Perfect local pub to get a beer on tap. Love the ladies who work here! My hubby and I were regulars while living in Astoria and this pub was our favorite place to go to. The outdoors is great during warm summer nights. We miss those nights and think of visiting only to seat outside and have a cold Carlsberg!

This Irish bar is the closest thing tin Astoria that resembles the TV series Cheers in Character/atmosphere. So let's start by saying; originally I used to come by here and found the bar intimidating as people were entering and exiting out of a boarded-up public house, often with no masks. So last week I decided to take the plunge and pay them a visit Inside you find a very comfy bar with a heavy number of locals/regulars up at the bar. There are no vaccine checks, so I hung out in the lounge area towards the rear entrance. I ordered a cider and requested a burger, but it appears they don't serve food. That's okay. When I finished my cider, I headed back outside and spoke with the owner for a while, who is a very nice woman and we compared eateries and bars in Astoria, and best recommendations. 30th Avenue above Steinway St is full of Irish bars, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how friendly everyone was at the Quays. They are well worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood, and a great credit to the neighborhood.

Sometimes you just want to go where everybody knows your name.
The Quays is an incomparable neighborhood pub in Astoria, Queens, New York. My roommates took me here to celebrate my first night in NYC, and I was immediately hooked. On Sunday afternoons and you'll see kids running around and, win or lose, the Quays softball team will be celebrating with pizza and beer. On Thursday nights you'll see local musicians showcasing their work and friends gathered around to cheer them on. On every other night of the week, you'll step into a bar where you can strike up a genuine conversation with anyone.
This is a special place. Take a trip on over there - you'll see what I mean.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Peggy P.Howard Beach, NY68213475Apr 21, 2019
Good live bands at this relaxing neighborhood bar. Friendly crowd. We have been here before so I ordered wings outside and brought them with us.... no food served here. Good drinks made well.

All of the bartenders are beyond friendly. They hold the true value of an Irish Pub, they believe in buy backs, always accommodating with the TVs. On Memorial Day, the bartenders used their own mi eye to pay for the three memorial shots I bought for friends that I lost. The ambience is great. It's perfect if you want a quiet place to hang out or if you want to jam to music with friends.

Gonna start off by saying that I totally wish I came here more often, I'm just rarely in the neighborhood :(.
Stumbled in here for my first time with my best friend because we needed to kill time as I waited to meet my sister when she was done with her friend's sweet sixteen-ing. The bartender asked me to "orgasm in Spanish and shout that he had a hole in his sock" - I wasn't drunk enough to do the 'hole in the sock part', but my faux arousement was pretty hilarious enough to warrant a few buybacks that DIDN'T include their automatic 3rd drink buybacks...so needless to say she and I had MANY drinks on the house and made sure I tipped well :).
My second time was with the same best friend and 2 guy friends. Fun times were had, lots of alcohol was consumed and LIVE Gaelic Folk music?! YES PLEASE! The vibe here that night was super awesome and another great time was had!
Third time was the last stop on an uber successful (at least I thought so) first date with a handsome Brit/Irish CT born (and bred) gentleman who ducked in here with me because a) I freakin' love the place b) they're so cheap it's easy to be a baller here c) it was POURING LIKE CRAZY and not too crowded. I love this place so much. We sat at one of the small round tables up front by the windows, talked, showed each other stuff on our phones, watched the rain and did whiskey shots - it was purrrrrfect.
Love how this bar can pretty much be anything you want to make it, no douchey clientele, just fun cool local folks looking to hang. Also, their (ALL THE TIME!!!) 3rd drink buyback policy is STELLAR and the bar staff are really cool - they'll even let you order food or bring it in from anywhere (since they're kitchen-less). If I lived closer to this place I would totally be a regular!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Ian R.Long Island City, NY291161Dec 15, 2006First to Review
The Quays is not only the best pub I've been into in Astoria, it is probably my favorite watering hole in the city.
The buy back policy is stupendous, you can't have more than 2 drinks without getting a freebie. Thursday night local bands play, Sunday night hosts one of the more entertaining open mic's I've ever witnessed. All the while the guinness flows like black gold from the taps.
If you live in the neighborhood, you neeeeed to make yourself a regular.... and if you are not from the neighborhood, you need to come on down.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 7, 2014
I've been sitting on my Quays review for a while and even though I love (and miss now that I'm out of Astoria) Quays, wasn't sure why I had always liked it. No need to go into fine detail about the highlights of the Quays:
-Cheap drinks/beer
-3rd drink is a buy back
-Always can catch a musical act
-Always has a good buzz, whether its a Sunday night or during a performance
And it dawned on me; I never have had a bad time here. Ever.
Whether this place is jammed or it's a slow night and just a few folks are at the bar, Quays always has a good vibe. There's not a bad bartender there. Drink prices are completely reasonable. Good for big groups, small groups. In my years in Astoria, I sorta grew to love Quays in the last year I lived here, but I definitely miss it now!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Chelsey P.New York, NY5587295Jul 8, 2014
Quays is a fun little casual Irish bar in a great neighborhood. The bartenders are funny and very nice. Good sense of humor. Decent beer selection. Good Irish whiskey selection too. Cozy decor and nice and breezy. Its located on a corner and they open the floor to ceiling windows so there is lots of fresh air! Beer is served in 20oz glasses!
Music is whatever is playing on the juke box and sometimes live music and open mic.
No food served here, but they encourage you to order in or bring in take out.
If you stop in for a beer you will likely stay for another, everyone there is very personable!
Also, the wall pads at the bottom of the stairs are hilarious!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sh G.Queens, NY497293456Nov 13, 2013
What's not to love about the Quays (pronounced Keys).
$2.50 Can PBR
$3.50 Coors Light Draft
$5.50 for premium or imported beer.
And on top of that they have buybacks.
I've been here just about everyday of the week and no matter what day you come there's usually a decent crowd. Thursday are open mic nights and you see some really good singers and performers. Many of them make their rounds to all the Astoria bars with open mic nights. The Guinness here is amazing, and off the top of my head I can also tell you they have Coors Light, Stella, Blue Moon, Smithwicks, and a bunch more. They have about 12 beers on tap. The Quays has many loyal regulars who frequent this bar and they all love of for the same reason, cheap drinks, cool atmosphere and knowing this place is an all around good time.
They don't have a kitchen so there is no food but they openly welcome people bringing food inside.
If someone were to ask me what I did the Summer of '13 I would just say two words...The Quays.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
