not have been usable for new arriving owners or guests. We may have had to put you in a different hotel at our expense, as we likely had no other units available until we finally did three days later.
Please accept our apologies for such improper service and our failure to address your valid issues. It was a failure of the operation, and one that I now work hard every day to prevent. At this time, about 80% of the property is completely renovated and no guest will be staying in an old, worn down room. The last 20% or so are getting updated as I write this late reply in August 2019. We strictly enforce our no pet policy and if we find a pet has been in a room, we levy a $250 fee. It is not refundable.
I am so sorry that I could not have assisted you back in March. In no way can I ever make up to you what you experienced first hand, but do know that your comments and the comments of others caused our organization to seek a different management team and have the HOA kick in several million dollars to get the Resort up to where is should be and where it will be going forward.
This reply may fall on deaf ears, but I wanted to make sure you knew someone does care and that your review was not a waste of your time. Thank you. - Jun 6, 2017Updated review
Thunderbird Resort is a timeshare adequate for those who don't like the smokey casinos. We arrived around 2 am at the gated entrance which makes one feel a bit more secure being across the street from a mobile home park. Once they buzzed us through, I walked into the registration office. I looked for a person at the desk, but I only heard a male voice that said "I'm here just walk up to the desk." Fear and confusion mixed in with curiosity had me walk forward. I saw a big screen monitor behind the desk. The voice then went ahead and gave me instructions on checking in. Let me clarify, I saw no human during my check-in. Only heard a voice. When our room keys shot out of the dispenser and the voice said thank you, I replied "thank you robot or human?" The voice laughed and said have a good night. This was the strangest check-in I ever experienced!
We had a ground floor unit. You walk in and there is a distinct odor between smoke and cleaner. The furniture is severely outdated! The room has an apartment feel to it, an apartment you know you don't want to stay in for too long!
They do what they can with this place. Staff is polite. Amenities are not up to par with most timeshares, but it could be perceived to be better than the Reno hotels if you hate the casino smoke.
Definitely don't expect 5 star amenities, but overall not a terrible stay, just not preferred. Hopefully they decide to update this property! It has potential!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0May 29, 2017Previous reviewThunderbird Resort is a timeshare adequate for those who don't like the smokey casinos. The Thunderbird "Resort" is a hybrid low-income apartment complex with a virtual reception "front desk" surrounded by trailer parks. The buildings and interior design are dilapidated from the late 80s early 90s.
The beds squeaked and creaked. The sofa-bed mattress was stained and the old springs made it impossible to sleep on. I never heard back from the manager regarding my mattress complaints and was compelled to purchase an air mattress at the local Walmart.
The gym equipment and decor has not been replaced since the mid 1980's.
I was able to get extra pillows and towels. Toilet paper, dish soap and paper towels were also in abundant supply.
Heater and appliances worked well.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I am sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations or ours. As a Time Share property, we have been using the virtual check-in for years. This allows one person to manage all of our property's front desks during slow times to save money for the owner's yearly costs. During higher check-ins, we can have more agents working to check-in more guests. Once COVID-19 hit, it allowed our guests to check-in without having to meet with anyone. I will reach out to the manager about the mattresses. I hope your next stay is more what you expect.

These complaints were unfortunately the result of a family dispute over who should pay for the room. The resort and management never should have been involved as the issue of the payment should have been handled privately between the family members. I did get this guest refunded.
