In searching around for a bar to watch the Houston Texans game we walked across the street from our hotel into BirdDog Saint. This is not your normal bar but a Gastropub. Means it is a pub specializing in high-quality food along with drinks. Since it was Sunday they were serving brunch until 3:00 PM. It was interesting where they do not have the NFL Sunday Ticket so some fans may not be able to see their favorite teams. So it is not a fully functional sports bar.

I ordered Biscuits & Gravy and my wife got Chicken & Biscuits which included fried chicken, 2 eggs, biscuits and gravy. The bartender is super cool and the bar decor has that European flair. The bar scene is the draw of this place but has plenty of seating downstairs and upstairs, lots of local beers on tap and TVs all around.

Our food arrived and it was good. I tried my wife's meal and the eggs and chicken were delicious. The biscuits filled me up and enjoyed it with a local draft beer. If you stay at the AC Hotel next door you enjoy 15% off your meal and they have WiFi if you plan to hang out here.

The bartender was the best part providing us entertainment with passionate game day commentary while watching the Texans game. We definitely Will return next time staying downtown Houston.

Valar morghulis. (All gentlesirs must eat wings.)

This joint on the first two floors of the Capitol Lofts has been a lot of other businesses in the past and the space turns over pretty regularly. For many years I worked across the street so it became a not infrequent occurrence to stumble out one night to find the terrible burger place had closed and a new pizza place was moving in, trying that one, not going back, finding it too had closed for obvious reason, something else was moving in, and so on. The longest time traveler was Springbok which hosted a mighty fine Yelp Elite Event (YEE) badge bash for us in January 2015. But as all things do in this space, Springbok had to hit the dusty trail and along came someone else in a new wig.

Bird Dog Saint is the new tenant in this perilous space. Intrepidly stupid (or unknowable) business name aside which shares an initialism with the worst and most intellectually dishonest """""political movement""""" ever seen which is a separate reason why I hate the initialism of the resto to begin with.

I don't know what in the HECK a Bird Dog Saint is and maybe I don't want to know. So in my mind it is just a guy with marbles in his mouth trying to tell you about his favourite film, Boondock Saints. That is a compromise we can all live with because of Rocco the Funnyman.

But still, stupid name/initials aside, we hope they stay a good long while here on Main with those peri vinaigrette wings because dang son, these wings gave me the Liz Lemon business when I was in the mood to receive it. Yelp doesn't allow emojis yet but if she did there would have been a lot of clapping hands emojis around Liz Lemon business because these wings man, they had to do it to me.

And keep in mind I only started with a pound of these badd girls - they sell these things by the pound so you can really throw caution to the wind and go the best kind of nuts with a pile of chicken wing refuse in front of you, spilling on to the floor, and rising to the heavens. Imagine me with a few more goblets of ale and additional pounds of wings, I am climbing as near to good boy heaven as you can get whilst perpetually boycotting Chick Fil A so efficiently the Texas legislature is considering a "save Chick Fil A bill" to harsh the mellow you have personally rained down on bigots like hellfire from the good lord down below, the last place that bigots would expect it coming from.

I can't speak for the menu beyond the wings because in my mind this is a wings place, like the place two before it was a pizza place, and the one before that was a burger place. Also, downtown did not previously have a wings place unless you paid the exorbitant ubereats fees to get Hooters on 59 to truck their horribly mass-produced and overpriced wings down to you because sister, there ain't a third option in this neighbourhood. Downtown had a severe dearth of wings joints but this place swooped in and fixed it by providing not just AN option, but the lordly option of mighty fine wings and available by pound increments for days you need it due to reasons and have conveniently dressed for it with sweat pants and Eddie Pepitone commissioned "eating shirt."

The most useful thing I can tell you about this biz beyond you can order wings in pound increments is that you need to check in on the Yelp app because they have a Yelp app check in offer for 10% of the bill and that pays for the next round if you order enough goblets of ale and pounds of wings. (Or for one pound of wings it is roughly $1 off.)

When in need of wings downtown, this will do pig, this will do.

Valar dohaeris. (Gentlesirs who eat wings can't be born, so we have to recruit them.)

Peri vinaigrette wings by the pound with celery and ranch. This is a one pounder, do I even lift bro?
Does anyone beat this meat in the peri vinaigrette wings?

It's an alright place, convenient location. Came here because next door was packed ... trivia night!

I got the napoletana pizza and a local brew. Was hungry so it was good enough.

Beer pricing was pretty fair for downtown.

Suggestions- Try the Brussel sprout skins. Not really a filling meal but, they were lite, crispy and delicious.

My friends and I were walking down Main looking for a place to grab a drink when we discovered BirdDog Saint. Apparently this used to be the space that Springbok had which is why it looked a bit familiar to me.

For a Saturday evening, it wasn't busy at all. We sat at the bar. The bartender was very nice. I can't remember the names of the drinks that I had, but they were both really good. I didn't try any food with the exception of taking a small bite of the peanut butter chocolate chip cookie (it was good). Cocktails are about $10 a piece. It was a great place to end our evening at.

We tried BirdDog Saint for drinks/snacks after work and weren't impressed. While drinks were OK and reasonably priced, the service and snacks were so-so.

I saw warm cookies on the menu and thought that would be a fun treat after a long day of work. I thought "warm" would mean fresh, but the cookies were stale, days-old cookies that had been zapped in the microwave--disappointing.

Service was OK, but he didn't ask when we'd barely touched our snacks, and he also tried to take my unlocked phone away from the table with him when I wanted to use my Yelp check-in offer.

HORRIBLE! Waited 5 minutes to be seated behind a party that was already waiting. Got a server to come take our order and then disappeared. How hard is it to cook wings (the most popular and known item on the menu)??!!! I can't say anything good about this place; the remodeled first floor is not much different. They went with the whole western theme and pretty much failed. As a restaurant in the middle of downtown most individuals didn't have 3 hours to dedicate for this restaurants lack of service. The wings were great and fries as well which is why they are getting 1 Star.

HORRIBLE SERVICE and TIME TO SERVE.

Awesome atmosphere, great staff, and wonderful food. Definitely will be back to try more of the menu. We got a stuffed meatball to split that was perfect, and she got one of the best grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches I've ever tried. Their burger was amazing as well.

1st off - they honored our 20% YELP discount easily and quickly. Usually the discount has a 20% success rate...

It is across the street from the JW Marriott and in the still-safe Main St. entertainment area (don't go further than 2 blocks S after dark at night).

There was nothing at all remarkable about the stop here, except the staff. They were not only pleasant but had lots of verifiable tips and tidbits.

We didn't eat and the drop-in was pleasant.
