This is another establishment that closed because of COVID that I will miss. Absolutely fantastic location that I have spent quality time with many good people at.
There food is delicious and every experience I had with them was truly 5 Stars.
The very first time I went there was to meet with my future roommate for 1 year and then throughout my time going there I went on dates there and took good friends there and it was wonderful. The Ace Burger really does live up to the hype too. - 1292033847/28/2016
My friend and I came here for dinner and drinks after work and enjoyed our visit. Â There is plenty of outdoor seating, which was wonderful for a nice summer night, and we were seated and served right away.
I chose the Allagash White draft, which was a delicious Belgian Pale Ale. Â They had a great draft special selection as well as plenty of other craft domestic and import beer options and cocktails on their menu. Â We opted to share the Calabrese Pizzetta and Bolognese Fries. Â The pizza was thin crust with salami, Parmesan and four cheeses, oregano, and other spices. Â It had 6 slices and was perfect to share. Â The Bolognese Fries were fantastic - French fries covered in Bolognese sauce and Parmesan cheese. Â It was a generous serving and came in a big bowl.
The staff was very friendly, and the music was spot on. Â The dinner and drink averaged to $20 per person. Â I'm glad we came to try this place. Â I recommend coming here, and I'm sure I'll be back. - 55174522757/24/2014
My boyfriend and I came for dinner one night at his suggestion because he had dined there before and really liked the food. Â The place was pretty crowded early on a Saturday night, but they were able to seat up at a high-top table in the backroom. Â They have an excellent beer selection, which we both appreciated! Â He tried a Dumpster beer, and i have to say it was very unique, but tasted exactly like a dumpster.
We started with the popcorn, which was super tasty. Â I ordered the scallops. Â Scallops are one of my favorite things, and I've had them at a lot of places. Â These scallops were really tasty, but they only give you TWO of them. Â They should have been under the appetizer part of the menu because they left me starving. Â I was pretty disappointed there were only two of them. :( Â I would give Three Aces another try because everything else was awesome--I just wish the portion-size was larger! - 56688921957/26/2014
This review is strictly on the drinks, ambience, and service. Yesterday me and some friends (that obviously don't like working) went here to peruse the librations after brunch.
It was a little chilly but we opted to sit outside in the patio at one of the many picnic benches. It was a cute set up and I like the art work on the fences.
Our server was wonderful and put up with one of our group members indecisiveness and help him come up with the drink he wanted. Me and my girl opted for the backyard shandy cocktail and it was very light and refreshing. Next time I'll be back to try the food, but I was really digging the vibe here. - 4794509289/16/2014
At first I was all like "What is a gastropub??", and then I left thinking "I love gastropubs!!". This place was so fun for a Friday night out for drinks with friends. Unfortunately since I was sick, I did not have any alcohol. But! Fortunately since I was sick I took the chance to try different foods, hehe.
Duck fat chips, bolognese fries, and popcorn.. OH MY! Try them all!! - 18034429549/14/2012

I came here on a Thursday evening and it wasn't too packed although the Bears game was playing..my friend and I were seated immediately..it got more packed later on, but the service maintained the same until we left.. :)
Food:
3 Aces burger ($13.00): consists of aged cheddar, trimmings, bacon jam, aioli, heirloom tomato, garlic AND comes with fries + hops pickle
-ordered it medium well and it came out perfect to our taste buds, the burger was juicy and the ingredients that were in the burger were a perfect mix for the burger..the bacon jam added a slightly sweet flavor to the burger (not too sweet or anything.. just perfect) the flavors all blended in well! Recommended that you try this burger.
-i really liked the hops pickle (perfect w/ burger).. a very vinegary taste to it...
Duck Fat Chips: you can really really really taste the duck fat.. tastes very ducky.. and very oily (soaked in fat flavor)...obviously since it was made with duck fat... and it was VERY SALTY...but somehow somewhat addicting.. kind of like when you eat chips and you keep eating it even tho it's not that great... your mouth wants to chew on something...i wouldn't get it again though...1 order of duck fat chips is enough for a party of 2-4 (if it's your 1st time trying.. order just 1 order and then you can order more if you really really like it..).
Bolognese Fries: I will just call this fries with chili on top because that's exactly what it looked like and tasted like....it was good, but nothing too special about it....
**wish they had more food food items on their menu..but then again it's a restaurant bar..
Sizes/Portions: my friend and I shared the 3 Aces burger (decent sized burger), Bolognese fries, and Duck Fat Chips...and we were pretty content..I felt pretty full actually..
Price: it is a little bit on the more costly end for burgers..the burger costs $13.00 and you can add bolognese on fries for $3.00...expect to spend at least $20 if you come here to eat..unless you're just going to order 1 order of a side...
Customer Care: the waiter & waitress were good, they were attentive and friendly, no complaints!
Atmosphere: restaurant/bar setting, good to come with a friend or with friends to just eat and hang out..dim lighting..there's a pool table too.. :) ..reminds me of the layout of Bar Louies...
Parking: it's Chicago so there will be meter street parking or free street parking across the street...
would I come here again?...
-- maybe, i'd like to check out there brunch menu (sounds delicious)....and for the burger... but not for the duck fat chips that ppl are raving about..eh.. - 1065112348/8/2015
I know a lot of people are fans of the Duck Fat Chips, but the Bolognese Fries are seriourly ridiculous. Â A rich, meaty sauce over hand cut blanched fries. Â A meal unto itself.
Burgers are good as well, and two other appetizers, the baked olives and popcorn were great.
Good beer selection-served a little warm in one instance-and very laid back atmosphere. - 847293831783/6/2015
Gastropub or American tapas... I'd say the latter, mainly because a gastropub is defined as having "good" food and drink and since I can't claim to having any good drink here, it's got to be American tapas. Â (Okay so actually the definition is a place with great food and great beers. Â Great selection of beers at a good price they have. Â But decently poured cocktails.... Not so much.) Â
So the other night, I'd decided to try their house infused Tito's vodka with soda water. Â Three cocktails IN and nary a buzz to speak of, which, had there been one it could have elevated my taste sensations to new heights.
The menu is simple and if you've heard the good word or memorized the reviews with good detail, well, I'll help you in the direction of flavor. Â Bringing some friends to share food with is a good way to taste it all. Â
And last, don't skimp. Â
Musts: Â
Popcorn. Â Definitely.
Bolognese fries. Â Just good, hearty, loaded fries. Â
Arancini. Â Fried risotto balls, if you've had them before at an Italian restaurant, you'll dig it but not a necessity.
Mushroom risotto. Â Tasty.
Short rib pizza. Â This was great the first time and even better the 2x with double dough! Â It's a definite winner.
Definitely peruse reviews and figure out which dishes are best to get. Â Picking aimlessly had served fruitless for some. - 438155444978/27/2015
We happened upon Three Aces during the Festa Italiana for a brief repast. My friends had previously recommended Three Aces to other diners, so when we passed by it was easy to justify a drink. The combination bar and restaurant is somewhat iconic in the area with a young vibe and a nice outdoor porch.
Our order of some draughts and an Old Style can for me was filled slowly on a very packed Saturday night as expected. It is hard to evaluate a bar on their specialty drinks when the bar is hopping; just order some simple stuff and move quickly. The outdoor patio was crowded but much quieter. We settled on a bench watching drunk people play a very good game of bocce and chatted about our evening before heading out.
Three Aces fits the bill as a nice watering hole with plenty of good people and cold drinks. That combination has worked well for centuries and is probably responsible for a good number of Yelpers being conceived! Enjoy your night at the Aces. - Carolyn M.San Diego, CA3118710285/11/2015
I was in the neighborhood and in search of a restaurant for dinner. My friend's been wanting to check this place out and since it had positive reviews, we decided to go. My friend and I shared a salad, burger and fries.
Drinks:
I asked my server what she suggested and she recommended the Lounge Lizard - George Dickel 12 whiskey, jasmine, apricot and fresh lime. I love whiskey and thought this drink was great - not too strong and really well balanced. I definitely recommend it for those who enjoy whiskey.
Food:
Spring Greens Salad - pea shoots, mint, radish, ricotta salata, lemon-tarragon vinaigrette
I usually like ordering salads with ingredients that I don't normally buy. This salad was really fresh and beautiful. I liked that it was different than other salads I've had before. The size was big enough to share with others. Â
Ace Burger - aged cheddar, trimmings, bacon jam, aioli, garlic
I wasn't expecting to like this burger, but it was delicious! The meat was juicy and perfectly cooked. I really liked the bacon jam. It came with a pickle and fries. We added bolognese to the fries since it looked like their specialty. It was a little weird at first since I'm used to a bolognese sauce with pasta, but I liked it. It was like a fancy chili fries.
If I'm ever in the area again, I'd come back here for delicious food and drinks.
