I love this place, I used to work in the area and would frequent quite a bit late night. I went again last night for the first time after the remodel and it's still a chill spot to hang out and connect with friends. Extensive beer list, which is a plus for me, also offering a full bar if you prefer. The bartender(s) are friendly and welcoming.
I prefer this spot over some of the louder counterparts in the areaHelpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 157148467Feb 20, 2017Updated review
If you need a cool, laid back spot to grab a drink(and play Jenga or Trouble)--this is it! It's dark and intimate with only wine. I'm not a beer drinker but they have a great variety of different brews. The wines by glass isn't a big variety but you can tell care was used in selecting them ..they are great! The manager mentioned wanting to obtain a liquor license to sell cocktails. This place will truly rock when that happens!

Went to The Room on a Saturday evening with my girlfriend. The Room does not have food, we just had a few craft beers.
Quality
The Room has a large assortment of beers so its more up to you to make a quality decision than anyone else. They also do have some wine, but it definitely gives a much more beer vibe.
Quantity
Hard to find any complaints about the pour of a beer, especially when they are coming out of a bottle or can.
Value
So the beers are a bit expensive, but it is to be expected when they are higher quality craft beers.
Ambiance
Dark. The first thing you notice with The Room is that it is very dark as it is lit only by small candles strewn throughout the small space. However, it sets up for an amazing romantic and intimate feel. There was incense burning to make the space smell wonderful and there was rock music being played lightly in the background. Honestly after a few minutes in the bar I remarked that it is probably the best place for a date as there are no distractions from the other person, except maybe some of the board games. There is just something about that space that is wonderful and cozy. This place is a dive bar in the best sense as it has a great concept and executes it perfectly.
Crowd
There was a small crowd, just enough people to keep the place full, but not packed. I assume it would never be packed, but instead always have a set of regulars that get the same vibe I got from the bar.
Service
The bartender was awesome and had a wonderful command of the menu. He clearly loved beer and loved talking about different tastes. He also did not hide behind the bar as he rotated around making sure everyones glasses stayed full.
Parking
The Room is located towards the southern end of Miami Beach so you can rely on there being street parking in the area. Late at night it does get packed and if you get frustrated there are plenty of valets in the area.
Extra
The Room is definitely not a bar for everyone as it is essentially a dark room with beer, but it is a bar that is exactly what I look for. Lots of good beer and very good vibes. It is a great place for a date when you are really looking to get to know each other better. Plus some fun board games if you really need something to keep you entertained.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Laura G.Miami, FL395191469Sep 27, 2015
This is the spot. A hidden little gem :) I went for the first time with a few friends on a Friday night. I will be back and it's a great little spot for an intimate pre-game or to catch up with a friend.
They have an excellent beer selection, not too large, but they know good beer. The prices aren't ideal; yet they aren't too pricey. They do have a happy hour on draft beers.
Check it out, but only tell your best friends!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 19, 2015
I LOVED this place! So cozy intimate great music and the mgr/my bartender was the bomb! I only wish they had a happy hour that serves the wine drinkers not just beer drinkers (which I do not drink) and that they opened earlier than 7pm..
I would spend almost every happy hour here in that case! Good wine selection but EXCELLENT beer selection
Loved it!!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Patrick L.Miramar, FL979864365Dec 20, 2010Updated review
I was just here for the Room's anniversary party......I believe it's the 7th anniversary as I want to say this place opened in 2003, but I could be wrong.
When it's on, it's on - there's no other place exactly like it in Miami. With the candles, indie music, and unpretentiously fashionable crowd, it can resonate with an energy I haven't found elsewhere. I think I've figured out exactly why this is.....first of all, this is the most simple, sexy, no-frills bar around, rivaled only by the DRB. There's no TV. There are no pool tables. There's a bar and a few tables and chairs. That's it....so human interaction is the only activity you can possibly engage in here.
Also, it's dark and tiny. There are lights above the bar, but they are just for show, as this place is lit by candlelight for all practical purposes. You walk by outside, and you see this mysterious dark little place with a few candles burning and a crowd of vague human forms. It looks like a speakeasy; it looks and feels illicit. It's off the South Beach tourist trail, so the only people who are going to find it are locals and curious wanderers. As such, even though it's a friendly bar and is open to everyone, it maintains this sense of exclusivity - you walk inside and a for a brief moment you almost feel as if you're crashing a random house party.
I will say that in my opinion, the music isn't what it used to be. The house iPod could use some refreshing and updating. Sure, the music is still better than that of 95% of the bars around, but this is the Room, the Room can't rest on its laurels. There was a time when, quite seriously, I'd come here not for the people nor even for the beer, but for the music. I found out about Asobi Seksu here years ago, for example. OK, I'm an oddball, I know that.....but hey, I can't be the only one.
Oh, and here's a little tip for the guys.....if you take a woman here on a date, order a corked-and-caged 750ml bottle of Saison Dupont (or, alternatively, the Foret Organic Saison, also from the Brasserie Dupont), and split it with her. Don't ask questions, just do it. Both are refreshing golden beers indigenous to the Belgian countryside, full of earthy-spicy-yeasty character (some might even say "terroir" as these beers express a sense of place), strong enough at 6-7% to loosen you up, yet at the same time light enough to leave you lucid and coherent. I would dare say that the saison/farmhouse ale style is the perfect sexy Miami beer style, yet even now, few are aware of it.
And no, I haven't pulled this card myself in a long while. Geez. You all are so cynical and accusatory! ;)Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 18Oh no 0Feb 23, 2010Previous reviewI've been going to The Room almost since it opened seven years ago. The name of this bar is indeed truth in advertising, as it is simply a very dark hole in the wall with an unrefined concrete floor. Quite off the beaten South Beach track down in the South of Fifth neighborhood, this bar attracts in-the-know locals and intrepid out-of-towners who are willing to wander beyond Lincoln and Ocean a little. It certainly would inspire curiosity as you walk past it, this dark little place with strategically-placed candles.
The atmosphere whispers "New York." If you want a more Miami atmosphere, go to Zeke's. The bartenders are all very cool - treat them well and they will take care of you. Don't be a pompous jackass, that typical South Beach attitude is frowned upon. Music provided by iPod, and let me say that I would love to sync up with The Room's iPod. Whenever I go, I always have to Shazam at least one song playing in an attempt to figure out what it is. Expect Radiohead, the Cure, Joy Division, Band of Horses....always great music.
The beer list is somewhat extensive, providing an overview of the heavy hitters from the major beer-producing countries - US, Belgium, Germany, UK, Canada. Back when this place first opened, the list seemed huge. It has since been superseded several times over by other local bars, but everything on the list is quality. You don't come here for 400 beers, or an ultra-rare tap list...though they will pull out a surprise every now and again. They have had oddities like Terrapin's Oak-Aged Big Hoppy Monster, Dogfish Head's Punkin' Ale, and currently, Cigar City Brewing's Jai-Alai IPA.
Currently on the menu, I recommend: Aventinus Weizenbock, Dupont Foret Organic Saison, Saison Dupont, Cigar City Jai Alai IPA, Avery White Rascal, Victory Prima Pils.
The intangibles help make this place what it is. It tends to be a friendly local bar, which is pretty rare around here. You can come in a group, with a date, or you can even come alone, it's no big deal. In fact, I often prefer coming here alone. You never know what new friends or acquaintances you might meet, what conversations you might find yourself in. Again, this is rare for Miami, this doesn't happen at all the standard meet-market type places.
I love this bar. The only thing that keeps it from being 5 stars in my book is the unfortunate fact that many of its patrons seem to love smoking. It really derails your enjoyment of an Aventinus or a St. Bernardus Abt 12, when you are surrounded by chain-smokers. - Oct 15, 2009
This place gets a strong 4 stars from me. It's very cool inside - dark and industrial looking. On the Saturday night I was here with a dozen or so fellow yelpers, the place really wasn't busy - maybe 2 tables full of people and 3 or 4 at the bar, but I've heard it can get very full on the weekends.
The Room isn't very large and doesn't have a full bar (beer and wine only), but it does have plenty of character (I was a big fan of the high, semi-circular tables they had for the booths against the wall...Very industrial looking with a piece of threaded pipe bolted to the lower part of the table to be used as a foot rest).
Do know that, while this may be a great place for beer and wine lovers to come and try some unique specialty beers and wines, this isn't a cheap place to come and drink every weekend (average beer was about $8, with some as high as $10 or $12 each). However, if you're looking for a cool place to bring a date or to just come, chill, hang out and try some different brews while listening to a good mix of music, this is the bar for you!Helpful 10Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Maria A.Miami, FL20737801332Nov 5, 2009Updated review
The Room will always be a standard but it's not as great as I once remember. Maybe in comparison to some of the latest bars ir seems ok but not the spectacular place that it once was.
I went recently and there was no amazing music and it seemed tinged with an odd melancholy which had never before graced this little bar.
I would still come by and bring friends but I've lost that lovin' feeling.
Why the four stars? It's still hard to find simple bars in Miami so I'm still supporting it!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Dec 24, 2008Previous reviewThis place never lets me down.
Recently I had a few friends from San Fran including the always stellar supernova that is Ligaya T come into town for a quick one night stay before heading to clearer Carib waters. And so I took the Yelp crew to The Room. The cool guy and I were right to think of bringing them here. It was our second stop but it was great.
We walked in around 1 am on a weeknight and the place was crowded. Thankfully, some chairs opened up at the bar and we took over a small section. The conversation seemed to keep flowing as easily as the drinks. This is why this place is so great, yes, it's a little louder than it needs to be but it's just intimate enough. And it's perfectly lit, adding to the cozy atmosphere.
Nice for a late night rendezvous.Jun 20, 2008Previous reviewEveryone talks about their favorite hole in the wall bars but few of these bars have the following of SOBE's The Room. The complete opposite of everything South Beach is known for The Room is small, intimate, has no velvet rope, and no dress code. It does however, get crowded so I guess not the total opposite but eh close enough.
This isn't the type of place where you start the night instead it's the kind of place that you end up at sooner or later when you adhere to the "let the night take you were it may" philosophy.
And they're always glad you came. (ok that's a line from the Cheers theme song, an oldie, but a goodie still) Yes the staff is always cool but you'll also be glad you came to The Room.
And as you slowly make your way to the bar and notice their wide selection of beers and wines you'll be even happier. While many stick to the well known Stella Artois, I say live a little and choose the craziest sounding beer out there. - Jul 9, 2012
I think I'm going to get hung for this review, but between 3 and 4 stars I just couldn't bring myself to give The Room 4 since I guess it fell short of what I expected it to be after reading all the rave reviews.
We came here on a Friday night, and expected it to be bustling but at 11pm it was pretty dead still. The bartender was very friendly and she often asked us to try the drinks that we were going to get before we got it which was a nice touch. However, their wine selection is poor. They only have a few wines (maybe less than 7?) of each kind white / red and ... they really weren't that great.
Beer, on the other hand, they definitely had a huge selection of. However, it was VERY pricey. They were selling some bottle I can get at Whole Foods for $7 for $28! Incredible mark up.
Their stuff on tap was also ok, they had a small selection on tap and it wasn't anything to get goggly over. I definitely thought Abraxas was better.
This is very chill and very intimate and VERY dark though so ... I guess great for first dates?Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
