I just moved to the area so I didn't have a dentist get. I had a horrible toothache and needed to be seen ASAP! They got me in right away and I was all done within an hr. Had tooth pulled and everything went great. Everyone is really nice. I have now taken all four of my kids for routine treatment and been happy with all appts.

It pains me to do this, but it's necessary. To keep it short and sweet, this place told me I had 3 cavities that they needed to do fillings on. I moved away from SAC shortly after and never had the fillings done. Upon moving home I went to another dentist who did another set of x rays, only to find I have ZERO cavities. Shortly after, I needed x rays again for something else and this dentist ALSO said I have ZERO CAVITIES.
I've always heard that there are dentists who will do unnecessary procedures just to bill insurance, and sorry to say but this place has is I of them.

I was a patient of Dr. Olga years ago and I agree with the negative reviews. In my opinion, all the amazing work (and cost) that my previous dentist did (my amazing dentist before her) was all completely reversed and ruined. I moved hours far away from
My previous dentist, so I just needed this office to maintain the nearly perfect work of my previous dentist. This office always told me that I needed endless amounts of work, at every visit it was always something that cost big money. I even took out financing a couple of times (probably for treatment I didn't need, or worse). They insisted that I stop using my retainer and, instead, buy their night guard (very bad idea). I was hesitant because I assumed my teeth would shift if I stopped using my retainer (which they did, significantly). My previous dentist surprisingly opened an office in El Dorado Hills (I was a patient of his when he first started and back when we were both located in a small community hours away), I went back to him and had to pay him thousands to fix all the damage this office caused (after I paid this office thousands to destroy my teeth, destroyed all his work). When I questioned them about using a retainer, they actually seemed to get mad at me, I felt like I was being bullied into a night guard (which did indeed contribute to my teeth shifting). I had to re-do the Invisalign treatment for a second time, because of the damage this office caused. My teeth are now beautiful again (the credit goes to my dentist in El Dorado Hills). I still use my retainer, not a night guard. I wish I had never stepped foot inside this dental office. Just my opinion, but I absolutely agree with the negative reviews. I wish I had recourse to recoup all the money wasted, just for them to ruin my beautiful teeth.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Landa C.Sacramento, CA0187Nov 27, 2023
I was received graciously. Ashly was very diligent in making sure I understood the costs and procedures which were affordable and my insurance made it even more affordable. The hygienist Rhean was super thorough and meticulous with cleaning to where I felt like it was the best cleaning I ever had in my life. They take thorough xrays in order to know what's even going on with your gums. Everyone was soft spoken not making you feel inadequate and sensitive to how you are feeling throughput the process.

I had another visit to 3000 L Street in Sacramento this morning. These people at the Smile Doctor are the best. I'm old and have been to lots of dentists and this particular office is the best of all. The staff couldn't be better: Lena, Ashley, Cheree, Brianna, Rheann, and the Doc. I mean it!!! You gotta go there! The location is easily accessed by car or public transportation. And they've got the coolest big fat orange fish in their fish tank! Medicare friendly!!! Smile on!!!

My experience at Smile Doctor was unfortunately impacted by an unfortunate circumstance around getting crowns done. I feel a little more empathy could have been instilled during the multi-visit process.
The staff at Smile Doctor is overall really nice. Dr. Sato was a bit more to the point and quick, but I assume part of that was because my situation ended up taking multiple trips to fix.
I had come in for a regular cleaning and then went ahead with the process of doing two crowns on opposite sides. In talking with friends and dental professionals afterwards, they said they would not have recommended doing both sides at the same time, which might have been my downfall. Both temporary crowns fell out, and apparently even going 24 or 36 hours without one on can make a big difference in the fitting of the real crown.
One crown had to be done multiple times. At times, I felt blamed for having the temporary one come off even though it sounds like most would not have recommended doing both within weeks of each other for this very reason.
Dr. Sato and his staff did apologize and thanked me for my patience, but there also seemed to be a lot of excuses thrown around for why my case was particularly complicated.
That being said, a visit with a new dentist confirmed that Dr. Sato's work was good despite some of the complications I experienced. So I'm definitely grateful for that.Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0 - Lourdes S.SoMa, San Francisco, CA01Feb 26, 2023
This doctors not only wasted my time taking months to replace a cap. He made multiple mistakes in sizing and I had to keep coming back. He kept drilling and drilling until he fractured two teeth and didn't bother to tell me. I ended up having to get one tooth pulled, paying over $600 out of pocket for his mistake. Do not recommend l. Go somewhere else. Im mad that I have to grant a star just to post this review.

I wish I could give this location a thousand negative reviews.
I was a first time patient and I called the listed number which apparently was the sister office, whoever helped me was so sweet and really had me excited to fix my problem! She told me I could pay $70 and get an exam on the one tooth I'm having an issue with or pay $96 for the cleaning, exam, and X-Rays- I definitely wanted the full package. She was kind enough to book me for the same day at 3:10PM and said show up a little early to fill out paperwork.
I showed up at 2:50 or something like that NOT expecting any special treatment. Walking in I went to the front desk and you could already tell the woman was having a day. I told her I was there for an appointment and she asked my name, she said "well you're REALLY early. We have only two doctors available so we can see what we can do." Not that I asked for anything special I just showed up to check in. She told me to fill out the new patient forms, which I did. Upon returning them she sprang up from her chair and told me I had more to fill out, so I did. She told me the total would be $70, I told her but I wanted to do the $96 so I could get the full package? She said oh well, it says here that you booked for the $70, so it's $70. I said okay but I didn't book that, it must have been a mistake? She didn't want to help me figure anything out then proceeded to say "I mean you could do the $96 but we have to schedule you for another day to do the cleaning because your notice was so late we can't do all of this today." I said okay.. if I do the $70 one are you guys even going to get anything done today? She said there is no guarantee we can do anything but just look at the issue, WHILE CONTINUOUSLY rolling her eyes!!! I'm not sure if she has ticks, or if it's a nervous thing, but that just about threw me off the edge after her attitude. I asked for all of the paperwork with my information back and told her I did not want to further my services. She asked me what the problem was and I told her that her attitude was absolutely disgusting. I could tell she judged me from the moment I walked in.
I would never ever in my life recommend such a sloppy, rude, and judge mental place ever. Go anywhere else. They obviously don't care.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Caiva, Thank you for taking the time to address your concerns. I am glad that the scheduling process of your appointment was great. It seems we fell short on communication on what you were scheduling for and what time allowed on our schedule that particular day and I sincerely apologize for portraying it was anything else than that. While I understand the frustration in miscommunications I did ask for your feedback handing back your paperwork but did not ask what your problem was. I apologize for my eye flutters, it was in no way directed at you and something I will work on. We would be happy to accomodate more time if you'd like to give us another try. Also, our sister offices offer the same $96 membership that offers the comprehensive exam, full set xrays and regular cleaning if you'd like to take advantage of that full package.

I had my first appointment at the dental practice and that went fine. I then was scheduled to see the hygienist a month later. I was subjected to 2 hours of injections and cleaning! I left with a numb face and my mouth distorted. The hygienist was robot like and cold t during the procedure. I had to ask her to help me walk to the restroom and for a After the cleaning, I walked up to the receptionist and she said, "You owe 900 dollars", I was take aback by her tone and words but I paid. I lodged a complaint about how the receptionist came across and her tone of voice!
I registered concern over this online and got a response in writing saying, we will smile more next time. However, when I called to schedule my next appointment, I asked if they had another hyegenist as the one that cleaned my teeth was very cold and brusk, she said, I have not heard that before! I said, you are supposed to validate me! I was so angry, having to put up with this person's treatment and being sent back to the robot like hiegenist! I decided this was not a good place to get my dental treatment!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Brenda, We are sorry to hear you were unhappy with the manner in which we collected your cost for the services you recieved. We will keep that in mind and be sure to smile next time. :)
Jun 17, 2022Previous reviewMy first visit for X-rays was great. Dr. Sato and his assistant were very nice. My second appointment went well. I got my teeth cleaned by the hygienist and that went well despite the appointment taking 2 hours. What I did not like was the receptionist saying, "that will be 900 dollars", in a cold, unsmiling manner. I gave her my credit card. Her job is to create a welcoming the patients and not treat them in a cold, rude manner!
I am following up this yelp posting with a call to that practice to let them know I was unhappy with the way I was treated. - Helia Z.Sacramento, CA25313Nov 2, 2020Updated review
Since you're shady as hell, I'm including a screenshot of your original reply in case you decide to revise it to be even somewhat professional.
Gee, thanks for not violating HIPPA! How decent of you. Tanya, here's a free lesson in customer service:
If you truly believe you told me beforehand that I would not receive a dental cleaning (you didn't, but I'll play along), a more appropriate, less condescending response to a review would be as follows, "I'm sorry that anything was unclear about the details of your appointment, including the fact that your new patient appointment would not include a cleaning because it was the last slot of the day and there wouldn't be enough time. I was sure I explained that to you when I scheduled you and sincerely apologize if I didn't. We know your time is valuable and we would never intentionally waste it." But, actually, Tanya, you did waste it because you didn't explain any of this. No other dental office I've been in touch with operates this way - because it's a waste of time for everyone.
While you may have a mask policy in accordance with OSHA and CDC guidelines, you certainly don't enforce it. You just made a blanket statement without addressing the specific instance of a patient checking out without a mask on. And Ashley did not have one on when I arrived. But you'll just deny that too, won't you?
P.S. I'll leave it to Yelp to deal with your incentivizing reviews. They've already contacted me about you violating their terms. Good luck!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Updated response: We wish you the best and hope you find the dental office that you're looking for and are able to form a relationship with them. :)

Original Response:
Thank you Helia for your review. We are sorry to learn about your less than satisfactory visit. We strive to deliver the highest quality care to our patients. However, due to HIPPA regulations, we can not go into specific details regarding your appointment. With that said, we will go into details about some of the stuff you did mention.
We have a WONDERFUL team here and pride ourselves on providing amazing dental care to our patients. We also follow all OSHA and CDC guidelines to ensure patients safety and enforce a mask policy in our office.
You mentioned that you didn't get a cleaning that same day. I personally scheduled your new patient appointment and in fact, I told you that you will NOT be getting a cleaning the same day due to the fact that you were the last patient of the day (since you needed the latest appointment, due to work). It's actually quite common to schedule a new patient exam and x-rays without the cleaning.
Also, my manager's apology was very sincere; there was no attitude or snarkiness.
P.S. We have a sign for patients that asks them to check in on Yelp and they will get free whitening.Oct 23, 2020Previous reviewSuch a disappointing first experience at this place. TL;DR:
-No mask policy enforcement (staff and patients in the lobby didn't have them on)
-After 40 minutes, I was told they didn't book enough time for me to get the service I originally scheduled for (why schedule me then?)
-Their staff has a terrible attitude (see below)
Full version:
In addition to the terrible customer service I have described below, it's extremely concerning that this office doesn't enforce a mask policy for people in their facility. In the roughly one hour I was there, I saw both staff and patients (not during an exam - obviously a mask isn't possible then) without masks. Why have a policy if you're not going to enforce it? Also FYI, they offer teeth whitening for positive reviews, so it's basically like buying them. Makes sense now why their ratings are higher than they should be.
Re: customer service, despite booking an appointment for a dental cleaning, I was told at the end of the ~40 minutes spent taking x-rays that they didn't have time to do my cleaning and I'd have to come back. Why did you schedule me then? The doctor informed me that being the last appointment of the day meant they didn't book enough time to do both imaging and a cleaning, and that I should have been told that when I initially scheduled. Clearly this was not communicated to me, otherwise I wouldn't have booked for this time slot. And who books an appointment just for x-rays? I booked a cleaning on purpose. I left work early to make it there today, and I didn't even get the service I scheduled.
Rather than wait for the hygenist to finish with another patient or bother with making yet another appointment at this incompetent office, I told them I wouldn't be coming back after this experience. Especially because between the doctor and the office staff, all I got was condescending attitude, snark, and a brush off. When someone says "I'm sorry you feel that way" (the least sincere form of an apology) or "You're clearly frustrated so there's nothing I can do for you," it's lazy and unprofessional. Your office failed to communicate with me. When I expressed that, you got rude. When you make a mistake, be gracious. It's really not that difficult. - Zak A.Sacramento, CA22912Jun 26, 2020
I have been with them for about 5 years now.
They made me love going to the dentist.
not they only have a great work experience but the customer service is stunning.
Thank you Ashley for being amazing and everyone else.
