AYOOOOOOO I didn't know I could review the pub LMAOOOOOO
Guys I love this place I remember I would sit in the pub at like 2pm and eat snacks and dinner and do work until the basement starts to crowd. After a particularly hard class my friend Dan and I would drown our sorrows in the Pub with shirley temples and philly cheesesteaks. Everyone sleeps on the food, it's so cheap and SOOOOO good and it always hits the spot. Perfect bar food, and I literally always get the fried pierogies and I've never looked back!!! Also 2 corn dogs for $5 is CRAZY (though according to my friend they've raised prices rip) but still yummy and hot!!!!! The staff and Victor are SO awesome and have been doing it for years!!!! Please show them lots of love!!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 2, 2023
The Pub is a popular go-to spot for UChicago students, especially during the week, offering a variety of drinks for a reasonable price. There's also a pool, shuffleboard, and foosball table available for free. The entrance fee is $3 per entry or $10 for a quarter-long membership (cash only). It does get pretty packed on Wednesday nights, when people can purchase a beer to collect their beer passport shirt. Additionally, they host a weekly trivia night on Tuesdays at 8PM.
Also note - for UChicago students, they check your age via your student ID so fakes won't work!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 19, 2019
One of those "you need to be a member like it's a secret club" deal.
Better beer selection than I expected - but no table service. You have a million college students who need work study credits and you can't hire enough people for adequate table service?
Here in lies the problem. If you order food, you have a wide eyed bar back basically asking every person if they ordered your food. Number your tables or give us those little cards/table tents to put on our tables.
You can do better.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Oct 16, 2016
I spent many nights at the Pub as a college student, and after a recent visit, I was happy to see that it still has a good vibe. Many years later, too, it has a really great beer list, too!
Getting a booth was always challenging, but the non-booth areas are now a lot more appealing, with sleek, wood high-top tables close to the bar.
The juke box is now modernized, but it's definitely worth setting the tone you desire.
The Pub has a lot of good events to check out, like "meet the brewer" and trivia nights.
Many of my favorite memories were at the Pub, and I'm so glad it's still such a solid staple.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Michelle L.Los Angeles, CA2851931359Sep 12, 2019
I used to be skeptical of the pub. Now, I take it for granted. You have to either pay $3 per entrance or buy a membership for $10. Discounted memberships are available during the first week of classes for $5, which is definitely the time to buy one. If you aren't affiliated with UChicago, you'll need to find someone to be your host.
They have so many different types of beers to choose from. I don't have a go to haha. Usually, I'll split a pitcher with friends. You order at the bar and they'll give you the beer there, but if you order food, you'll give them some idea of where you are sitting like "in a booth near that sign" or something of the sort. I've never had my food not come to me. The food itself is pretty good as pub food comes.
They also have different events: Tuesdays they'll have trivia, and Wednesday's there is "passport beer" night. If you get 10 stamps you get a free glass and t-shirt, but you have to go every week on Wednesday of the quarter.

Little pub located in the basement of one of the U of C buildings. I didn't even know this existed until my friend who volunteers at Doc films took me here one day. You need to have a paid membership in order to get in, and if you want to bring a guest that costs $3, which is what my friend had to do. I admit that part was annoying, but I suppose if you compare it to a cover at most bars that's actually pretty cheap. I liked the decor of the place, designed, as you can imagine, off the classic pub model. They had a pretty good beer list, and they had your standard bar food, not just snacks but actual meals. Since I'm not a member, I doubt I'll be back unless my friend brings me back, but the bar itself is cool. If I were a student here I'd probably go regularly.

I come here all the time. They have a great selection of craft beers and pub food that pairs well with it. I usually get a double IPA and some curly fries and I'm in heaven. The atmosphere is casual, not a place you'd dress up to go to.
You need to have a UChicago ID to get in. If you don't have one, pair up with someone that does, and you'll be able to go. There's an entrance fee of $3 (not sure if it's just for staff or students too) if you don't have a membership. If you decide to come here often, a membership is only $10.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chris O.Chicago, IL2431Dec 10, 2017
First things first: someone in your party needs to have a UChicago ID (faculty/staff/student) to get in. Guests are charged a $3 cover, while UChicagoans can purchase a $10 membership for a whole year, which is generally worth it.
The best thing about the Pub is its beer selection, which defeats Jimmy's no questions asked and rotates throughout the year. You can always try something new at the Pub. They often have smaller breweries giving away free samples, as well.
The food is OK. Nothing to write home about, but if you want a solid burger and some decent curly fries, the Pub is your place. Beats on Jimmy's on this front as well. The prices are reasonable for what you get in terms of quality, which is rare for Hyde Park.
Atmosphere is hit-or-miss. On a good day, you will find you have most of the place to yourself and can enjoy some quiet conversation over a few beers and perhaps even dinner. On a bad day, 120 Law School or Business School loudmouths will have crammed into the small space, rendering relaxation or even ordering a drink impossible. If you see a big crowd inside, don't bother. The drinks and food are not good enough to justify the din.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
