Stopped in on a whim for a bowl of gumbo. Ours came in a platter size bowl with a cup of long grain rice and we added some extra shrimp on the top-$3.00 extra for 4. It wasn't needed. It comes just steamed not grilled or blackened.
Anyway, Miss Lady Chef can give anyone in Seattle cooking New Orleans food a run for their money. The rue was on point. I can't even explain the flavor without salivating. Pavlov hold onto your doggie.
I compared her flavor of the gumbo to the best plate of food I ate at B. Smith's, Washington D.C.'s Swamp Soup. I chowed down so fast I'm not sure if I saw or ate any okra. Â The salt content was mild so it allowed all the flavors to shine and not to mention the color. The darker the better. That it was.
In addition we ordered a slice of fried fish. $3.00 a slice. I could have brought the whole fish. Crispy and seasoned well. The cod was flaky and fresh. Puts some fish fry to shame.
The little house with the sweetest tea ever, this side of the Mason Dixon line.

This restaurant is such an unexpected gem in Auburn and I'm so glad I stumbled upon it thanks to Yelp! We had trouble finding it initially because it looks like a house and isn't in a plaza of any sort, so make sure you're paying close attention to your map!
The atmosphere was so warm and inviting. It's just like a house--you step into the porch area which has plenty of seating for waiting to get seated, and then you step into the doorway which has a stairway and 'House rules' (so cute!), and then you get seated in the restaurant which feels just like a dining room.
The menu was perfect--not too big/overwhelming, but also had plenty of selection. Everything sounded so good that we wanted to try it all! It was cash only though, so we had to narrow it down to try several dishes. My thoughts on what we ordered:
Jambalaya: wow, this brought the heat! It was perfect for my boyfriend, but I can't handle spice very well. I kept eating it though because the spice and flavors were incredible, I was crying because of the spice and because it's just so good! I do think the rice was a little undercooked and the cornbread was a tad bit dry, but overall I enjoyed this dish.
Shrimp scampi: this was so delicious. I loved the buttery shrimp and it was packed with fragrant garlic that added so much flavor. The pasta could have been more al dente but it wasn't overcooked, and seeing as this place does not specialize in pasta, I can overlook this slight detail. This was the mystery dish for Thursday's special, and I really hope they bring it back!
Sauteed shrimp po' boy: I just love how they do shrimp here, this sandwich has the same garlicky shrimp that I love so much in their other dishes! The sauteed peppers and molasses bun complemented each other so well.
Mac Attack (mac & cheese w/shrimp & bacon): creamy and delicious. Their recipe is perfection, I would totally order this again.
Peach cobbler cupcake: homemade fresh daily with fresh peaches! I could taste the quality and it was divine. I want to try the apple and strawberry ones next!
Sweet tea: so good, what's not to love about sweet tea with all the refills?
The service here was excellent. I didn't catch our server's name, but she provided top notch recommendations and was extremely helpful and so friendly during our visit! She kept coming back to refill our drinks and take away plates which is something that most restaurants can't seem to bother with. A++++++
Overall, I'm impressed with the standout flavor of their dishes and their awesome service. Although their dishes are on the pricier side given their portions, you get what you pay for! Can't wait to be back! - 27453164442/8/2018
I came to The Quarters with my son few months ago.
Service boy was super nice and comfortable place and easy to park car here.
First checked Yelp and review was a very good.
So decided to eat a late lunch. There are only 2 other customers that time.
We ordered
Vegetarian Soul Platter
Savory Red-beans-Rice, Momma's Yams, Collard Greens, 8 Cheese Mac-n-Cheese and Cornbread.
It was no taste and I have to added salt & pepper but ???
I was not happy this meal at all. I left more than half. Usually I'm a big eater.
And my son ordered Gumbo. He said delicious.
I didn't tasted his food bcz I was so disappointed my food. I should eat like a Southern fried chicken....

I first tried this place out when they were in Kent. Since they moved to Auburn I been back many times. Date with husband, child home from college or hanging with my sisterhood. Each visit has allowed me to try different things on the menu.
Yesterday we had the PO-Boy and Mardi Gras salad
O and the sweet tea. Great choice - 27231211071/7/2018
I came here for brunch on a Saturday morning - $20 set menu is the only thing that's offered, but they do consider allergies and provide substitutions if needed. The menu includes bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, chicken and waffles, grits, etc. and a mimosa! It's definitely plenty of food - more than I could finish, and had to pack some to go.
The food is pretty good - and definitely tastes like a home cooked meal. The chicken and waffles was my favorite of the things offered for brunch. The chicken was seasoned and juicy, and the waffles were a good balance of crispy and chew - how I like it!
The restaurant itself is cute! It's a house turned into restaurant, but still felt like a home. Service was also friendly, made me think of good "southern hospitality" :) Overall, I appreciated the uniqueness of this place, as there isn't any place like it in Seattle.
Though I loved having the variety of brunch (it actually reminded me of a plate of breakfast buffet! hehe) and enjoyed the experience, I wouldn't want the brunch set menu again. I'd be back for dinner to get an actual order of chicken and waffles or try another entree though. - 67233735610/6/2017Updated review
Today I went to the quarters and had a great time. The building itself is so cute and has almost a plantation main house vibe to it on the inside. It's a beautiful old house made into a restaurant.
Jade is one of the owners, along with her daughter who is a server and GM. I LOVE family owned restaurants and my favorite is the fact that it's family owned and they're BLACK beautiful naturalistas.
As for my food: I ordered a sweet tea, and the Friday special Oxtails and grits. The sweet tea was better than McDonald's and it came in. Cute little mason jar along with my water. My oxtails and grits were HUGE. It's not like the Jamaican oxtails I'm use to in Florida. This is more of Mommy's cooking at home. Like a stew and gritz. It had just enough spice, and was seasoned to perfection. The only thing I will ask not to put on it next time is the chives. Besides that it was ten stars and I highly recommend.
My favorite part of the visit was meeting jade. I have never met someone so kind and relatable. She is very personable and talks to each table like they are her old friends. I am so glad I got to come back to the quarters and will be bringing my boyfriend next time too! He is going to love this place. Also bring cash as they are a cash only establishment .3/20/2017Previous reviewOnly giving one star because yelp won't let me rate zero. I went to this restaurant with my boyfriend to celebrate. I have had my eye on this place since I moved here in June. The sad thing is I didn't even get to eat here because yelp and google said they were open and I walked up to the door and it said "sold out". Whatever that means. I went back to my car and called the restaurant to see what there hours were and no one answered. While googling other places to eat in auburn my boyfriend looked over and saw someone on the phone standing st the host stand. I think this is super rude cause I was just standing at the door. At least someone could have came to the door to let me know they were closed. And to not answer the phone makes me think someone was watching me call in and decided not to answer. I will not be back. Which sucks cause I have heard such great things about the food. Too had you guys don't know how to run a business. You just lost my money and anyone else I know and can tell.

Owners are extremely friendly but not the type to bother you while you're eating.
Staff is just as nice and attentive.
***********Cash Only*************
Place is clean with spotless restrooms and plenty of supplies in the women's.
I had the strip and grits, lunch portion. Was still too much for me to eat so I can't imagine what the dinner portion is. There was good flavor and the grits we're done well. Plus it was nice and cheesy... Yes! Â
Also placed an order to go ...
Gumbo... Spicy!
Do yourself a favor and don't order this to go. They put the rice on top of the gumbo so it ended up being jumbalaya. The rice was harder than I'm a fan of and didn't taste fresh. Super disappointed. BTW... I tasted it before I left the establishment.
Cornbread was a tiny little piece and I think it had cinnamon in it and it was dry. - 451828193/11/2018
Cozy little place. Don't let the outside fool you. Â Family style atmosphere. Friendly people. Food is good. Went there for Sunday brunch, so we didn't get to try Jambalaya, Shrimp and Grits and Oxtails and Grit. Â The brunch is not bad, but it is not something I would want to try again since the selection is limited. It is almost like a sampler appetizer. Â
Overall this is not bad. Definitely will go back for dinner n st time. Oh...cash only. They have a cash machine inside. - 1854849276/2/2017
I cannot say enough positive things about this place. They're so welcoming and kind that it makes you feel like you're having a meal with family. Needless to say, the service was outstanding.
The food was beyond incredible. I felt like I'd never experienced such unique and delicious flavor. I'm so happy we gave this place a try and I cannot wait to go back.
If there is anything in this world you need to try it is their sweet potato cobbler. It will knock your socks off. I was actually angry once it was gone lol
